Hey why are you having a costume party for first birthday!!!!!!!!!! Your baby might not like it and moreover; its your child’s birthday and a costume party is not way going to delight them. I would recommend you to consider kids-friendly themes such as Barnyard, Mickey & Minnie, Jungle animals, polka dot, or may be a color theme party. Here is a link that will give you more ideas. I think it'd be a good idea when they're older. Just because a one year old might not like being in a costume so much. Or at least mine wouldn't like it haha. We're having two parties because both my husband and I's families are so big. One party is going to be Spongebob themed because he LOVES Spongebob. And we're not really doing a theme for the other party.

Halloween isn't tacky at all! It's my favorite holiday and I'm thinking about doing a halloween themed party next year..

My LO was born on the 3rd, and already had his party yesterday!! He had a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed one because even though he doesn't watch a lot of TV, he heard it once and was hooked to it... it's the only show he really will sit and watch.. it's so cute whenever they sing he claps, jumps and laughs! He loveddd all the Mickey stuff around him, especially the balloons.

Word of advice: PLAN A NAP RIGHT BEFORE THE PARTY! I tried to put him down for one beforehand but I think he was too excited seeing everyone run around in the morning so he wouldn't, thus making him scream and cry during his cake because he was SO tired. He perked up during the gifts, but if he had a nap beforehand he would have had a lot more fun :)

I am not really doing a party for my daughter... I have a 3 year old, and I didn't have a party for him till he turned 2 and knew more about what was going on... At this age, she can't open presents by herself... she isn't going to know really what's going on, so the party ends up being more for the parents... and I can't afford that or don't need it with another on the way also. I will do what I did for my son on his first... we will make Kaya a cake and let her put her face all in it and get messy, and I will make her very favorite foods for supper with just a couple of presents.

My son turns 1 on october 27th so we will be having a halloween party got some funny stuff dont want anything scary cuz of the little kids but everyone has to wear costumes including the parents hahah

Arianne Thats sounds awesome! I was thinking of doing the same thing. Since our little guys are too little to tell us what they want i think its a great idea for a costume party especially since your little mans birthday is so close to halloween, my son was born october 19th so we are right behind ya! Its no tacky at all it sounds like fun!

I got a catalog that is full of bday decorations, plates, cups, balloons..etc. We chose the rockstar theme for our little girl. Its cute and something kinda different which is what we like. There is a website you can visit to order the things from this catalog and they also have halloween themes(for halloween of course but the deco would be perfect). My son born on the 17th is going to end up having 2 parties. 1 on saturday and the on Sunday. I was thinking about a Halloween party too, which is a fantastic idea. However I am going to forego that idea til maybe next year. His nickname is Monkey, and I am a safari junkie, so we are doing a safari theme. And he will make his debut wearing his costume, what else, a cute little monkey.

I think that while I would LOVE to have a costume birthday party for Yuuki for her first birthday since she won't apprieciate it much we're going to do something small, maybe go to the park with friends and family. I'm not quite sure yet.

I love the idea of a costume party... I knew a girl growing up whose bday was halloween and I was always jealous. I was hoping to have my son later but a couple weeks late is stretching it lol. Since his bday is the 12th we are hoping that the weather will still be nice so we can rent a shelter at the local park. Still trying to come up with a theme though. Good Luck!

WE are having a bday at home for my wee man born on the 17th im making a cake and his fav people are coming. nothing too big as it will overwhelm him and he wont remember. I thought of a costume party mainly for his brother and brothers friends benifit cos they would love it. nothing really big but ecxiting all the same.

We are actually not making a big deal out of it. Im having everyone bring a non perishable food item(preferably baby items) to give to the food bank. She is the first granddaughter on my side and was spoiled rotten. So we want to give back to familys that need it. She was born on the 8th and since Thanksgiving(Canada) is the same weekend im going to make her a pumpkin cake. :o)

hey guys!! I think the costume idea is cute. I had thought of it once, but my baby was born on the 8th..so it's too early. My daughter is having a Princess themed birthday. We're renting out a building and making it lots of pink and purple. A couple bubble machines..bubbles for favors...typical birthday stuff, just very girly...I've seen these little cakes that look like a princess standing up..I'm buying one of those for her, and a big sheet cake fore everyone elso to enjoy. I'm excited and I can't wait to see birthday pictures of all our little OCTOBER BABIES!! :)

My son will be 1 on October 13th, and the theme for his birthday is going to be Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. I purchased all the decorations and the CD from the show. He loves the songs and dances to them. It does not matter what he is doing when he hears Mickey's voice he stops to see Mickey. We are just going to do it at our house and have friends and family. I can't wait, it is going to be a great day!!!

Its not tacky at all. My sons bday is Oct 29th and my nephew is Oct 30th. We are definately gonna have some birthday party dilemas just based on that. As far as the theme we thought about the whole 'Halloween' thing and I decided that (while its an awesome idea) I dont want him to have to share his birthday even if it is with a holiday. If he decides thats how he wants to celebrate it when hes older then it will be his decision. I think the only reason I feel that way is because my husband and his brother are only 1 day apart and they always had to share their party with each other. My oldest son was born on Thanksgiving and my daughter was born near Easter. It seems all my kids are holiday babies so Im trying to keep the holidays out of their special days. Good luck with your party planning. The first is always special. Just try not to overdue it. We had too many guests at my oldest sons first bday because we were so excited and wanted everyone there. Let me tell you, it was way too much work and stress. We have since decided to do pretty much family only.

