What to do about constipation?

My son is 9 weeks old and recently has issues pooping. My doctor told me it should be like the consistency of peanut butter but his is much harder than that. She said I can give him karo syrup which I did. It helped his pooping problem but it seemed to give him a sugar rush and I was only using 1 teaspoon in his 4 oz. bottle. I'm not sure I want to use karo syrup because of that...he had issues going and staying asleep. Once I stopped the syrup, he slept fine again. Any suggestions?

Is she too young for juice? Oils can give horrible diarrhea and end up dehydrating.

ya breast milk is alot nicer on the tummy but I also dried up and had to just switch her to formula :( I miss breastfeeding her. but shes fine now after her no pooping incident!
He recommended teaspoon of Corn Syrup because if you give them mineral oil u have to mix it with there formula or food or whatever cuz its hard on there throat or something like that. Its not safe he said so Corn Syrup is the way to go!
Does poor baby feel better yet??

Breast milk is a LOT less constipating than formula. Did you just switch? If so, can you wean him off the milk slower?

my doctor told me to put a teaspoon of Corn Syrup in her bottle or on its own. =) she finally did poop ! My girl didnt poo for several days..so i called health nurse and then took her to her doctor after the "home remedies" failed to work (pushin legs into belly, warm cloth on her stomach, warm bath).

Oh, my daughter is 9 weeks old now also - born 8th October :)

The problem started when she was about 4-5 weeks old. My breast-milk dried up and I had to switch to formula.

I had issues with my daughter when I switched to formula - she was straining a lot and crying, she went from pooping up to 5 times a day to only once, and on a couple of occassions not at all. My sister suggested 1/2 a teaspoon of brown sugar in her bottle. It worked wonders! I only put it in 2 of her bottles per day (never before night sleeps, as it does keep her awake a little). About an hour or two after the first time I gave it to her she pooped (a lot, it leaked out of the nappy - so be careful lol) and the consistency changed from clay-like to like peanut butter.

Now I only give it to her if she hasn't pooped for a day. Also I've found if she hasn't gotten rid of all of the wind after a bottle she won't poop properly either.

Good luck :)
