I been wondering if I should make a switch to cloth diapers specifically Gdiapers. I realized that I spent probably way more than was avg for disposables for my first one even tho she started to potty train early. Now we are stuck in the pull-ups until she moves on from that and I hope that is before our next one is born.

I have researched the pros and cons of disposables and cloth diapers. But I need some personal experience from pros at cloths diapers.

How did cloths work for you?

Cloth diapers are cheapier in the long run but be careful babies usually get diaper rash more with cloth and there diaper rash can get pretty servere if it's not taken care of properly. Also when I used them with my first son my son got diaper rash all the time and later on when he was 4 he's pediatrion relized there was blood in my sons pee. The reason for that was because his pee hole wasn't big enough for the pee to go through it. His pediatrion said it was because I used cloth diapers and from all the diaper rashes he got from me using them. So he had to have a small surgery to open his pee hole more. I took care of the diaper rashes like I was suppose to and what his doctor recemendy for me to do. After the first 6 months of using them I gave up on using the cloth and went to disposable. After that he didn't have as many diaper rashes at all. I'm not using cloth ever again. I would talk to a pediatrion about what they suggest.

If you do use cloth diapers use patrolium jelly at every changing. It helps so the babies don't get diaper rash as much. You don't need baby powder either because that can irritate the babies skin to develope diaper rash.

I use a cloth diaper bag for our soiled diapers. It has a piece of cloth in the bottom of it that you can put a fragrant oil on. I usually use tea tree or lavendar oil. And then I just wash the whole bag when I wash the diapers. And it rarely stinks, actually it usually helps freshen the room because of the oil.

Andrea - If you are set up properly there is no smell. You need to get a good diaper pail with a washable liner (you can purchase disposable, not as good in my opinion) and you wash them all at the same time.
The liner will protect your pail from getting anything onto it which reduces the smell and there are powders and sprays that you can add into your pail if there is a stink.
The only time we had a stink was when he left diapers too long in the pail and opened the lid.

Andrea- It's much less smelly than using disposables, in my opinion. Think about it, you clean off the "matter" when the diapers get changed, so that's not just sitting around. Cloth is thicker than disposables, so they hold in the smell better, and most people don't take out the disposable trash every single day. It's certainly not going to be worse than one day's worth of disposables.

I am thinking of cloth diapering (but since everyone else thinks I am nuts it will be part time cloth diapering) I think it will be easier since I plan on being a stay at home mom the first year and cheaper in the long run. I am wondering though...
How smelly is the diaper pail going to be if I am now washing them every day?

I have used cloth diapers with our son ... we started when he was a few weeks old, and we have gone back and forth with cloth vs. 'the others'.

We have used many different kinds from prefolds to AIO's. It is al personal preferance.

We we have our second one, I am going to be bringing cloth diapers with me to the hospital and using them from day 1.

Using cloth diapers is not easy, but if you make up your mind that you are going to do it, it becomes second nature to you. I wash my son's diapers every 2-3 days. When his pail is full, I through it into the washer and get them washed and when they are done I put them into his diaper basket after and go from there.

They also have a little sprayer that you can attach to your toilet to spray off the diapers so that you don't need to get your hands dirty in the yucky toilet water and poop.

I have never used hte Gdiapers, but I the few reviews I have heard were not all too good. Just make sure you look into all the different kinds, and make the choice that makes sense to you and your family.

Good Luck

I use prefolds and Thirsties covers. I also have a few BumGeniuses. I wouldn't say that I LOVE cloth diapering, but in our financial situation, I didn't have much of a choice and it's not bad. I'll tell you all the things I would tell a friend considering switching. I spent probably $300 getting all the diapers I need for newborn to potty training. It also costs about $5/month to wash them, for me. The fact that I'll be able to use the same diapers on my next baby means the savings will be even better. If you like Gdiapers, BumGenius has a system that's very similar but more inexpensive called FLIP. I've heard great things about them and am about to get one for myself. Oh, as far as time commitment goes, it takes me about 20-30 minutes a week of active time to take care of them. If you get a pair of gloves and a diaper sprayer, it's not even that gross.

We'll be using cloth diapers for the next few kids we have (my husband is in medical school). Over the next 4 years it will save us about $3000 (and that's a smaller amount than most people's would be, because I'm a bargain shopper). It's not my favorite thing in the world, but it's not bad. There's a group on here dedicated to cloth diapering called Cloth Diapered Munchkins. You may want to check out.

I cloth diaper part time because my daycare won't use them. I use the Bum Genius 3.0 AIO's and I love them muchly!

I am not familiar with Gdiapers. I use FuzziBunz diapers and wipes with my son and both my husband and I LOVE them. We have used them for a year. My son used to get rashes with the disposables but since we switched he has not had a rash. It's really not as hard to use them as people think. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

I tired them but found it hard for me. I would try it though.
