My Baby is 11wks, and seems to like watching the TV. I cant help but feel guilty when I see her little face staring at the TV. I only let her watch for maybe an hour or less a day just to give me a little break. She still gets lots of attention and playtime with her toys. Does this make me a bad parent? And could this slow her development?

no way..you are not a bad parent :) everyone loves tv!! unfortuneatly,,,

I am really disciplined here at home, and dont turn the tv on during the day, coz yes, my daughter is instantly drawn to it!! its like she goes into a little trance when she is around a tv, and i dont think it can be good for her brain development.., also, if you have ever watched the tv with the sound down, have you noticed how fast it all goes? I dont think that kind of hyperactivity is much fun! Your doing well to limit her time in front of the tv so thats cool :)

My little guy enjoys The Price in Right. I think it's just the bright colours, and sounds he enjoys.

My daughter is actually watching tv right now!!! It's just the flashy lights that they like. If you're worried about what she watched, they have baby videos out there that are good visual stimulant for your baby like baby einstein videos or my kids watch baby good sports

My daughter watches the tv too, I think they just like the colours and movement but my son never paid much attention when he was a baby. My son often watches his movies so it's hard to avoid my daughter seeing it too.

My 3 1/2 month old LOVES tv too! I put it on the cartoon channel and she is mesmerized by the lights and sounds. I don't see anything wrong with them watching a little tv as long as they're not there all day long.

My son LOVES TV also, and he's 12 weeks old. It doesn't make you a bad parent...it's not like they really know what they're watching. My son likes watching my husband play boxing on the Wii also...i think it has something to do with the colors and movement

my son loves tv now too. a little too much. if its on and you block his view he cries! i know its bad and i try to keep it off as much as possible but he loves the colors and the voices help him learn to talk so its not all bad. i think its actually good in moderation. but its really important that you read books, talk to, and play with them everyday as well. they need really communication to build social skills. and so far my son is ahead in his development and is very healthy in mind and body.

My son just turned 3mo yesterday. I will put him in his baby einstein activity mat, and I will find him turning his head toward the tv. He loves Baby Einstein videos. I try not to let him watch too much. He have found that he will watch the Price is Right. I would say he only watches maybe an hour of tv a day. It's just another form of visual and auditory stimulation. I do a lot of tactile stimulation too. You're not a bad parent for wanting what's best for your child. Just know that too much of anything is a bad thing.

I'm totally on the opposite side of the boat when it comes to tv watching.. now this is just my opinion.. We don't allow our daughter to face the tv at all.. we have done this with all our children. My sister who allowed her child to watch tv from a very young age had some issues with speech and what now.. Now this may not be the case for every child but I just figure why take the risk.. This has worked for all my kids so why change..
I am not saying anyone is a bad mother for allowing TV watching :) it's an opinion and everyone has different ones

It's okay in short doses. They really have no idea what they're looking at. To them it's just a series of different movements, bright lights and contrasting colors. We somtimes will put the visualizers from Windows Media Player/iTunes on the TV while we have music playing for the exact same reason. It's incredibly fascinating to our daughter and gives us a chance to clean, cook dinner or do laundry while we sing to her.

They just like the movement and light from the tv. sometimes if my little girl can hear the tv and she isn't "watching" it she cries. you turn her around to see it and she stops and stares. and no you are not a bad parent. my daughter will watch the food network the longest :)

Hi. My daughter loved tv too. She wouldn't settle back to sleep after her night feeds so we would stick her in the bouncer put on HI 5 dvd's and go back to bed. She would then watch and fall asleep. We needed to sleep too and nothing else worked. Whatever works for you is great.

My son loves loves loves Baby Einstein, when I need to get him on something so I can do what I need to do, it is a life saver. I wouldn't think it would be bad parenting as long as they are learning something! ;)
TOO MUCH T.V. is never good though.

The fact that you feel guilty means that your a good mommy!,,,your worried about your little girls well being,...you obviously are aware that too much tv isnt going to benefit her, but a little stimulation, I believe is great! my Daughter is 10 weeks and loves her baby Einstien Dvd's, and backyardagans, its the colours and the music that they like!!

I'm not sure about whether it will slow her development, but my 12 week old son does it too! I think it is just the colours and bright lights that attracts them!

Try and get them to watch shows that are 'slow moving' and focus on peoples faces like cooking shows or kids shows and avoid the faced paced shows that have a lot of movement between scenes and flashes on the screen. There have been some links between ADHD and TV so too much could be bad.
In saying all that, my baby loves TV too and a little bit of kids shows or somethign similar doesnt hurt them at all.
I watched a lot of Sex and the City while pregnant and my baby just loves the music at the intro to that show. I put him in his bouncer facing away from the TV when i watch it and the ladies voices seem to calm him, i suppose because they're so familiar.

My daughter watches the television when she is on my lap sometimes...i feel guilty about it as well...they are attracted to the lights and sounds...it doesnt make you a bad parent...as long as you are doing developmental excercises with the child it wont slow development.

Both my babies loved staring at the television, and now my eldest child is always singing to the telly, babbling at it dancing in front of it and even when she took her first steps it was towards the television!!!! haha!!! it doesnt stop her playing with her toys and she is extremelly lively and chatty, so when i see my son taking an interest in the telly now im not really that worried!

My son loves Baby Einstein movies. I put him in his bouncy chair, and put on his movie. It gives me 20 min to get some chores done.

Nah, It doesn't make you a bad parent. They don't realize what they're doing, they're just watching the movement. I put my son in front of the tv too! Anything to keep his attention for a little while!
