i personally think its discusting to put your baby through that kind of pain just becoz you think it looks cute. I plan on waiting till she is old enough to understand and use it as a reward for example behaving for a certain period of time or some thing...

I think that borders along the line of people who get thier son's circumsized?!  After all there is no medical reasoning for having that done either it's all about the look, right.  They should have to wait until they are old enough to decide if they even want it done.

my daughters father took her to get her ears pierced at 6 weeks old - against my wishes i might add - but i do not think a childs ears should be pierced untill they are old enough to decide for themselves what if when she is older she doesnt want holes in her ears? shes not very likely to thank you

No one should get their daughters ears pierced at such a young age. Let them decide when they are older, in their teens.

Far better to do it when they are babies ! My two daughters were done when they were a few weeks old and love the fact that they can wear earrings unlike some of their friends at school who are unable to do so. Most girls love earrings - it is so much easier to do it when they are babies when you can keep them clean and look after them. The holes heal beautifully and when they are older, you can take them out for games etc. and then put them in later. Don't delay - do it today !

im sorry but that is something i would never do. i would let my daughter tell me when she wants to it. lil ones like to explore what if she pulls really hard on them.

my bestfriend got her daughters done at 3 mnths and now regrets it b/c they got infcted and she is allergic to the metal. why would you put a lil one through that

[deleted account]

I was told by my doc to wait till after they have had their 6 month needles as the tetanus needs all three needles to be effective. I personally think the younger the better. Yes you have to hold them down for it to be done but you also have to hold them down for their needles. Their ears are easier to clean when their babies, they don't usually touch their ears either so they dont introduce dirt and bacteria like they would if they were older. Plus babies heal faster than older children. I had to wait till I was 12 to get mine pierced, my mom wanted me to be old enough to take care of them myself. I went with my SIL and my neice to get hers done when she was 8 and she freaked out after the first one was done and didn't want to get the other one done. then she had an infection because of playing in the dirt/sand and not cleaning them properly. I say do it when their babies its easier to care for and I don't know of to many little girls that don't want their ears pierced

When I called the doctors office to see when. They said she had to be 3 months old. I would call your doctors office to see if they do them. My daughter will get her done at the doctor this month. good luck.

I'm with other women on this one when they say wait until she asks for it. As far as safety's sake, I would at LEAST wait until she has all her shots. My parents pierced my ears when I was very young. We then later discovered I was pretty allergic to metal other than gold (to this day, even if I have surgery, it has to be with gold instruments), and my doctor said that it was likely due to getting pierced with cheap metal.

We just got our daughter's ears pierced the day she birth. In my culture we do it like that. If you sea a baby without earings you understand is a boy, and i dont want people confuse my baby girl.

I would never do that to my daughter!
1. it's her choice, she should decide for herself when she's old enough.
2. she pulls and rubs her ears a lot when she's sleepy.
3. I don't want her to grow up and resents me for it!

I have two daughters, and they're both one month old when they got their ear pierced. Their pediatrician did it and I can assure you that there will be no infection or swelling of the ears on that age simply because they can't reach their ears yet and they don't toss and turn yet which can prevent the swelling. They cried for just a second and they're fine after that. And having their ears pierced is a good idea if your baby's hair is not that thick and always mistaken as baby boy.:-)

[deleted account]

if you're going to do it, you should skip mall boutiques and head to an actual piercing shop. piercing guns are horrible, no matter how old you are. that's where most piercing problems come from. if you do get it at the mall, buy sea salt and soak the new piercings with a sea salt/warm water cotton ball. way better than the crap they give you!

Simple... don't. I believe in waiting until your daughter is old enough to ask to have it done. that way she will appriciate it and possibly look after it better. Putting your child through unessassary pain is cruel. My parents made me wait til i was 13. yes a little excessive but at least i knew i wanted it done and it was special for.

