In the last week my almost 7 month old son has started getting a temper and throwing little tamtrums...he will be breastfeeding and out of no where freak out and arch his back.. i don't understand what is causing these meltdowns and how i can break the habit..isn't it too early for him to be upset like this??

My son, does the same thing sometimes. When I'm nurising, in his high chair, or holding him. I think it's most likely because he is tired and probably dosn'twant ot eat or be held. I think once we get better at reading the signals it wont happen as much.

I have the same problem except when we eat and my daughter doesn't get a taste she will scream and climb all over you till she gets it now I just put her in her high chair and feed her at the same time. I don't know why your little guy is doing it. Are you producing enough? Does he get fed anything else? Maybe he just needs more and tantrums are the only way to tell you. I hope the best of luck. :)

The comment, "maybe he's too old for the breast".....WHAT!!! He is not too old for the breast. He's probably teething. Also, my almost 8 month old has tantrums as well. Perfectly normal. Keep breastfeeding until he's at least a year old.

My daughter does the exact same thing!!!! She just turned 8 months old today. One piece of advise, I have my BA in psychology, try your best not to reinforce bad behavior (i.e., if he doesn't want to be put down and you need to put him down, and he screams when you put him on the floor, DO NOT pick him back up!) By doing this, you're child will learn that throwing these tantrums will allow them to get their way! I myself find it very hard in enforce. Be sure you and your significant other/spouse (unless you're a single mother) understand that you need to be firm when handling your child's behavior!

Hope this helps!

My little man can cry and than laugh all in the same breath. It's amazing how quickly his mood can change.

glad to know not the only one going through this either. my baby girl does this too. she screams/cries and arches her back, stiffens up, its crazy! mostly when she's tired it seems, she just doesn't want to go to sleep. also she can be very particular about HOW things are done or what she wants and she's only 8 months old!! YIKES

well mines try too for things that he should not. what i do is let him scream and still dont give it to him when he done. i simply tell him that not the way, screaming it not goin to work. i try to reason with him on his level and then give him some love and hand him something that is safe for him to play with.

My baby is 7 months. She's normally pretty easy going. But lately she has quite the attitude. She will throw fits if she can't play with the remote or with my cell phone. And she never wants me to put her down, always wants to be in my arms. I think because she has her first tooth coming in that she is being more difficult.

My baby pulls away from nursing and cries but I think in his case its from the pain of teething and nursing doesn't make it go away. He is almost 8 years old and hasn't seemed to be mad yet for no reason. He definitely gets mad if we take away something he likes to chew on like cell phones! :)

Is it a temper tantrum or is he freaking out because he's in pain but has no way of telling you? Cicely throws tantrums but they are different from when she does that to me when I'm BFing her. When she does that it's because her gums are hurting her. She's really doing it now but the tooth just popped through the gums so it shouldn't be too much longer till salvation. She has been teething for a few weeks but finally her first on is coming through!!! Yay!

I hope you're able to find out what's wrong with the little man. Sorry I can't be more helpful but try what each of the women are saying and you may be able to narrow the problem/issue down. Good luck mommy!

At 7 months they are starting to really develop their personality so it wouldn't surprise me that a temper tantrum comes here and there!

Yep my LO has immense tantrums at the moment. She slams her feet in her cot, and if she has moved round the other way, she will kick the bars really hard! And then there is the arching of her back when she is in a mood! Thats interesting Chrissy, my LO is sleeping less (I didnt think that was possible with her!) and she has gone off her food. She is trying to stand when she is crawling too! I think they are just so active and their minds are going on speed drive that they can get frustrated more easily!!

my son born Oct 3 and he does the same sort of thing he will latch on then let go and have a fit then latch on again.
this is what I read for week 32:
most babies go through a fussy period as their development ramps up. Yours may sleep less, have temper tantrums and lose her appetite.
• He’s starting to realize that if he’s smiley, you’ll react. Don’t be surprised if he’s crabby one minute and sunny the next.
• He can probably stand, although not yet pull himself up.
Is that a fact? To crawl, a baby combines her already learned skills of kicking, rocking on all fours and reaching.

for a 33 week old baby: how they grow
• At this age, babies start to use things for what they're intended - “calling” on a phone, sharing toy food, etc.
• Whether he’s creeping, crawling or scooching, he’s becoming more independent.
• Note her carefully watching your mouth movements in her effort to learn to talk.

My 7 month old daughter has also started having little tanties particularly at dinner time in her high chair she pulls herself forward then slams herself back i feel its because she doesnt like to be restrained and wants to get in on the action with her brothers....

Yea my lil girl has her little tanty's too shes 7mths and 3days old. If she gets her lil mits onto something and I take it off her she squeezes her lil fists together and goes red and screams. It's Shocking LoL. Once she can't see the thing that she had she settles down. Outta sight outta mind. We dont have any other children so I don't know where she got it from. But they are quite clever and understand alot. Suppose thats the way they're expressing their feelings.

yes he is just getting a little temper, he tends to melt down if me or daddy leaves the room for a second, i guess it's just a faze they go through.. it's rather funny now that i know nothing is really wrong, he gets this little squeal going, hurts your ears but i guess he's found his voice! thanx ladies for your feedback!

I am not sure why, but I don't think they are too young. They are very smart. My daughter cries until her grandma puts her to sleep. It is like she doesn't like me after 8:00 at night. Also, her grandma lives with us but she is not always the one to babysit her. They are just testing us already. Some don't want to wait until they are 2.
