My daughter and I are taking baby swim lessons and she's 6 months old. Sometime around 9 months of age, they lose the reflex of taking a deep breath when blown a puff of air at their nose, which is how you can train them to hold their breath to go under water. I would say take lessons sooner than later so they're comfortable in and around water and they know safety around water too.

Okay so we tried swimming with our son and the water was cold for him so he did NOT respond well! We'll try again next time and make sure the water is warm enough (like his bath water). I don't want him being scared of the water

i have had my daughter in the pool since she was two weeks ole... she started swimming lessons just shy of 4 months old - absolutely loves it - she is now 6 months and has been going underwater since she started lessons and now crawls along the mat before falling into the water with the instructor - splashes and has lots of fun!

I live in South Africa and my son was born in the middle of our summer. He was 2 days old when I first took him for a swim and he loved it. He is now 6 months old and we don;t swim at the moment because it's winter. But during the summer we took him into the pool regularly and he absolutely love it.

Aiden goes swimming with us on a regular basis! :) He wears a life jacket though a few times he has been allowed to take it off...He LOVES to lay on his back and just float around the pool... other times he chooses to sit upright and kick his feet and play. He LOVES the pool. My two year old loves the pool too.. he has one of those swim suits with the foam in the front and the back and won't stay with us LOL he LOVES to swim and is all over the pool :)

My son, Ryan, loves the water! He's 6 1/2 months now and I first took him about 1 month ago. He wasn't apprehensive at all and seemed to be very relaxed. Usually he's really happy and smiley, but once we got in the pool he just completely zoned out and relaxed. Now we have a cute little boat/float for him and he loves it...he's all smiles! :)

I have been taking my son swimming now a couple of times and he just loves it! The first time I took him we where in the pool for about a hour he had so much fun. Same with the second time and my husband was able to come. Unfortantly we don't get to go as much as I would like because we live out of town. But he just loves his bath time as well.

Me and my son are in swimming lessons, and he loves them! He kicks in the pool, and is learning how to be in the water. He really enjoys being in the water and I think it's very important for him to learn to respect the water at an early age. Plus in lessons, they teach you how to teach your kids about going under the water....very valuable!
He enjoys his bath that much more as a result. I have bath bear (got it at Walmart) which is just a sponge to lay on, and he is very comfortable as a result.

I have been taking both my boys to mom and tot lessons at the YMCA since they where 4 months old and they totally love it. Now my oldest at 2 is a pretty good swimmer and fearless of the water and my 6 month old loves splashing and moving around in it

My little girl just turned 6 months and she is an absolute duck!! She has loved the water since she was born!! When she hears the water running for her bath...she goes nuts!! She is so excited!! We took her to a water park when she was 3 1/2 mons...and she just loved to be in the water with me walking around...it was even a little chilly...but she didn't mind! Can't wait for the summer so she can actually do some swimming...and not in the tub!