My daughter just turned 3 months and I am planning this month to get them pierced. Personally my parents waited till I was 6. It hurt so bad and my ears were so infected I had to let them close up. I pierced them again and the same thing happened. It wasn't until 3 try's later and 14 years old that they healed and I was able to wear earrings. So I think it's less painful when they are younger.
My sister has two daughters and she got their ears pierced around 3 months and their ears are fine. They cried for 5 seconds and they were fine. They never pulled or played with the earrings. They are now 2 and 5. The little girls love wearing earrings!

they say they have to have their 2 month shots done but truthfully u could just tell them that she got them and they'll take your word.. my daughter got hers exactly 2 months old at the piercing pagoda in the mall.. she was not bothered by it at all and even slept on her side every night since she got them pierced. truthfully it was more traumatic for me cuz i had to hold her head still while they did it. i believe its easier while they're too small to notice them..

It's been 5 weeks and my daughter has had no problems.

my daughter was about 2 1/2 months and claires in michigan did it, of course i had to have her shot records tho, i got my older daughters done at piercing pagoda too! lol

I had my older daughters done about 2 months and after her first shots ... but I haven't had my last daughters done yet because she has such a peanut head (seriously) and I'm worried that as she gets bigger the proportion of her ears to her head will change so I'm going to wait until she gets to be a little bit bigger. She's 10 weeks but only weighs 9lbs ( she must be watching her weight cause she doesn't seem to be getting bigger)

My husband and I had our daughter's ears pierced when she was 2 1/2 months old. It was actually at the advice of our pediatrician (who did it herself). I talked to many moms prior to having it done for my baby. I have to admit I was scared for her at first, but I guess the upside to having it done early is that she won't ever remember how painful it was. Lol. In the end, it is your decision to make.

My husband and I decided to wait until Lottie Beth asks for them. I know getting my ears pierced hurt me and mine would get infected even if I took really good care of them and I don't want to do that to her. Ask your ped just to make sure before you do it.

there are so many opinions, one is do i tbefore they start to play with their hands so they wont tug at them, another is do it after 6 months, another dont do it until they know whats going on and not until they are older because it will be crooked after they grown... hope these have helped you.

[deleted account]

my twins will be getting their ears pierced at 2 months after their first shots. this is how it has always been done in my family. i went with my sister to get my neice's done about 5 months ago and she didnt' even cry. there isn't any noise anymore when they pierce so the baby may not even feel more than a pinch.

My first daughter is five, and still does not have her ears pierced..
I've left the choice up to her.
I had a problem (i'm sure we all do) with people thinking my girl was a boy..
lots of pink and those velcro hairbows work wonders for that..
haha

I have to be honest when I seen this question I immediatley thought why would you put your baby through pain that is not nessercary? I mean wait until she is a little bit older to make her own decisions. If you want to go ahead I wouldnt judge you but I do think you should leave things be and let your baby grow and mature. If she then wants her ears pierced then, go for it! :)

in my opinion you should wait til she is old enough and responsible enough to look after earrings herself. but this is my opinion. if you wish to do it at a young age that is your decision as her mother.

You shouldn't! Just my opinion but I don't think it should be done until they are old enough to ask for it. It's unnecessary pain for them. My ex sister in law did it to her daughter and one of them ended up getting ripped out!

[deleted account]

To Shanell, ears never stop growing. Your nose doesn't stop either. That is becasue they are mostly cartelege (sp?).

To answer the question, I believe it is a personal choice, but I am waiting for my daughters to be able to decide for themselves if they want pierced ears. My oldest girl is 3 and still hasn't shown an interest even though she loves necklaces, braclets and make up! For the record, I will also allow my boys to get earrings if they ever decide they want them.

This is interesting. I had my ears done when I was 12. I wasn't allowed to until then. I hated it! The worse part is I got these big bumps now on my ears. When I had issues with my newly pierced and had to let them grow in. Then I when to a tattoo place and they re-pierced my ears with a needle and told me I the bumps on my ears are from getting them pierced older and by the gun. Personally I hardly wear earrings now since the baby arrived.

I don't have an opinion either way. I personally haven't thought about it for my little girl and honestly don't want to spend money. I would ask a doctor what they think and when is safest.

I got my daughters ear pierced when she was 4 months old she is now 3 1/2 and I would do it again because it has helped us find out early that she is allergic to certain types of metal, and the doctors even said it was better that we found out now and not when she was in high school because it would have been more painful for her as she got older, and I agree because I didnt find out til I was in high school and I was out of school for 3 weeks. So there are down sides to getting their ear pierced but there are also upsides. And I will be getting my new babies ears pierced when she is 4 months old too
