Ok I have heard some people say that based on the baby's heart rate that they can tell if its a boy or girl. My first ultrasound was today (this is my second child) and the baby's heart rate was 174bpm. Just curious if anyone else has heard this, or has any idea what the heart rate is supposed to be to tell? I have a feeling I am having a boy.

The heart rate can only determine the gender of the baby when they are making their way down the birth canal. Before that, it's not possible.

I found over 150 to be a girl on baby center.com. My OB called my first one to be a girl and she was really close...154. Having my second in Sept and the HR was 164....my husband is preparing himself for another daughter. :) Of course it's just an old wives tale, but if my OB would stick his neck out and make a claim based on that then they must see better than 50/50 odds!

It is an old wvies tale that has been right for me three times. My boys were 148 and 147 and my daughter was 167. This one clocked in at 171 so if I hold true to how it was before it is girl, but I think my husband only has boy spermies lol.

My neighbours midwife convinced her she was having a girl by the heartbeat, and what do you know.... she had a boy!

Ive heard the same thing.... supposedly I think when you are further along if the heart rate is above 140 a girl... which was true for us, and if below a boy. I am only 9 and 1/2 weeks, and we were sitting at 160 which the range then is 160-170...

supposedly girls have higher heart rates, but really that's just myth.... :)

My ob told me he thought my second was a girl based on the heart beat and I have three boys. I don't think it is 100% accurate but it is supposed to a higher heartbeat one way or the other.
