Anyone measuring big and told that their baby was measuring big on ultrasound?

When I got my ultrasound at 18 weeks I was told that the baby was measuring big (2 weeks ahead of schedule) and then when they measured my belly I was measuring 4 weeks too big. They didn't change the due date or seem worried. Does this mean I will go into labor early or have a big baby? According to my LMP I would be due July 3rd, but from my 1st ultrasound at 7 weeks I am due July 13th. Just wondering what everyone's outcomes were if they were told their baby was measuring big. By the way my daughter was induced at 37 weeks and weighed 6lbs 14oz so she wasn't huge.

don't always believe the doctors. for last ultersound before I have a baby they told me my child was seven pounds. I'm like yeah right. my husband is 6 5' and I'm 5 2 in. I also weight 177 when I went into labor. yes I become dietabtic while pregnant. but that did not make a difference on the size of the baby. she was born 9lb 1oz and 20inches. her first year she grew 11 inches and second year only five inches. she is 2 years old. she is 36in and 29lbs.

Due dates and pre-birth size estimates (no matter how they are measured) are guesses based on averages. For that to be the average, half of all healthy babies have to be bigger and half have to be smaller, but all will be judged by the same midline. Also where you carry the baby will change your tummy measurement and every baby carries a little differently.
With my first, the ultrasound allegedly said 8-10 pound baby three weeks early. Actual baby unnecessarily induced 6 days post dates was 6 lbs. 10 oz. Her neonatal assessment (also based on guesses of the average) said she should have stayed in another two weeks.
With my second, tummy measured 1 month bigger than dates; ultrasound was average. Actual baby naturally out 1 1/2 weeks post dates was 6 lbs. 8 oz.

I just had my son on November 20, 2011. At my first ultrasound they told me I was measuring 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Then every doctors visit after that it was the same thing, I was always measuring 2 weeks ahead of what I actually was according to my LMP. I ended up getting induced 2 days after my due date and he was 11lbs 9oz and 59.5cm long! So good luck, I hope for you that your baby isn't that big (it hurt A LOT) lol

No I was told my baby was growing behind by 2 weeks... and then they measured my belly I was 2 weeks ahead... I think it just an estimate... not to concern yourself... and your baby will come when it is ready.

I measured big with my son, but only the last 2 months. I had an un ultrasound the day before i gave birth(i was already 4cm dilated, just didnt know it before the ultrasound). They guessed his weight at 6.13-7lbs. He was born less than 24hrs later and was 9lbs even. He was also 2 weeks early. With my daughter i was measuring big by like 17wks. At that time she was already 1/3 larger than she should have been. I did get gestational diabetes. I was told if i went to term she was going ot be atleast a 10 lb baby. We scheduled a c-section for 12 days early. Unfortunately she was born at 34wks. They just couldnt stop the contractions any longer. She was 6lbs 4 oz at 34wks. She would have been that 10lbs and change if i had gone to full term!

there could be 2 reasons. They have the due date wrong or you may have a large baby. The other thing to ask your doctor about is gestatonal diabetes?

Some babies are growing larger these days due to genetic histories.Stay in contact with your doctor.

With my first son (now 27 months) I was told I was measuring big, and the baby was measuring big. OBGYN talked to me about possible c-section because he was going to be 9-10 pounds. He came out a little 6lb 12 oz peanut!

When I was pregnant I was told same thing my baby was big the head etc. I was so worried so I had another scan booked to check it again and I was examined for half a day to see if I would go on labour early. Well nothing happened I had my baby safe however I had a c section which was emergency as I had fever and my daughter's heart beat was dropping. So now I have a beautiful daughter. You don't have to worry too much but if you are worried talked to your doctor. I was induced, I forgot to say that. And also I was supposed to deliver on 9 April and hospital was saying could be more early because I started having the contractions(false). But I got my baby on the 22.

I have always measured big, and as for people who say ultrasound measurements aren't accurate I have asked and the tech will usually say that they can be up to 2lbs bigger then the baby usually is. I have found my tech to be almost dead on each time! my first was 8lbs 7oz and they had him showing 8 lbs and my 2nd was 10 lbs 12 oz and they had him at 9lbs and he came 2 weeks after that so they guess if i went to 37 weeks that he would be 10 lbs! My tummy has always measured farther along most likely because the babies have been on the bigger side. Both kids where born at 37 weeks

Ultrasounds are notoriously bad at predicting baby size and belly measurements will be skewed if you are carrying high.
Looking at the ultrasound, doctors told me to expect my first to come 3 weeks early at 8-10 lbs. They forced her out a week late by dates at 6'10" and (according to the assessment test) two weeks early. She also decided to flip to breech at 38 weeks and flipped right back the next day even though the doctor told me she couldn't. (I later found out they were trying to scare me into scheduling a c-section. They did manage to scare me into an induction and epidural which I will always regret.)
My second had belly measurements of a month further along than her dates or ultrasound measurements. She came out on her own 2 weeks post dates and 2 ounces smaller than her sister.
Your baby will come out at the time and size that are best for that particular baby.

