Why rush him? Chances are he'll pick it up within the next month : ] I know it's exciting to see them walk for the first time but once they start, they don't look back!

Kuziva is 14months now and for the past 2 months he was standing and sometimes walking on the bed. i didnt get it for i thought it must be harder to balance on the bed than the floor. Recently i took him to my mum's house for the holiday along with my nieces and nephews. i guess he realised it was easier to walk or that it was faster to get up and walk, so he seems to be taking steps on his own and holding on to things.. Be patient when he is ready he will just pick it up. My first son never even took the baby steps or stood on his own, but one day he just got up and started walking, it was such a sight for someone who just spent his time sitting.... hang in there!

I know this is cliche but, every baby is different! We were so worried about my son - he is not even crawling yet. He just started physical therapy 1 1/2 months ago and is just starting to stand. Communicate well with your baby's doctor and if he is worried, then action should be taken. In my state (Virginia) you qualify for Early Intervention only if there is at least a 25% delay. 13 months is the average age for walking. He will start when he is ready!

My eldest son walked at 17 months, my daughter at 14 months and my youngest son at 10 months! All babies are different! There is nothing you can do to get him to walk earlier than when he is ready! My babies were all bought up in the same environment and yet they have such variations, just goes to show that they are all unique and reach milestones in their own time!

Before you know it he will be running around everywhere and you will wish he would just sit still, LOL!!!

I'm glad that you asked the question too because I thought our son was the only 13 mth old that wasn't walking. My mother was doing the pressuring thing too saying "you know he should be walking at least a month after he makes one." I told her off in a calm way because it was pissing me off. My husband re-assured me that he will walk in his own time. Our son walks all over the house holding on to things, so its just a matter of time and patience. Dont let anyone make you feel less of mom by putting their expectations on you or your son.

He will walk when he is ready dont try and make him. All babies are different and learn different things at different ages.

I didn't walk until i was nearly 2.... but i was talking at 10 months!! :P Lo is the same, i've seen him take steps, he's more than competant, just not too confident. They're beautiful creatures and they should be nurtured with gentle guidance, don't stress or Lo will pick up on it and be less likely to do something new/that takes effort. Lot's of praise every lil step and stay happy :)

I kind of feel you should push him too much. He'll do it when he's ready and when he eventually does you'll probably wish he wasn't haha. =)

I have been worried about my 13 month old too. i called Birth to 3 and she qualified for physical therapy services because it turned out that she has low muscle tone. Nothing serious, she just needed some exercises. I am sure these little ones will both be on their way soon. I agree with previous posts that they al walk in their own time. One of my twins walked at 16 months and the other at 22 months and they went from walking to running very fast and now that they are 4 there is no stopping them, LOL!!

The walking milestone isn't until 15 months. My son is 13 months and not walking either. No need to rush him, he will get there.

Probably nothing to worry about. They all develop at different stages. My son was about 21 months old when he finally started walking. And now he's 3 and absolutely normal. Try not to compare your kid with others. He was checked around 20 months to make sure there was nothing wrong with him physically and we were just given some exercises to do for him, with lots of perseverance & encouragement and that seemed to do the trick.

My daughter is the same way she is 13 months and she will take a few step or stand up some time by her self but won't walk... Don't worry he will do it when he is ready cause the doctor said my little one was fine so i'm sure yours is too.

Dont rush it!!! He will start when he is ready. He probably already has and you just haven't caught him yet. Babies are very smart they no when we are extra excited about the next big step they love keeping us on our toes!!! Unfortunately my little one who is also 13 months started walking when she was 8 months old and it nearly scared me to death because she was so little and she had cousins a few months older than her and she was always trying to follow them around but now she is in her on little playful world!!!

I have twins who have been walking since they were 10months! Trust me, dont rush it! haha they can get into alot more once they can walk... and they can get away from you much faster too! babies will do things when they are ready, no sense in pushing them, it might discourage them. just tell them how great they are everyday and support them!

My son walked just before he turned one but my mom says that I didn't walk on my own until I was 17 months! Whatever's comfortable for your little one - don't rush it. My little guy is running sometimes now and some days I long for the time he didn't move at all! :)

Don't worry about pushing him to walk! My son is 14 months today and he's just now starting to take a few steps between his dad and I. He would much rather crawl because he can get around quicker that way & that's what he's comfortable with!

The normal range for walking is quite big, up to 18 months. So just give him time. When he can, he will.

my 13 month old son has taken a few steps here and there but just doesnt really want to walk haha. I figure he will just get to it when he is ready for it. Im definately not rushing him as Im not looking forward to a whole nother stage of bumped heads and bruises from falling over and running into things! He gets around just fine with his crawling and cruising. He has 9 teeth already! And far out- he can bite soooo hard!

My 13 month daughter only started walking on her own in the last couple weeks. Now that she's figured it out there is no keeping her down! As soon as she falls down she is right back up. She also just finally had her first tooth break through!

My son just picked up walking two weeks ago. I was worried, too, but he did it all on his own. If your son is cruising around the furniture and walking assisted with your hand/toy, then don't worry! He'll be getting it soon!
