I think investing in a quality convertible car seat is the best way to show your little one some love on his birthday. And it will continue to be a great investment for years to come.

Your little one is safest rear facing for as long as possible. This one is good rear facing til 45lbs and forward facing til 80lbs. So it will be a well used gift!

Our 1st B-Day gift to our son was his big boy car seat. We got so many gifts for his birthday it was almost overwhelming so did not open all of them . We will re wrap some for x-mas. *Just this year*. I know that might sound bad. With my b-day being 4 days after xmas I hated getting those xmas bday gifts in one. so I will always make sure he will get both gifts Its just his attention span is so short, that he doesnt remember that he got them already this year.

When my first daughter turned one, the best present that she got was a tea set... now it might seem a little of a girly present but when all our friends came over - all the boys were loving it too and their Mums all went out and bought their sons one! It's one of those things that they ALL love doing. ;o)

I went to babies R us the other day and they had a big buy 2 get one free sale!! not sure if its still on--call and find out--but--got her 3 leap frog toys for the price of two and plus I used a 5 buck off coupon!!! I got her the vilot education toy, and a drum, and a school bus.....she loves the other learning toys we have.....but there are other brands like that on sale.....I figured one for Bday and other two for christmas---she cryed when we put them back in the bag haha had to show daddy.

We arent doing presents for our 1 year old, but told everyone else that all he really needs are clothes bigger than 24 months. :) And because he doesn't eat many solids right now we are making a bannana cake for him.

My son was born on Nov 7 2009. he is going to be a year. I have some ideas on what to get him. My son has so much clothes and it crazy so i putting no clothes for him cuz i have no room. I want my kid to learn so i thought maybe learning toys would be good and books, videos, and cds that he would love. maybe walking toys

Just read what Staci posted - that is an awesome idea. We started the letters to my dear sweet child with our oldest. Write a letter each year on their birthday and when they are 21 send one letter a day leading up to their 21st birthday.

We don't go overboard with gifts for our kids because so many other people get them things. At Christmas and birthdays our kids get one toy present from us, although now we also let the oldest pick a present for his siblings and get him things from them as well. My 2 yo son loves the Tonka and Cat vehicles that make noise and have lights. He's been carrying the toy ambulance around since his first birthday. I also really like the idea of money for a bank account - all of our children have accounts we started with money given to them at birth. When they receive money now at least half goes into the bank - something my oldest just accepts - because that's the way it's always been.

I've already bought my son's first birthday present, I got him a trike, one of the ones that adapts as they get older so will last him til he wants a proper bike. I havent thought about christmas yet!!

My son is born nov 8th and i was so stuck on a bday gift for him as of course he will never remember it in the long run.
So i came up with an idea that i think is amazing and would love to share with everyone.
I am making my son a time capsule that he can open on his 20th birthday when he will appreciate it. I have asked everyone who is involved in his life and has expereinced a memory in his first year to write him a letter addressed to him and the address we live at. I will make him a box and put all the letters in the box sealed. I am going to include a scrap book, pictures and a dvd of videos, pictures, songs and everyone saying happy birthday @ his first birthday party and i will include that in the box as well. Im going to buy a lock and wear the key around my neck and put one in a special place.
I think its a great idea and something he can have forever!

Little People are awesome! They play with them for many years. You can't go wrong with anything from Little People. I highly recommend the nativity set, the farm, the house and all the vehicles. Also, books, books and more books! Board books are great for this age and you can never have too many. I think the perfect gift for a one year old boy is a wagon. As soon as they learn how to walk they want to start bringing all their little toys with them wherever they go. A wagon or a shopping cart is always a favorite for toddlers to tote things around. Definitely start thinking about next spring and summer. It will be here before you can turn around. A small riding toy is fun. A bubble mower or a sand and water table or a child-size picnic table will all be well-loved toys. Even consider a small table and chairs to keep indoors. It will become very useful for reading, snacks, crafts and puzzles as your child continues to grow. Simple puzzles will be another favorite toy soon.

We are getting our daughter the Little people noah's ark and some extra animals... she's really big on animals right now. As for Christmas we are getting her a toy kitchen, she might not fully enjoy it for a few months but when a birthday is so close to Christmas you need to think ahead.

My son has so many grandparents and aunts/uncles who will get him gifts, I don't plan on buying him much of anything. The babies don't have a clue right now, so save your money for when he's older and begging for all the expensive stuff! If anything, get things you NEED for him. The wrapping paper is probably what the baby will like best anyway :)

my son loves trucks cars trains diggers anything with wheels and for almost every reason to give gifts he gets at least one "wheeled" toy along with some books and clothes

If you go to Walmart's website, then go under the registry, pick wish list and go shopping. Choose toys on the drop down menu, then their age. You can find all kinds of things to get them and add it to a wish list to keep everything at a glance. Tell your families. Makes it soooo much easier if families complies. I think I have around 30 items listed under my baby girls wish list. Good luck.

I've been thinking alot about it too. To be honest, at 1 years old, they don't even realize whats going on lol. When my oldest turned one, we got her all these amazing, expensive gifts and all she did was play with the wrapping paper. I'm going to keep it really low key, get him some stuff that he needs anyways like clothes and maybe some toys to help him walk. And I like Jennifers suggestions about the good walking shoes, those can be pretty pricey. Unfortunatly for us "Nov 09 mums", Christmas creeps up on us right after, so save your money and get them something spectacular to open on Christmas day.

For Logan's birthday he's getting a smart trike, a ride-on Henry Hoover, toys, books etc. and for Christmas a Little Tikes Car, a sand and water table to use in the summer, ball pit, more books, toys etc. We've asked lots of people just to give money so we can buy clothes and shoes as he might be needing proper walking shoes by then or soon after =]

I opened an account for my daughter and for her first birthday I asked that everyone put money in the account. No one seemed to have a problem with it. We wil get her a few gifts to open but she couldn't care less about the presents but boy the paper is cool!!!! lol Christmas I haven't got a clue about yet either so I can't help you there :)

i was thinking the same thing and my family are coming to visit for my son's first birthday and i have to buy all of their gifts as well because it's not worth posting and they'll have to pay extra in luggage on the plane. what i did was put a layby on at the toy sales and will tell the family to pick whatever they want to give and pay me for it. it's just a mixture of books, educational toys and a few fun toys. all up i probably spent $200 and will probably get $150 back from the family and i think that's enough. for xmas i'm going to concentrate on clothes for the following year and have told the family to do the same. that way we still have the fun gift opening but most things are pratical and what i need to buy anyway!! we've got plenty of years ahead for the expensive and inpratical presents!!
