My baby boy is 10months old, and he sleeps alot.
He sometimes sleeps about 11 to 13 hours a night, is that normal?
Should I be waking him up in the morning?
He has forsure 1 two to three hour naps, some times has 2 naps in the day time.
He may be going through a growth period but this has been going on for a while now.
I just want to know how much is to much, and if anyone has this issue!
Thanks for your help everyone!

Ok, I was worried because my 10 month old is doing the exact same thing! He sleeps all through the night from 8pm to 8am and goes down like a sack of potatoes around 11am. He sleeps sometimes one or two hours then later on, goes down again at round 3pm and sleeps till 5pm. I just think that he sleeps too much. I was feeling like this wasn't normal but reading all of these posts is making me think it is normal. I just don't find that in between feeding and changing him, I feel like I don't get a chance to teach him and show him the world.

Please refer to this article for some info on sleep - http://mommby.com/Sleep/Infants_Toddlers... Based on what I've read most babies sleep about 12-14 hours total with about 10-12 hours at night and 2-4 hours during the day. All babies are different but it sounds like your baby is doing just fine but you can also check with your baby's doctor if you have any concerns. Take care.

My daughter is the same age and she sleeps 12 hours at night then has either one 2-3 hour sleep or one hour sleep and one 1.5 hour sleep during the day... I think what you're experiencing is a happy, content baby whose brain is developing nicely whilst they're sleeping and I would certainly not be worried about it! They need LOTS of sleep but don't worry, it won't be long until they're cutting down the sleeping hours in the day and you'll be wanting this time back again!

Nope - don't wake him. I used to worry about my second child - he was and generally still is my best sleeper (slept 13 hours a night and then napped 2-3 hours during day). My 10 month old sleeps 10 - 11 hours at night and naps twice a day (~ 1 hr and then ~2 hrs). Enjoy it! My oldest only slept a TOTAL of 10 hours in a 24 hour period as a baby (even a newborn) and doctor told me all babies were different and he just didn't require as much sleep. I cried over that one! LOL! He's still an early riser at 6yo.

Hey Leslie, I know how that feels. when my lil one was 9 mths i couldnt handle not sleeping so she went from her bed n our room to her bed being moved to her room and shutting the door. when she would wake up i would give her passy, cover her, and turn on her music. Just let her cry it out. and after a week she quit waking up. now takes the bottle before bed and at 6 am but then sleeps tll 730.

For the last 2 mths Peyton (10 mths) everyday and night sleeps from 10am till noon. Then 3 or 4pm for an hour and half. Then bed at 7-8pm till 630-730am. I think its perfectly normal you dont want to go all day and be grumpy. A friend of mine's 17 mth old went from waking up twice a night and then one nap a day. Now she wakes up once and takes 2 naps all of a sudden.

I didn't think my daughter would ever sleep through the night. She finally did around 9m old more regularly because me and her dad bought a house and she finally got her own room. She now goes to bed around 8 or 9pm and then wakes up around 8 or 9am. She also take 2 naps during the day usually an hour to an hour and a half and if she stays on that schedule she is the happiest baby all day long! She even knows how to put herself to sleep in her crib for naps and bedtime!!!

I have 10 mth old baby girl and she sleeps alot also. during the day she also takes at least two naps and at night shes up ready to play. so i would suggest that if shes takes a nap during the day try not to let him take that second nap.

My first was like that and even the doctors were envious. She still is a good sleeper at 5 years old.....about 11 hours a night. My 10 month old son sleeps between 10-11 hours a night and a couple of naps in the day but my friend has had only about 3 nights over the last 5 years where one of her kids didn't get up in the middle of the night. Be thankful.....I still am.

I dont think it's too much,
My son sleeps from 7pm til 7am pretty much every night and he has two naps a day, usually for an hour each time. Hope this helps.

I'm jealous of all you mom's who's babies sleep through the night! Lucky you! My liittle boy will be 10 months on the 30th and he still doesn't sleep throught the night. He usually goes to bed about 7-7:30 and is up at least once during in the night and sometimes as many as 3-4 times. He's not teething or sick or anything. Just still wants his bottle during the night. Have tried to feed him dinner or cereal closer to bedtime so he stay fuller longer. Still won't sleep through the night. I'm beginning to think that it's more of a habit for him to have his bottle during the night then him actually being hungry. During the day he only takes about an hour nap twice a day. So all you mom's who's babies are sleeping, enjoy it and don't fret about it. They can't get too much sleep! My older two slept fine...this little guy though...he's wearing me out!

