I am 8 weeks pregnant and my doctor told me it was ok to use Sudafed and Benadryl for my allergies. I'm nervous about taking any kind of medication during the first tri-mester. What is everyone's opinion on taking these two drugs during pregnancy?

I've taken Benadryl (or Tylenol PM) to help me sleep occasionally during all 3 of my pregnancies. I tried to avoid medications of any kind during the first trimester, but I'm positive with at least my last pregnancy that I took Benadryl during my first trimester.

I was told to stay away from any and all decongestants while pregnant. I have had allergies and I am just toughing it out!

I was told Claritan is also ok - double check with pharmacist. How bad are your allergies? I opted for none as well as I was too nervous. If they are unbearable though I would consider it.

I was told not to take my hayfever meds (which contained Loratadine) during both of my pregnancies, however, if your doctor has said it is ok I would imagine it should be fine - if your concerned you could always talk with a pharmacist as they specialise in drugs.
