Sheyenne, I'm not sure what you mean by baby soothers, but through 3 other babies I have found that the less you buy, the better! Each baby is different of course but my advice is just to wait to spend until after you have the baby and you see what "kind" of baby you have.
For instance my must-haves in the first few months are: diapers/wipes (I use the hospital diaper bag - it's free), clothes, car seat, some kind of bouncy seat to put baby in, large floor blanket, burp cloths, swaddling blankets, boppy for breastfeeding/holding baby's weight while close to me, a Moby wrap, and a few toys (like a jungle gym for baby to lay under, a mirror, a nice grasping/teething toy).