My son is 9-1/2 months and he sleeps from 8pm to 7am every day, all night. He will take 2 naps ranging from 2 to 3 hours! I think if they need the sleep then let them. Plus if he is sleeping all night then more power to ya! I am sure everything is fine! =)

My boy is also 10 months and sounds exactly the same in regard to sleeping 11-12 hours a night, but he takes 2 one-hour naps a day. It's perfectly normal..the little ones need there rest because there growing and learning so much. Sleep helps them retain all the new stuff they've been learning.

My son sleeps about 11 hours a night and then when he is napping real well, almost 3 hours during the day between two naps. About 14 hours total. But he will sleep more if he is really tired. The grandparents are in town this week and he has been exhausted, sleeping more than usual.

Babies regulate their own sleep. Some sleep more, some sleep lesser, it's really normal. Don't wake your baby up, he/she is trying to get those brain cells growing while sleeping :)

You are lucky! My baby sleeps so little I can hardly find time to do any other things!

My 10 month old daughter also sleeps 12-13 hours at night on top of a 3 hour nap during the day! I wondered if that was too much, too. But at her 9-month check-up, I asked her doctor, and he said as long as she was active while she was awake, there is no reason to be concerned with that much sleep.

I think you're very lucky, my 1st slept fairly well, but my second who's just gone 10 months is a shocking sleeper. She settles around 10pm and gets up around 8.30 am. If I'm lucky she'll have two day sleeps but lately she's only been having one! She also still wakes at night. If you have a sleeper you're lucky. To me there would only ever be a worry if your little one was always sleepy and lathargic all the time. But if your little one is happy, make the most of the good sleep habits. I'd love to swap!!! lol

My daughter almost always sleeps 12 hours a night. If she had a busy day or isn't feeling well it can be closer to 14.

She takes a half hour nap in the morning and about a 45- 1 1/2 nap in the afternoon.

So it sounds pretty normal to me. When I told her doctor how much she slept at night she seemed pretty happy about that. So I'm guessing that it's about what they are looking for.

My son is the same way! And I love it! He goes to bed at 7:30pm and usually doesn't wake up until 8:30-9am. He has a two hour nap in the morning between 11am and 1pm then another 1 hour name between 3:30 and 4:30pm. I wouldn't call it an 'issue', I would call it a blessing! Thats the time I get my cleaning done, dishes done, laundry done, phones call that I have to make etc etc. Don't worry about it, hun, when he's ready to stop napping so much, he'll stop napping so much. My 3 1/2 year old goes to bed at the same time and wakes up at the same time, minus the naps, so its great to have that adult time in the evenings to look forward to. Unfortunatly, they will be starting daycare in a few weeks when I return to work, so I hope they don't mess up his sleep schedule too much during the day. And he will have to get up earlier in order to be there by 8:30am, but other than that, I'm loving it!!

You should feel lucky lol. But that is normal my daughter sleeps usually 12 hours a night and has two 45 minute naps a day. She is almost 10 months so its not that different. He's doing great!

Hi, my daughter is also 10 months and she has slept for 12 hours per night since she was 10 weeks old. She doesnt however often sleep during the day and if she does they are half hour naps. When speaking to my friends who have children, they are all different.

NO way, don't wake him poor thing!! Every baby is different. My friend's baby was a sleeper and still is. She still sleeps 13 hours straight and is 2 years old! Sleep is HEALTHY. count yourself lucky! My son sleeps from 8.30pm and wakes up anytime after 7.30am and he has 2 sleeps during the day.

That Sounds Pretty Normail To Me. My Son Is The Same Way. I Wouldn't Wake Your Little One Up. Let Them Rest. They Need All The Rest They Can Get. It's Healthy For Them! My Son Goes To Sleep Between 6-8 P.M. & Doesn't Wake Up Until 5-6 A.M. & Takes About 45 Minutes - 2 Hours For Naps Twice A Day. (:

[deleted account]

Generally at this age most babies only need 12-14 hours of sleep at night and 2-3 1 hour naps per day but obviiously every baby is different. There's a few things you should consider though - what time do you put him to bad on a nightime? We put Logan down at 6/7pm and he gets up at 7am in the morning, whereas if we waited until later he would wake up later.
