Am I leaking amniotic fluid?

Yesterday I went to my doctor appointment as is was my due date (40 weeks). I never thought to ask him about the fluid I have been leaking because I thought it was just increased discharge and I did not know I was leaking so much until last night. For the past 3-4 days I have been wearing a pad and only changing it twice a day (morning and night). Last night I did not use a pad and I soaked my underwear about 4 times. The liquid is clear and does not appear to have a smell to it. When I am awake and I wet myself, I feel a gush coming from my vagina. (it does not appear to continually leak, only gushes every couple hours). I live an hour and half away, so I don't want to go to the Hospital on a Saturday over nothing. My next appointment is on Friday May 11th. The doctor told me if I didn't have the baby by then they would induce me on Monday May 14th. If I waited til my next appointment, and it was amniotic fluid, could I harm my baby?

I would call and tell them you think it's amniotic fluid. It sounds like it to me (I had a small tear my first time and it slowly leaked and it sounds JUST like yours). They will ask you to come in and give you a painless (honestly) swab- if the q-tip like thing turns blue, it's amniotic fluid, and they'll want to either pop your water all the way (they had to with mine) or give you pitocin or something to start contractions.
The reason docs want you to have the baby within 24 hours of waters breaking (some say 48 hours, but most in the US anyway it's 24) is because the risk of infection goes way up. I would pack your bag, give them a call, and get ready to have your baby! Congrats!
ps- totally sucks to go all the way past your due date- did that too.

I went to the hospital Friday, April 3rd, because I thought my water broke. The dr. did a test on the fluid and it came back negative, so I went home thinkiing that my bladder had just suddenly become incontinent. Mind you I had been going to the ER about once a week with preterm labor so the staff was well aware of my situation but the test came back negative. Well my baby was born APRIL 4th. And my amniotic sac was about empty. The whole day I wasn't just leaking, it would gush if I stood up or just changed positions, I was on bed rest. Being an hour and a half away I would have a SERIUOS talk with the dr. I don't blame the dr. because he went with the tools he had and I was 25 weeks so it was about time for my bladder to start weakening. BTW not even 20 mins after my pains began, he was born. SO I say GO!
