My son keeps taking off his diaper either right after going poo or right before (resulting in a big mess) He wont keep pants on either... I'm wondering if this is his way of telling us hes ready to start potty training? He isnt walking yet but it'll be any day as hes taken a step but then sat down... Everyone keeps saying duct tape his diaper on... To me that just seems wrong... I'm wondering if anyone has had this happen before and what they did to keep the diapers on.. I've been looking into getting diaper covers but dont want to waste the money if they wont help...

Chelle, one of my favourite stories i hear from my mum is of when I was a baby. I have an older sister who use to have her potty in the laundry which was off from the kitchen of our house. I was 7 and a half months old and mum has told me that no matter what she did she couldn't get me to keep my nappy on. I was always making my way over to the potty and climbing up on it. AFTER I TOOK MY NAPPY OFF and left it where ever it fell. Mymother said there was no point in trying to stop me, so after awhile she gave up. My advise would be to give up trying. start training your son. I have started training my boy. My mum tells me that it didn't take long for m because I hated nappies, i was only 9 months old when i stopped wearing them during the day. Mum would make me wear them at night though. But by the time my little sister came along mum discovered pullups for bedtime. My mum had 4 kids and other then my oldest sister the rest of us were trained before we were 15 months old. we had help from a big sister. but she was trained by the time she was 2. My mum says that children know when they are ready and if the signs are there run with them. Good luck. Nerrissa

This happens! my son has done it a few times this summer. I have learned to just keep a onesie on him. He can't unsnap the buttons, therefore he can't get the diaper off!

Put the diaper on backwards so the tabs are on the back instead of the front.

keep overalls and onsies on him. My youngest daughter started doing this right about 9 months old and after cleaningup her and the crib about 3times I decided to keep her in a onsie. I know this is difficult when you have a larger child, but the childrens place makes onsies up to about 24 monts and I think you can get them up to 36 months (or a 3t) a babies r us.

My daughter did the same thing and I woke up to poop EVERYWHERE ....So i put overhauls on her for about three weeks straight and she barely does it now and when she does I tell her NO and she stops (shes 10 months) . She understands what I am saying. She doesnt pull at her diaper for about another 4 to 5 hours and then I just tell her NO again. I just make sure she has pants or shorts on that she can't pull of easily.

We've decided to start trying to potty training, he has been giving us signs we just didnt see... He pats his diaper every time he pees or tries to "push" it away from his skin so we'll see how it goes :D If it doesnt work however we are going to try and put big boy underwear over the diapers.. Hopefully with them being a little tighter then pants they'll stay on better! Thanks for all the advice!!

every morning my boy has his diaper off, thank goodness he is not a morning pooper, but he has peed a couple of times, he takes it off other times occaisionally, I am glad to hear I am not the only one this is happening to because my daughter never did this, I think I might try the diaper covers, I have also considered the "goodnights" they work like a pull up or swimmer and don't have the velcro bands. My parents used to use duct tape for my sister, she took hers off every chance she got. It didn't hurt her, I would think it would be a pain to get it undone, if you tear a wet diaper open it is messy with the filling.
