My DS is 17m & is showing NO signs of climbing outta the crib. He don't even climb onto the couch. How long do/did you keep your child in the crib? I know most parents say to move from crib to toddler bed when they start climbing out. But what if they don't show interest in climbing out.

I have twin 17 month old and I don' plan on changing them to beds any time soon. I am not a big believer in the toddler beds. My oldest son stayed in his crib till he was 2 1/2. He was happy and never tried to climb out, so we just made 1 transition....from crib to big bed. I plan on doing the same with my girls.
Do what you feel is right for your little one......Good luck

If they don't show any interest in climbing out then why switch just yet? He's content with still being in his crib. We will probably switch out youngest to a toddler bed when we move (he will be 23mths at that time) and I think that's a good age. Our oldest was about 18mths but he did really well and our middle son was about 14mths but we were about 2mths away from his little brother being born and I didn't want to make it too hard to switch him and I didn't want him to feel like he was giving up his crib for the baby! If there's no other reason to switch him I would wait until you feel that he is ready. I think 2 is a pretty good age though, they are old enough to understand that when they lay in their "big boy/girl bed" it's bedtime.

We put my son in a toddler bed when he was 16 months. He was not climbing out of the crib but we needed the crib for his baby sister. I kept telling him for about a week before we got his toddler bed that he was going to get a big boy bed. He was so excited when we finally got it and he helped us put it together. Hes been sleeping in it ever since and loves it!! I do put a gate up in front of his door or he gets up at nighttime wanting to come out and play. With the gate up he stays in bed. He has fallen out three times but we have pillows on the floor where he can fall out of. Good luck!

my 2 daughters are 2 and a half and 1 and a half, i put both of them in a bad when they were 1, they had cot beds so we put them in them. my first daughter was tying to climb out of the cot but my youngest didnt but thought we would try her, they fell out a couple of time but we put a quilt on the floor till they got used to it (no more falling out) and they love being in a bed!

I moved my daughter before she climbed out. My daughter hated her crib, and would not sleep in it. she would not even cry herself to sleep in it....so we moved her to a toddler bed at 15 months and she loves it!

I would not rush the issue. When he's ready you will know and he will try to climb. Once you get them into a toddler bed there comes more obstacle. My daughter was 17months when i put her into a toddler bed because she climbed out. She had no trouble with the transition. With my son who is 17months now is a climber and is into everything, but has shown no interest in climbing out of the crib. I know myself when i put him into a toddler bed he's not going to want to stay in it.

My twins are 17 months old. I switched their cribs into toddler beds about a month ago. The reason I did it so early was because my little boy was starting to climb out of his crib...so I went ahead and changed both his and his sisters cribs to toddler beds. Both my kids were great sleepers and so I didn't think it was going to be a difficult change. I watch a lot of Supernanny and try most of her techniques. My husband and I would take turns sitting at the end of their beds putting them back in every time they would get out. The first night it took about 1 hour for them to stay put, the second night 30 min. and now it only takes about 5 min. They are doing so good. They take two naps a day and sleep from 8:30 pm to 7:00 am (all in their toddler beds). So proud of my little babies!!

i started putting my step-son in a bed when he was 2 years old, he'd climb out of his crib every morning, and the change didn't bother him at all, he hasn't even fallen out of his bed, yett lol, he loves his bed more than his crib. and my Son who's only a year and a half still sleeps in his crib. he will let us know when he is ready.

My first (boy) went into a bed when he was 18 months old, he was simply too big for his cot, my 2nd (girl) went into her bed at 16 months old and did great, she was a very settled sleeper and not much of a climber so the move worked well for her, my 3rd (girl) is 17 months old and is a very restless/active sleeper, she still fits in the cot great and I have no intensions of moving her to a bed before she is 2yrs old and maybe older! All children are different, if your son isn't a climber, he may be ok to go into a bed still, as long as he can get in and out without hurting himself..... I never used a toddler bed, my kids went staight into King Single beds pushed to a wall on one side and a detatchable rail on the other!!!
