Ok, I'm 38 weeks come this Friday and I've already gained 3 lbs sinse my last ob appointment (last Thursday) and not long after that appointment my fingers have started getting tingly and somewhat numb. I read that it is common in pregnant woment, but... Being this close to due and the fact that (I cant believe it either) I put on 3 lbs!!! in just under a week. I've not shown any signs of problems to this point (not even at my last ob appointment). Do you think the dr. will want to go ahead and get the baby out or let it go? I've red that women start to slow down on the weight gain this close to the due date. Ugh! Any advise before my dr.s appointment tomorrow?

I, too, have gained a lot of weight the past few weeks. I didn't gain as much as normal (though everything checked out fine), but I think at least 1/3 of my weight was gained in the last month! It's perfectly normal to gain a lot now ... this is when baby is packing on the pounds. :) Good luck!!! Hope you have a great delivery and a healthy, beautiful baby!

Jessica: I measured just fine even with the 3 lbs. I think part of that is going to the placenta as it has to grow with the baby to keep him/her supplied with blood and oxygen. And of course there is the retained fluids. I think you should be fine. Good Luck!

I am 37.3 days and my last appt on Monday I had gained 4 lbs in a little over a week. I don't feel like it's normal either but I am trying to tell myself that maybe it was the time of day or how much water I was retaining. About the tingling, my joints are achy when I wake up. They feel stiff and as if I am suffering from arthritus in my fingers and ankles. I tell myself it is common and a part of being pregnant but I am starting to worry myself. Ultrasound on Tuesday.... Hope the baby isn't puttin' on that four pounds and that it's just the increased hormones making me ache!

Update: Dr.'s appointment went well. Nothing said about the weight gain and just have to live with the numb/tingly fingers (carperal tunnel caused by pregnancy). But the good news is it should only be a few more weeks! Yeah.

Ahah!
That's kind of funny. Just like you I've strangely gained 3lbs from 37 to 38 week?! weird isn't it?
Since everything else was good as usual, my Dr wasn't alarmed.
I didn't change anything in my diet to make that 3lbs leap, and I don't retain water, so I don't know, but I don't worry neither.

The last month I have put on more weight than I have for most of the pregnancy. I am also having a lot of issues with swelling of my hands and leg/feet and tingling as of late so I am taking some of it as water weight. :) My doctor is still fine with what is happening and says that it is normal :) Think it's nearly over :)

With my 1st, my weight gain didn't slow down right up until delivery....my fingers and stuff were tingly too, mostly from being a bit swollen...it's almost like a form of pregnancy carpal tunnel syndrome!
