at what age did you kid go into a big bed

my son was born on the 22nd of novemeber 2009 and we put him in a big boys bed about 2 months ago. i was scared at the start cause of him falling out and things but he didnt fall out once.

the only thing is that he is able to climb out of bed whenever he wants lol so that means if he wakes up at 3 am he will come into mummy and daddys bed or just goes to the living room and turns the tv on lol

and when its bed time and he doesnt want too ... he has that lovely exceiting game to climb out all the time knocks on the door and then runs to his bed and smiles at me when i come in lol its cute but seriously after 5 times i have enough.



otherwise we dont have any problems whatsoever :)

My son turns 3 the end of March and will get a big bed for his birhtday. Up until now he is still very comfi in his baby bed. My thought is if it is not necessary why change?

I moved my son (2yrs) from bassinet to crib at 3 months. then from crib to toddler bed at 13 months (when he was safely able to get in and out of the bed without help). Goodluck!

Me personally at 13 months (now 2 years old) my oldest boy was sleeping in his own toddler bed. He loved it and we had no problems with the switch. My daughter is now a year old however and we tried the toddler bed thing... Its definantly a no go so she's still in her crib.

I have 3 kids my oldest who is now 6 didn't sleep in a big bed til she was 3. We tried to transition her when she was 2 but she wanted nothing to do with a bed so we left her in her crib til she was ready but my middle child who is now 2 started sleeping in a bed when she was 18mo. mostly because we were expecting our 3rd and was not interested in buying another crib. We got a extra long bed rail so she wouldn't fall out because she is a restless sleeper and we put a stool next to her bed so she could get in and out of it easy. she did fine with it...good luck

Both my olde two I had in their own beds bye 14 months old but my youngest who just turned 12 months old isn't even showing that he is ready for a big bed so think it depends on the child you as a mom will know and feel ready when it is time

we put my baby in a toddler bed when she turned 1. Now she is 2, and has a full size bed because she moves around SO much in her bed.. And even with all that room she has, she still prefers to cosleep with us..

mine was in at 11 mouths but tht was just becoz he climbed out of it how he did it al never no but he id so he went in2 a bed then as long as the have a bed gard on they will be fine

My son went from a crib to a big bed (twin size) 1 month before his 2nd birthday. I was pregnant and we needed the crib for the new baby. I moved him a few months before my daughter was actually born so he'd have plenty of time to adjust so he'd not feel "replaced". My daughter is 21 months and still in the crib. I don't know how long she'll be in it, but I have recently started thinking about getting her a big girl bed for her birthday. I've also known people who had their kids in cribs until 3+. The only thing that definately necessitates moving them is if they start climbing out (to prevent injury) or if they outgrow the crib.

my son never went to a toddler bed we put him in a single bed when he was about a year old he kept wanting to climb out of his crib and it scared me that he might get hurt so i put side rails on his "big boy bed" and he loved it ....only problem is its a bit tall so he can get off the bed but he couldnt get back on but then i just put a little stool at the end of the bed and he learned how to climb back up on the bed ...another problem he can get out of it any time he wants it makes for a chalenging night if you have a little one that doesnt like to sleep through the night

I put my 22 month old into his bed when he was 15 months old..i did this beacuse my partners nan died and we had to move in with his grandad as hes 84 and wanted to stay in his own home..so the month b4 we moved we changed this cotbed into the bed so that it was done b4 we moved so it wasnt all to much at once...he took to it straight away..yeah we had him get up and play with toys in his room but there all do that at 1st but he soon get back in when he was tried in that time we only had him fall asleep on the floor 3 times...now he knows when he gets in bed thats it bed time no playing even with all his toys in his room...he will just lay there with his fav teddy untill he falls asleep..hes now also just ajusted to no bed gurid on his bed..(about a month now) and no falling out :)

Sophie had her crib transformed into her toddler bed when she was abt 20 months old because she climbed out of her crib one morning and knocked on her door :) you'll know when it's time. I do admit I kept her in a crib for as long as possible cuz she is a roller and I wanted to avoid her rolling out of bed. A tip: get a safety rail for the bed that slides under their mattress. It's a life saver

My daughter went into the toddler bed at 16 months. She started climbing out of her crib at 13 months old but we had to wait to move into our house before we switched her beds. She was still in a room with us so it was easy to keep an eye on her to make sure she wasn't going to get hurt climbing out of her crib.

