I had that problem too...even when I cut out apples, bananas, and rice. I started giving him a little prune juice with breakfast...but what I found has really worked for us is grapes. My friend suggested it because she read that the skin of the grapes is good for constipation. My little boy LOVES grapes. I buy the green ones (only cuz I don't like the purple) and cut them in 4 and he gobbles them up. (he is 11mo). Hope you figure out what works for your little one!!!

Brown sugar and water works well. With my daughter I find weetabix (don't know if u have that in the US) but it's basically a wholewheat cereal also works.

I just went through this with my 11 month old. We have also switched him over to cows milk which is constipating. We have made the following changes that really helped him go more often and less painful. We had an ounce of prune juice to his milk. I know it sounds awful but he drinks it. We also switched his finger foods snacks to something with more fiber...for instance, apple jacks and fruit loops have 3 grams of fiber per cup. We now give him whole wheat cereal rather than rice or oatmeal because it has more fiber. Of course, beans of any kind are great! I wouldn't do the apple juice because too much can be constipating. Like everyone says, water is always best. :) I hope he gets straightened out. You feel so awful when they are in that much pain. Oh another note is that the longer they are constipated the harder it will be to help them because they start to associate pain with pooping. :(

My daughter had similar problems when she was just a few months old. If feeding your child things that help them go easier, and LOTS of water, doesn't help you can always use Miralax. My doctor approved it for us and it helped her so much! Just a 1/4 the dose of an adult mixed in with a bottle usually does the trick.

My doc told me to do half formula half cows milk to get her use to the milk.

My doctor told me that any of the fruits that start with a "p" will help him Prunes, Pears, and such will draw water into the intestines and help him go easier. Also just curious why you are feeding cows milk along with formula? It is just a nutrition thing for the babies. Our doc advised us to wait until he is one to introduce cows milk. Maybe you could sub the cows milk with water that might help him alot with constipation just because lack of water in the intestines is the usual culprit for constipation. Prunes do work but I hate to give them to the kid everyday. What seems to be working for my daughter is that yobaby yogurt. I give her 1 a day and it has probiotics in it so it helps things move through the digestive system better. It took her about a week when I first started giving it to her and then woosh all cleaned out. Feeding her 1 a day she has a regular movement daily regardless of what else I feed her. The yogurt is tasty, organic, made for babies, and they get calcium and protein from it. Its wonderful.

My doctor told me to put my daughter on this 2-5 yr old thing u stick up there butts. with meds that doesnt hurt the baby nor does it make them depend on it. But they will go within 5 mins. Helps like a charm

I wouldn't do apple juice at all, you give apples and bananas to bind a baby. When my son is constipated, I give him a little glucose water or pears. Works like a charm! If you can avoid juices all together I would. As long as your son is on a balanced diet he doesn't really need juice. I would keep up with the water and lots of it!!!

My son has had the same trouble--I give him juice and a lot of water every day, as well as lots of pears and occasionally the baby food prunes in his oatmeal. My doctor suggested avoiding rice, applesauce, and bananas. The general rule is that any fruit that starts with a "P" is great--prunes, pears, peaches, pineapple, etc. Now that he's feeding himself, I give Connor lots of whole grain breads with extra fiber, as well as canned fruits. Once he adjusted to eating "real" food and drinking more water his pooping situation has improved greatly. Best of luck!

Well, my doctor told me that my son could have whole milk before he was one as long as we gave him vitamins with iron in it. Every doctor is different. For my son, I give him baby food prunes, I feel bad giving him straight prunes, so I give him the prune/apple mixx. It always helps (he gets it a lot because he loves bananas) Im telling you though, try prunes- it will work wonders!

My son had really bad acid reflux when he was born and couldnt keep any of his formula down so his g.i dr had us putting rice cereal into his formula and it was the only way (besides having him medicated, which i didnt want) that he would keep his fomula down but since he was 3 weeks old and taking alot of rice cereal he would get very very constipated so our family dr prescibed a baby laxitive that he would take and helped him alot. At about 4 or 5 months he stopped needing the rice cereal and the laxitives but even now every once in a while he will get a little constipated and i see that it helps him alot more and also quicker than apple juice and apple juice would make him throw up because of the acidity and his reflux problems. another way to help him loosen his stools is to put about a quater sized drop of karo syrup into a sippy cup(or bottle) of water or watered down juice. :) hope this helps, i know how hard it is to have your little man suffering from constipation.

ok thanks. the dr. suggested that i give him whole milk now at 11 months of age. i will try more apple juice, I buy the gurber kind i suppose its sugar free.

Well, Your Really Not Supposed To Give Your Baby Whole Milk Until They Are A Year Old. Also, Yes, Give Your Little One Apple Juice Daily To Help. That's What I Had To Do With My Son. Just Make Sure It Is Sugar Free!

the whole milk could be the issue, as cow's milk isn't supposed to be introduced until 1 year. how much do you give him? maybe try cutting it out, or at least reducing the amount and see if that helps.
