I have just started doing this and i bought 4 small ready made cartons of Aptamil because it got really good reviews on most websites. My daughter has had it twice now, she screwed her face up the first time but the second time she gulped the lot down. She's even been sleeping a little bit better *touch wood*

You can also supplement with donated breastmilk. See:

Or even, in small amounts, starting at six months (which is soon), cow's milk:

my first pregnancy i had twins and found it easier to formula feed, they started out on enfamil, which made them so cranky and uncomfortable, then when we moved to PA they got switched to simalac. The girls seemed less cranky and had an easier time burping, But really it all depends on the baby.

It's never a good idea to water formula down it can cause malnutrition. Ask your pediatrician. The constipation is probably the iron in it.

You'll probably have to try different ones to find one your baby likes/can handle. I started my daughter on Enfamil A+ but it made her too sick, so I use Good Start..which she still spits up on and gets constipated a abit (I water her formula down every few bottles)..but I'm too scared to change it on her!

I have heard that the store brands are just as good as the name brands and that it's an individual decision.

its a trial and error unfortuantly. my son was on karicare gold because thats what the hospital used at the time and i figure he was good on it. but when my milk finally dried up and i went full time karicare he got constipated. so i changed to s26 gold. he apprears to be better now. so go with what suits them. also i fould since s26 has more water to formula ratio its better. but when you give formula try to encourage some water on its own to prevent consitpation.

I use Enfamil Premium. Don't worry if you have to supplement. I did and it took away a lot of stress for me. I found that because I was less stressed I actually had better milk flow and breastfeeding got easier. So I rarely have to use the formula.

Have you checked the Breastfeeding boards? They may be able to give you some support. Were you asked by your doctor to supplement?
