Also, the cereal is a no no! They are not supposed to have that until 3 months old or more. I do not want to put anyone down, but I feel like its selfish to put the cereal in the bottle just so they will sleep longer, because it is dangerous to the baby. Once again, I am sorry to those of you who do that, I am not trying to offend anyone

about putting cereal in the bottles, my son was born on oct.1 and we started doing that last week. drs will tell you not to, but my mom did it with me and my brother, my grandma did it with her children, and so on and so forth. everyone turned out just fine. lol so if it helps you get in an extra hour or two of sleep at night, i say go for it.

i had my 4 week app yesterday, dr said he should eat 3-4oz every 4-5hrs

[deleted account]

My son was born October 8th, 2009 and he is eating 3 - 5 ounces every 3 - 4 hours. I asked my Doctor the same question and she said that babies only eat when they are hungry. They don't eat when they are bored or for comfort like adults do. You can't feed him too much because he won't eat when he's not hungry. If he is still hungry he will act fussy and root after you feed him. If this is the case after you feed him 4 ounces make him a 2 ounce bottle and see if he eats that, too. My Doctor said all Mothers ask this question. :)

My daughter was born october 17th. She weighed 10lb.s 4.8oz. She is eating 4 ounces every 3 hours. I don't know if this helps, but I hope so! Technically they are supposed to be eating an ounce every hour. I am sure you are doing fine! Right now he is in the 4-6 week growth spurt and you are supposed to be feeding on demand. If he is not grouchy or hungry, and he is gaining enough weight, your doing great! There's really nothing set in stone

Hello, my baby was born on Oct 8th, 2009 and weighted 6 pounds 9 ounces. He its every 3 hours during the day and he eats approx. 4 ounces, sometimes less than that onces in while he'll only drink 2 ounces. At night he drinks every 4-5hours sometimes more and usually drinks his full 4 ounces. He is now up to 9 pounds 8 ounce (he gained 3 pounds since we've been out of the hospital.) But every baby is different he'll let you know if he's still or not hungry anymore..

hi tiffany,
im glad to see your post. i had my baby boy on october 5th as well and he weighed 6lb 11.5oz. he is now on 6 ounce bottles and stage 2 cow and gate, feeding every 2-3 hours! at night he will often (very often) take maybe 3 ounces, sleep for around 10 minutes then wake looking fed again. he hasn't grasped the day/night thing yet. he hasn't been weighed in 2 weeks, but the last time he was he had gained just over 1lb in a week. this is my 4th child so im not one for following health visitors advice on feeding. i know he hasn't got colic or any pains, just really hungry.

My baby was born Oct 23. She weighed in at 8 lbs 10 oz and is now 9 lbs 14 oz. She eats the exact same amount as your child and the pediatrician said that the 4 oz or a bit more is exactly the amount a baby this far along should be eating. I think that your baby is fine =).

Quoting Amanda:

You might want to ask your doctor about putting cereal in the bottle because our pediatrician said not until after 3 months because otherwise food allergies would be more likely to occur. Just what we were told.

O WOW. I WAS THINKIN ABOUT TRYIN IT MYSELF AND NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THE RISKS. THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT.

This is about what my daughter is eating also and she iis almost a month old. She will not drink anymore when she is done. She purses her lips and she is pretty persistant. Her pediatrician told me that as long as she is gaining weight that she was eating enough. Her recommendation was about an ounce of weight per day so about 1/2 pound a week.

i had my baby on 10/7/09 he weighed 8lb 12oz, he eats 3 to 4 ounces every 3 hours during the day. at night about 10ish i give him 6oz and he will sleep for about 6hours then. my older 2 both had cereal in their bottles by 2 weeks old, they had spitting up issues, this baby is so different, he barely spits up!

multiply their weight by 2.5. Baby should have 2.5 ounces for every pound. So 8 pounds times 2.5 = 20ounces/day
if baby eats every 4 hrs that is 6 feedings , so3.33 ounces every meal.

Well I don't really know! My son was born on the same day as yours 10/5/09 he was 7lbs 140z and 20 inches long. Right now he is only drinkig 3 to 4 ounces every three hours like clock work. I tried to feed him more less often but he gets really fussy is I don't feed him the 3 ounced at the three hour mark. Sometimes at night h sleeps 4 or 5 hours and then he will still just eat the 4 ounces. I guess it is really true when they say every baby is very different! Do you have any suggestions for me?

IVE HEARD OF A LOT OF PPL PUTTING A LITTLE BIT OF CEREAL IN BEDTIME BOTTLES TO KEEP THEM FULL FOR A LITTLE LONGER IN THE NIGHT BUT I HAVENT TRIED IT. IM FINE WITH WAKING UP EVERY FOUR HOURS. GOOD LUCK, IM SURE THAT IS FRUSTRAITING.

i was told that you multiply 2.5 by their weight in lbs to get the total oz they need for the whole day. so if you baby is 8lbs then they need 20 oz a day roughly. but it all depends on your baby...some babies just arent that interested in feedings and some are constantly going through growth spurts. hope that helps

I agree with Angela. Babies know how much they want, as long as he is peeing and pooping still, he's fine. If he doesn't pee very much, then he might be dehydrated, but all in all, babies know when to get up and eat and when to sleep!

hi there,

sounds ok to me, my bub was born on the 7th october 09 and she is drinking roughly 100-150mls (4-5 ounces)every 4 hrs, somtimes alot less if she falls asleep. she usually will drink 4 1/2 ounces but she was born 9pound 11 ounces so a bit bigger than yours.

maybe try and feed him every 4 hrs tho as 5 is a while of a gap, saying that tho every bub is different and some bubs just need less, as long as he is putting on weight than he is getting enough. my bub also has only been feeding every 6hrs thru the night.

hope that helps :-)
