I found out the other day that I had failed my sugar test with a score of 210 :o(

I find it really strange that I failed I do not eat alot of sugar (i use to but this little one doesnt like for me to eat sweets) I drink lots of water (2 liters) a day, I am not over weight ( I have only gained 1lb and am 25 weeks along).

The Dr. said I have to go on a diet and exercise, but she is already getting on to me about not gaining weight. I feel like I am just stuck in limbo and cant do anything right

I was wondering if anyone else has this?

I found out I have gestational diabetes about 3 weeks ago now. I am 32 weeks and my bubs fundal height is now at 38 weeks, so having to have a scan to see her accurate size. Scary isnt it.. I hate taking sugars and all that stuff.

I'm in the same boat, been testing 4 times a day and can't seem to figure out what is the magic diet for me! Very frustrated, I think I'm eating what they want, and my levels are high, not able to get it straight yet, on top of GD I'm also lactose intolerant, so many of the things they say to eat, make me sick, so far just meat and salad are the best!! We will all be okay, just got to make it a few more weeks!! This too shall pass, Good Luck and God Bless!!

Maybe just eat a looooot of healthy food? I don't know, I look at food and gain weight.

I was "borderline" for having it (after both the 1hr and 3 hr tests) for my first DS. I would strongly suggest you do everything your OB is suggesting (change your diet, exercise, etc). My OB did nothing about my borderline results. My baby always measured big (may or may not have anything to do with the GD though). I gained excessive amounts of weight at one time (in one month, 11lbs weight gain!!!!). I ended up giving birth to a 10lbs baby and his blood sugar had to be tested a couple of times after his birth too. Just to make sure his blood sugar was within normal range. I had no problems with my blood sugar after my DS was born, however, my doctor constantly told me (still tells me actually) that I have to maintain my weight because I have a greater chance of developing diabetes as I get older. This time around, I passed my GD testing. Thankfully. But this little dude is now also measuring big! So we're keeping an eye on it.

I had my glucose test yesterday and waiting for results on Tuesday, my dr said bubs was a tiny bit bigger than he would like so hes concerned that i might have it.

But im sure that they will control it with diet and or medication, just remember that you will go back to normal once bubs arrives :)

i was diagnosed with GD last week and got to see the specialist to be put on my diet and get my meter and supplies. it stinks but i got to do what i got to do for myself and especially the baby. i know it should only be for a couple of more months and in the end, both baby and i will be healthy and happy.
good luck to everyone :)

I got the call that I failed the 1 hr test. I have to go back for the 3hr test. I was at 161. I wasn't told to fast so that might have had something to do with it...

I had GD for my second pregnancy (I did the test today so not sure about this one). I found it really good, it forced me to do some exercise and eat better. I went to a dietician and was told low fat, low salt and low sugar, it's all important. I had to eat lots of pasta and lots of vegies, not too much meat and only one piece of fruit a day. Also I could eat anything with the Heart Foundation tick, which included certain fish and chips from the supermarket and desserts so I didn't feel I was missing out on as much. I ended up losing weight in the last 2 months (which for me was good).

Try not to stress about it too much, good luck.

Did they make you redo the test? I failed mine the first time by 4 points, then I came back and passed. They said it was because of that glucose drink (I chugged it instead of sipped). Maybe you should ask about retaking the test.

It's nothing to do with you. Don't worry. Its all to do with your hormones and the placenta. I also have failed my first glucose test and plan to have the second one in a couple days. I've just sortof looked into this on-line. This is my 3rd baby and I've been fine with my other 2 babies. I'll take the second test and see what happens. If it does turn out to be gestational diabeties, it will suck, but I will do what I can to make sure the baby and I are ok until the birth. Three months of watching what you eat, or planning what you eat and testing my blood sugar level and such is not that long and I'll do what I can to help us both out. Try not to worry, just learn what you can and be informed. Talk with your Dr and maybe a nutrionist for answers. Don't put yourself down, you're not doing anything wrong on purpose.

I had it for my first pregnancy and I know what you are going through. You haven't failed your body just isn't processing the carbs and sugars fast enough right now. Your body will go back to normal after the birth. I didn't gain that much weight at all. I ended up taking short walks after i ate and this helped :) remember that it's not just sugar they are looking at it's carbs too so the pasta will probably have you testing high. most veg and cheese can be eaten and not have an impact on your tests. eat smaller meals and more of them. I lucked out this pregnancy and don't have it. Good luck with it :) think you are over half way you can do it :)

You don't get gestational diabetes because you eat lots of sugar, are gaining too much, etc. It is something that unfortunately happens naturally to many people during pregnancy. You can't blame yourself! Your goal should now be to continue eating healthy, drinking lots of water, and working out/not gaining too much so that you can keep your sugar down without having to take insulin. THAT will make you a good mother :) Just take care of yourself. Many women with gestational diabetes are able to continue their pregnancy without needles/insulin so just make that your goal.

210 is pretty high and it doesn't mean you were eating too much sugar. You could have had a glass of orange juice or a popsicle, and just that could make your sugar go so high. Trust me. I am pregnant with my second child and have had type 1 diabetes for like 10 years. Just a bowl of cereal will make my sugar skyrocket sometimes, even with insulin. So you just have to test your sugar alot and see what foods work best for your body. It will only be a few more months and then hopefully your diabetes will go away.

You are welcome to send me a message if you have any questions about what to eat and how to keep your sugar down.

Good luck!

I literally just got the call today that I am in your same boat. I failed the test but they said just barely. I always fail the first one but this is my first time ever failing the 3hr test. I've only gained 9lbs this pregnancy. I don't eat a lot of sweets. I drink tons of water (about the same as you). I'm supposed to take it extra easy this pregnancy because I'm high risk and have a cerclage as well ... now I have to see a dietitian and diabetic specialist to diet for the rest of the pregnancy ... seriously!?! I'm horrified. I've cried half the afternoon. I feel like I've failed this baby somehow ... like I'm being a bad mom or something. Ugh, I don't feel like I can win with this pregnancy ... and it's all just starting to pile up. I don't know what I'm gonna do. I was so happy when I found out I was pregnant ... but really scared (had 5 losses in 2009 alone and 7 losses total) ... now I just feel incompetent ... like everything I do is wrong. Hopefully the rest of the pregnancy will be uneventful ... hopefully ...

I had it with my first. I was horrified. It stinks that your Dr wants you to be on diet and excercise but then is griping that you aren't gaining weight.. Try pastas.. they put weight on me but don't have sugar. If all else fails, they'll have to give you a shot.. which was the alternative that my doctor gave me. I HATE needles, so I just watched what I ate. I didn't drink any juice that had added sugar, no soft drinks, no candy, no chocolate (that was the hardest, I think). Other than that.. I can't really give any advice because I gained the weight.. I'm sorry! I hope this helps a little.