My daughter was 18 months when she went into a toddler bed. My son was about 2 and 1/2 when he did. I think it depends on how ready your child is my daughter was ready because she always saw her brother getting into his.

My son turned two oct 14th, by then he was already in his toddler bed, i did the stay close and slowly move to the door technique- it worked- then a month later he was in a twin bed with bed rail and loves it! Twins give the more room to grow

mine will be two in December she has already figured out how to climb out of her bed so we are moving her into a big bed. by what ive been told when they can climb out of it or when they are starting to get too big for their bed you can move them into a big kid bed. my daughter is excited. so who knows you could give it a shot.

We moved our daughter into a twin bed at 21 months, partially because she was with my parents for a week, and they had her sleeping in the queen bed at there house, when we came home she refused to sleep in the crib so we put her in the twin bed. Worked real well.She was born oct 15. Not sure she was ready to make the switch but it did make bedtimes a whole lot easier. A friends son will be 3 in Jan and is still in a crib, although its time he moves to a bed due to his size. Good Luck!

I put my oldest in a bed at 18 months and my youngest at 14 months. But I agree with the other moms about waiting as long as possible my oldest was climbing out of her crib and was getting in her sisters crib when we had it up. They are only a year apart btw lol!

Both my older kids went into a toddler bed at about 2 1/2 - 3 years, depending on if they were climbing out of their beds by that time or not. My youngest just turned two, going to switch her bed in prob about 6 months unless I have to do it earlier.

My daughter was born 13th Nov 2009. She went into a toddler bed at around 18 months when I had 7weeks left of my 2nd pregnancy.

The toddler bed got assembled & her cot went straight into the nursery. She watched her dad put the toddler bed together & couldn't wait to climb onto it.

The 1st day she took 2.5hrs to go to sleep & fell asleep on the floor. The 2nd day she took about 1hr to go to sleep in her bed. The 3rd day she went to sleep within 20mins & even stayed on her bed when she woke up until we went in to get her. She has been fine ever since.

We did put a lock on the door when she learned to use the door handle to let herself out - it has only been used twice & we still use a baby monitor in her room.

My son got put into a toddler bed when he was 17 months old, he kept climbing out of his crib and we were scared he was going to hurt himself. So, in the middle of the night, we changed his bed over and saftey locked all his draws and took the changing table down. He was super grumpy about it!! It was about 2 weeks of constant fighting and screaming until he realized having a big boy bed was cool!

My kids always stayed in the crib until one of two things happened: 1. we needed the crib for a new baby or 2. they started to crawl out of it. There is no point keeping a kid in a crib if they continually crawl out of it. Most kids will let you know when they are ready for the "big kid bed"

My daughter was 14 months when she went into the big bed..my son is 18 months and still in the crib. I honestly don't rememebr why we put my daughter in at 14 months but she adapted the first night and it's been her twin bed ever since. We put up sides for her so she couldn't fall. We are going to have to put my son in a big bed soon, because he is trying to figure out how to climb out of his crib.

my daughter is 23 months and last night i put her in the big girl bed for the first time (a mattress on the floor in a new room) i layed in bed with her last night and read a book then said goodnight and left the room.. she started to cry but she only cryed for 1 min and fell asleep :) she never tried to get out of her bed or anything! there are no toys inthe new room because i didnt want to temped her to getr out of bed (ill put toys in her room after shes used to the bed) i also have a babygate in the doorway just so i can be sure that she cant walk around the house at night. she didnt even get out of her bed this morning when she woke up she just stayed there a cried for me until i came. so proud of my big girl :)

My Daughter went into one at 20 months. I set the bed up in her room about a month and a half before because I did nto have a place to store it. One night, we went upstairs to go to bed and she asked to sleep in it. She never used the crib again.

We put our daughter in a toddler bed at 15 months! I advise it! She was old enough to get down but old enough to have so much independance that she wanted to constantly get down. She's 20 months now and she has only gotten out of her bed 2x since we switched her over. She will yell for us when she has to go use the potty but doesn't get down. I think each kiddo is different!