My son was born Oct 26th but I don't want every birthday he has to be Halloween themed, that's just me. I do think it's fine to do one though! And you don't have to do it on your son's birthday, you can do it a week or so later, a little closer to Halloween.



We are going to be doing a Pirate-themed party, not sure if I am going to ask kids to dress up or not, most likely not but we'll have hats and stuff

I'm doing an animal themed party. There's a park close by with a petting zoo so I'm having it there to go along with the animal theme! Plus there is a playground so I won't have to plan a bunch of activities since the kids we are inviting range up to 5 or 6 yrs old. That should keep it laid back, very few decorations to arrange and clean up! Probably just balloons and table cloth. I'm going to make cupcakes and put animal candies on them, so no eating utensils to buy or clean up. I plan to have simple snacks, maybe some to go with the theme like goldfish, animal crackers, gummy bears. And I am inviting all the children to wear animal costumes. I plan on making my own invitations, animal theme. Also, little party favor bags for each child with little things to go with the theme like grow-in-water animals, babyfood jars of gummy bears, animal stickers.

my daughters birthday is on a friday. i plan to take her to the zoo, and any playgroup mums who want to join us can. that way all her little friends can come, but i dont' have to deal with the stress of having a zillion people at my house, and catering for them all!

on the weekend (probably the saturday, but maybe sunday) will be a party with immediate family and a few close friends (of mine!). it won't be themed, i'll prolly save all that jazz 'till she's a bit older and can appreciate it more.

i'm a single mum, so this is as much a celebration of me surviving as it is her birhtday!

We're doing an elmo theme for my daughter also. The only thing she pays attention to is elmo's world on sesame street, and loves her elmo toys. She even has an elmo pack and play!!! So, I think it will be real cute! We're going with the baby elmo

I like the idea of a costume party, but I think I'd rather wait until my son's older and can enjoy it more. He's an Oct. 15 baby. I think for his first we're going to have it outdoors at a local park under a pavillion. A cramped house party might be too loud and frightening for him. As for themes, I don't think he'll really appreciate anything besides the bright colors, but I've decided to do a Thomas & Friends theme as he loves to watch his dvd. Also, the park we are having it at has a little choo-choo train that you can ride around the park, so that fits perfectly :)

I like the costume theme, but since my daughter was born on the 7th, i've decided to take another route. I am going to have it an indoor kids playgroud "Kids Kingdon". They have a 2hr party limit, which i think is enough parting for 1yr. olds. If they do need more playing time they can stay after the party and play for free. They provide all the party supplies and their is a lot of activities to keep children of all ages accupied. I will have a cupcake theme.
I hope this was helpful. As i see it they are 1yr old and they will be tired. So a two hour party time is enough play time for those little tikes.

I seem to be the odd man out :) While i love the idea of a costume party I want the separation between the holiday and the birthday for my daughter.

I plan to do just a small family gathering for her with family. It can also be overwhelming for kids with so many people/adults in the house that I think we will just do immediately family. I love the idea of having everyone there, but my daughter is so low key that smaller is better.

My daughter was born on October 6th and your idea of a costume party sounds great since your child was born at the end of the month. Plus they would make for super cute pictures =) For my daughter's its monkey themed, my mother is obsessed with monkeys and everything she buys my daughter is monkeys so it's kind of stuck lol. We are just going to have family and friends over, and i'm thinking of getting a ball put for the kids. My daughter is obsessed with balls for some reason. lol. There isn't much that we can do, since nothing really holds her attention!! But def getting her a mini cake for her to destroy!!

Hollween parties are good. My bday is in the beginning of october and i had a halloween themed party a few years in a row when i was a kid.



My son's bday is october 4th. We are planning to do just a small get together with our immediate families and closest friends. Not too many kids in the family so Domenic will be the center of attention. We're doing the winnie the pooh 1st birthday theme for invitations, etc. And im going to make a homeamde cake with fondant and all that looks like a classic wood block and a smaller version just for him to destroy/eat. Im also making a dvd with clips from a bunch of videos from his 1st year to give out to everyone as the favor.

My son's b-day and his party is going to be Oct. 2nd. We are having a BBQ in the yard. With me not working, we have to go the inexpensive route. We're going to borrow a big party tent and table & chairs from a friend, and have the party catered. We're thinking of renting a bouncy house but not sure yet. We were thinking of the halloween idea, but I figured if the kid's got thier costumes stained or ripped or whathave you, thier parents would be mad, so we opeted out of that.

Our little guy was born on Halloween, but it really isn't a big deal here, pretty well nothing happens for it and it passes as any normal day (australia).
We are going on a holiday interstate at the start of October, so we are using that as the main excitement for his birthday. Then we'll have a day of just the 3 of us on his actual birthday (no family live where we are). The week after his birthday we are heading to our hometown and will celebrate with a party in the park with our family & friends.
Lucky boy, is going to have a month long brithday just about!!

I don't think a Halloween Costume party is tacky at all...I'd do it if we had it here!!

I think a Halloween party is super cute!! It'll be around Halloween so the decorations will be out! AND you can reuse them for your own halloween decorations as well.

I have already started planning Sofia's birthday party. She was born on October 9. I have a BIG family so I'm having it at a park. I've rented a pavillion in case it rains. I've also hired face painters and balloon twisters. I am also getting a moonwalk and a cotton candy machine. I know, I'm doing WAY too much but I can't help it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I like it. a little sad my daughter's is in the beginning of the month. My daughter was born the 10th! sooooo 10/10/10 trying to come up with a theme too. I'm thinking autum colors...browns, golds, reds but that's all I came up with! But I like the halloween theme!
