Getting top teeth before there is even any sign of bottom teeth!

thank you mommies for these posts..my 5 month old is showing signs of teething and its her top teeth, and this lady scared the hell out of me saying it is not proper!!well now i know my daughter's not the first to get the top teeth cut first!!

my son got his first tooth (top middle) 3 days before his birthday, and now has 5 top teeth at 1 week off 13 months! no bottom teeth though x

well my daughter is 10 month on 24th aug and she got 2 bottom teeth 2 week ago and then last week her two fang teeth came through before her two top teeth i thought it was really rare x

hi my little girl got her bottom front first, then 6 weeks later her canines, she looked like a little vampire, her top middle 2 have only just started to come in so its perfectly normal :)

my son was born with a lump on his gum he was born at 27weeks after about 4 weeks hes first tooth popped through the lump(when he was still in hospital)but they decided to take it oout as it was wobbly and they thort it was dangerous he is now nearly 11months and still hasnt had anymore teeth he dribbles alot but cant see or feel anything!! i was gettin quite worried until reading all these comments.im sure he will get something soon xx

Both my kids where the same , my son is 3 and has great teeth don't worry, as for the longer, it is only a problem if they come too soon(before 6 months)

My daughter's first tooth finally came through! It's her top right! Woooo. Still no sign of any bottom teeth. She'll be my little bunny rabbit :)

My son at 10mths has been drooling forever and there is no sign of any teeth. sometimes he drools like a faucet has been turned on and is very fussy, but nothing. It is not uncommon for the top ones to come first.

My daughter is 10 months and just got teeth 7 and 8, she went 2 at bottom the 4 top now 2 more for the bottom, Ive brushed her teeth since she was 5 months when she started getting them, as told by plunket. Not sure I beleave the healthy baby comment as she has never been sick, just think all babies are different some babies are born with teeth. We just think our girl wants steak haha. Also there is a website that has a teething timetable on it if your interested and it said babies can take up a year to get there first tooth especially premature babies.

There's really no way to tell how long...my daughters top gums were swollen for about a month before they came through. Her bottom ones came through quickly, but the top took awhile. She now has 8 teeth and 2 more coming in. Oi. Give him lots of different textured things to chew on, might help him out a bit. Good Luck! =)

All kids are different. All 3 of my boys got their bottom 2 in first but my younger 2 got their top 4 in at the same time, it wasn't the 2 middle ones then the 2 outside ones either. It started with the far left one and then they went straight across that way! My second son seemed to get his next 2 pretty quick after that but it's been about 2/3mths since my youngest has even had any sign of getting another tooth. My husband thinks he is starting to get another one on the top and still hasn't got his other bottom 2 in yet. All kids are different. I was very concerned with my second son because his started coming in that way and I ended up calling his pediatrician the next day and he said that everything is fine and not to worry.

my daughter is almost 10 months and doesn't have any signs of teeth coming in yet. my son got his first tooth when he was 8 months and is now 22 months and only has 10 teeth he hasn't got a new tooth in several months... it seems like it always took him months to cut just one tooth.

Every child is different Some takes longer than others. I don't think you should worry much but if you are speak with your doctor. My daughter is 10 months as well and she has 4 teeths on the bottom and 4 on top with 2 coming in at the bottom. She has been biting and chewing on everything in sight. I didnt see anything at first so i put my finger in her mouth to feel around i felt something but couldnt really since she bit the crap out of my finger :(

I have also heard that the longer they take the healthier they are. I worry about my daughters teeth because she has so many so early. Doctor said I don't need to brush her teeth until she is one, but I bought a baby brush for her and am going to start using it without toothpaste...I think just the motion of brushing will help her in the long run.

My daughter will be 10 months on the 16th. She has 8 teeth and her 9th and 10th are trying to make their way through. She first got her middle bottom two together, then the bottom two on the sides then the top middle two, then the top side ones. Now her 'fangs' are making their way through. Her top middle teeth didn't come in together....one came in then the other one took about 2 weeks more before it broke through. The gums were so swollen so I thought for sure it would happen earlier then it did. When your baby starts getting really miserable and drooling a lot, chewing on EVERYTHING then you'll know they're coming. It's not that uncommon for babies to get the top teeth first. My son is 9 1/2 months, & he still doesn't have any teeth, but a couple days ago, I could finally feel something a little sharp on his top gum. When I look, You can see where the front 4 want to come in. His bottom gum don't look like anything is coming in yet.

my son has just cut his 1st tooth at ten months old it is one of his top teeth. he didnt really teeth much and didnt complain once about it all i only noticed because one day he was hanging upside down off my knee and his mouth was wide open and i seen his tooth was about to cut through!!!

eep! my daughter had 8 teeth by the time she was 6 months!!! i hope they're okay later!!!

she did bottom 2 (at around 3.5 months), then top 2, then one either side of the top 2, then 7 and 8 were either side of the bottom 2. now she's cut her 2 bottom molars. one on either side. i thought she was 'due' for her 'eye' teeth, but i've given up trying to work out the 'correct' order. i only hope her teeth are okay later on, having got them all so close together and so early!

My daughter who is 3 now got 2 teeth on the bottom, then all 4 teeth on the top before she got any other bottom teeth. My son who is 10 months also cross cut. He got 1 middle bottom, then one next to it on the side, then the 2 middle top teeth, then the other 2 bottom teeth, then the 2 outside top teeth. He now has 8 teeth. There just doesn't seem to be one set rule to when they get all their teeth. Sometimes they just come in a funny order. They get them all eventually.

Yes Rachelle, I have also heard that the later the teeth come in the better by my friend who works in the dental field. I also have a 6 yr old who is losing teeth and she said it is better the later they loose their baby teeth.

I was also told that the longer teeth take to come in the more healthy they are.... has anyone heard that one?

It's not that common, but it happens. I had a friend who's daughter got top teeth firsth.

Each child is unique in how long they take. Some can even go in and out before setting to actually stay out. My daughter has 7 teeth and this last tooth went up and down before it finally has really started to break the surface and stay out.

My daughter has been drooling and teething for ages, with no sign of actual teeth, but I can see red bumps on the bottom of her top gums which look like they will break through soon. Nothing on her bottom gums yet.

My daughter is exactly the same! Nothing seems to be happening on her bottom gum but her top gum has been very swollen for about a week now and she's been licking her top gums and drooling heaps. I'll be interested to see what others have experienced too.
