My Dr. said I can start feeding my son solids. He was born Oct 25th. He is doing great, eating rice cereal with apple sauce mixed in. Just wondering if anyone else is feeding their Oct baby yet.

Hi Cheri. Have you got a particular schedule you are following. Mirko was born on 10 Oct, but the Dr has said to wait until 5 months, even if Mirko is a big baby for his age, 7.4kg and 67cm. :-)
Not quite sure how, when and what solids to introduce.
All the best and congrats!

My baby was born Oct 29th and I have been trying her with rice cereal once a day. I get it in her mouth but she spits most of it back out. I read about that in the What to expect the first year book and it says to just keep trying.

u start w/ rice cereal and fruit w/ milk/formula mixed in after 3 weeks u introduce veggies and that at lunch time but still give fruits in the a.m. and about 3 weeks later start meat.. meat is a challenge..keep feeding the baby milk/formula its still needed

I remember when the guidelines said to feed solids at 12 weeks, they are just guidelines. My dd was born 22nd and I started feeding her baby porridge last Friday at lunch times and she loves it, she giggles when she sees the bowl and spoon. I am going to try her on pureed bananas next week

My son was also born 25th October. I tried some rice cereal last week because he loves watching us eat and makes 'chewing movements' while he sits on my lap at the dinner table. He looked like he wanted to eat. But he wasn't keen on the cereal, it was pretty runny and mixed with breast milk, but he just spat it back out.
He has tasted custard and strawberries and ice cream etc, but only tiny tiny bits

My baby was born on the 1st of Oct and has been eating puree apple, pears and banana puree ect and loves it. Knows how to eat off a spoon and has no problems with it at all. I started him on farax but it made him constipated so i have not bothered since with it so just feeding him fruits.

I would not give my baby anything before AT LEAST 5 months and current guidelines are not recommending you start before 6 months. I understand every baby is different but starting solids too early is not good for their digestive tract and leaves them more prone to developing allergies. Fruits esp things like apples can be very constipating too. Not a great idea, they are too young for solids!

Hi Andrea,

Yes they do say between 4-6 months for solids but every baby is different. My bub is 4 months and he is on rice cereal. You should know by now that not everything go's 'by the book' anymore! Especially if they are waking through the night when they are normally sleeping and feeding like crazy through the day. These are the signs you have to look for and immitating you eat :)

I started giving my daughter rice cereal on the advice of both my doctor and health nurse, seeing as my daughter just wasn't satisfied with breastmilk alone anymore. I know they say not to start till baby is about 6 months, but some babies are so different and ready at their own pace. My daughter was actually trying to pull our plates towards her, as well as grabbing our cups too. She even has 2 teeth in already. But, fortunately, the rice cereal seems to be helping her out with feeling more satisfied... she's not trying to eat every 45mins to an hour anymore!

My son was born on October 21st and I haven't given him anything other than breastmilk. I will talk to the dr about it at his next appointment in a couple of weeks. How do you know when your baby is ready? Do you feed him/her once a day or more?

Oh man. The AAP doesn't recommend solids until 4 months at the EARLIEST!!!! It is better to hold off longer especially if you are breastfeeding. If you are determined to start solids early it is better to start with fruits and veggies. Rice cereal has no nutritional value and can actually cause constipation.

Jessica, it doesn't matter which fruits or veggies you start with, just make sure you wait several days before introducing new ones so if baby is allergic you know which he is allergic to.

The earliest I started my kids on solids was 6 months and my DD started at 10 months. My new little one will probably start closer to 10 months also. None of them have any texture issues and all eat a very wide variety of healthy foods.

I started feeding Addisyn solids last Friday. She cries when I feed her the rice, but I was mixing it with breast milk...maybe I should try applesauce or pears like the other moms did. She loves her bananas and sweet potatoes, but then again we've been working on those alllllllllllllllllllll week!

My son was born on the 11th. I have been mixing rice cereal with pears and sweet potatoes for about a week. He loves it but won't eat the cereal by itself. Yesterday he was reaching for the spoon and "helping" Me feed him. starts fussing in between spoonfuls. I must not be moving fast enough for him.
