I was just wondering if anyone's LO has developed an attachment to an item/object yet as their "security blanket" so to speak?

Yea, don't worry about it. My oldest didn't attach to anything & never even wanted a pacifier & even just quit breastfeeding cold turkey. Now my second, despite our best efforts for the cute and cuddly stuff, attached to her thumb & a hand-me-down blanket made in 1983 by Fisher-Price that has a mirror, teether ring, squeaky something and fuzzy lamb on it; an old-school activity blanket, I guess. Ugh. She rolls over on the squeaker at night and I have actually wondered what's going on in there?! in my drowsy state. Prob'ly shoulda thrown the ancient thing (it's nearly as old as I am!) away as soon as it came in the house; Heaven knows it likely wouldn't pass today's safety standards (hardy har).

The only thing he's really "attached to", aside from me, is his paci when it's time to go to sleep. Trying to figure out how to start weening him off of that. But there isn't really anything he's attached to as a 'security blanket' so far.

Thanks ladies, I feel a little better knowing that some babies have security objects and some don't.

My daughter has a moo moo she loves but she can go to sleep anywhere thru anything so its either way for her

Don't worry - my son doesn't really have a single favorite. He will grab something for a while and it will hold his interest for maybe a minute or two until he finds something else to occupy his time.

My first DD never really had a security object. At 3 she usually has a favorite toy-of-the-month, but that's it. She never sucked her thumb or wanted a pacifier either.

My second loves anything resembling a blanket when she's tired - a t-shirt, a washcloth, you name it. She puts it against her cheek and starts sucking her thumb. Cute!

Just different personalities, I guess.

I might just add I'm happy he's not overly attached to anything up until January this year I refused to sleep without my teddy bear (im 21 i might just add) and cried for days and suffered insomnia when the removalists lost it

Sofi Camila has no "secuirty blanket" either. She even stopped bothering with the pacifier on her own, and now refuses to take it. She does have a few plush toys in her crib that she plays with when she wakes up in the morning, but that's just to keep her entertained while mommy gets a couple more minutes of sleep! =]

Marshall has lambie (his lamb skin that lies in his cot) he won't sleep unless he's on it and his dummy (pacifier) but it doesn't leave his cot unless it's being sterilised. apart from that he doesn't really have an attachment to anything

Yeah Sebastian has a little lamb called Liam...it goes EVERYWHERE with us!! We lost him shopping so now bought two more to keep in rotation :-) it's very cute when you ask where Liam is and he'll crawl around searching the room until he's found him, then clutches him in his hand sucking his thumb...I hope these memories stay with me forever!!!

Not really she does sleep with a toy but that's more to preoccupy her when she wakes up in the middle of the night. She's slept plenty of times without it so I don't think that it will become an attachment.

My little girl loves her hotwater bottle which has a monkey cover on it. She chose it herself. I wouldn't worry if they don't have anything, makes it easier later!!

As long as Christena has her thumb she is good as gold. She also loves her burpies (cloth diaper or receiving blanket) when we are out.

I was just curious because my son doesn't seem to be attached to any object. I hope this is normal, I'm starting to worry a little.

My son developed an attatchment to his "burpee" which happens to be a cloth diaper. I tried getting one of those little blankets with a stuffed animal attatched- but he always ends up with his burpee. Silly boy- burpees are for spit up! :)

Yep she has a dummy and a 'taggie' blanket, she takes ages to sleep without them
