My baby was born on October 29, 2009. He had is his six month appt. today (two weeks after it was originally scheduled because we were out of town). The doctor seemed concerned about his weight (19.6lbs) and I mentioned that we were two weeks late coming in and he was actually six and half months old - 28 weeks old. The doctor proceeded to tell me that my baby was fine then, since he was 7 months old. But, just because he's 28 weeks doesn't make him seven months old - he won't be 7 months old until May 29!! Am I right? Pregnancy (fetal) age is based on the 4 weeks lunar calendar but age after birth is not!
So is he six and a half months old or seven months old? Because, well, I'm totally confused now.
Besides that, there was concern that my baby isn't crawling yet, since he is "7" months old... My response was, "Oh well - that's his bad then /sarcasm. He's a baby - he grows and learns and does things at his own pace and I know very FEW babies his age (born the same month as him) who are crawling and starting to stand up on their own. He has every opportunity, he is healthy, he eats about 40oz milk a day (which is on target with how much he should take in based on his weight) and a stage one fruit before his second morning bottle and a stage one veg before his evening bottle. What do you want me to do? Geez..."
Do any of you moms of October babies have any opinions about this? I have no problem with our pediatrician - I actually love him to death. But I disagree completely with his assessment today. Just looking for other opinions.