My 3rd baby (a surprise, my older 2 were 11 + 15) measured 4 lbs when he should of been 2 1/2 lbs. He came out 10 lbs 2 ozs. The dr said he could tell by his development how far along I was, he didn't go by his size. He was born 3 days past his due date, same as my 1st two were...

i no alot of ppl that were told they had really big babys and some where even induced early because the ultrasound said they were gonna be soooo big yet when there babys were born they were always like 7lbs so i dont believe the ultrasounds. also when i was pregnant with my daughter they kept telling my that i was soo small adn sent me for a million ultrasounds lol yet my daughter was 6lbs 6oz and she was born 4 days early yet my placenta was really small and yet none of my ultrasound caught that

I think alot of babies are measuring big now adays since alot of babies are above average in size! My oldest measured 2 weeks bigger everytime yet he was 4 days late and weighed 8 lbs 10 oz. His little brother was 2 weeks bigger as well consistently and ended up 2 days late and weighed 10 lbs 2 oz.

At both of my first two Fundal Height Measurements (vertical measurement from your pelvic bone up to where the dr feels the top of the uterus is) i was measuring 2.5weeks further along so the doctor scheduled an ultrasound at 30weeks to check on the size of the baby. At 30weeks she was 4lbs & about 1.5weeks larger than average. The dr said we'll plan to do another ultrasound around 34weeks and if between then and 37weeks the baby is "flirting with" 9lbs then she would offer me the option of a scheduled c-section (because of the large size of the baby and this being my first). It's silly to change your due date from within 2 weeks of your original date since babies most often arrive in a window of 2weeks before or after your due date anyway.

Hi,

I have just had my third scan today at 32 weeks and they have said my baby is measuring big. The baby's head is measuring at 36 weeks and the legs are measuring the same. In addition to this the baby is in a breech position. I think if the baby wasn't in breech position, they wouldn't be as worried as each of my three previous babies have all been born with big heads. I have to go for another scan in 4 weeks time to check the baby's position and the size. I am hoping that the baby's head has just grown big now and wil slow down growing later on. Also I am hoping that the baby will turn before labour. They have never changed my due date though.

I am being told my baby is measuring big as well.

when i got pregnant i had just come off birth control. thinking that i wouldn't get preggo for awhile, we just started trying. i thought i had a period in july (albeit it was not a normal period) i based my EDD on that. i was fairly addiment about it but have measured big each time i've gone in (i'm 34 weeks now) and during the ultrasounds my baby was measuring big, with the latest ultrasound the tech even told me he had big ol baby cheeks!

i am going in tomorrow and hope to get a solid answer on when they think i might be due. i want to know so that i don't go into labor and think it's too early and freak out or something.

my first was born at 36 weeks so it's like being pregnant for the first time...i didn't have a normal labor and delivery so i want to be prepared for this one.

good luck and post back what they tell you! if they tell you anything :) lol

I know my sister's doctor changes her due date almost every time she goes in based on teh size but my doctor when I was pregnant last year would never change mine. I had twins and they several times would measure ahead of where I was but he said they never changed it unless it was consistently ahead by at least 2 weeks bc he said just like babies outside the womb grow at different rates, inside the womb they also grow at different rates once you hit the second trimester. He said their development remains constant from pregnancy to pregnancy but their sizes are varied. Some babies just grow bigger and faster and some smaller and slower. I am sure if he did not see reason to change it, everything must be fine. You may just have a larger baby OR your baby may have just hit a growth spurt and could possibly slow throughout the next few weeks just as children do throughout adolescents. My baby now is measuring right on track but my belly is gowing although I am not gaining much weight. I am 16 1/2 weeks along but he said different women grow at different rates, particularly since I had my twins only 13 months ago, he said my body was just already in preggo mode so it shot out fast but now is slowing down. As long as the development is on track everything will be fine. GL!

I don't know, but my niece is 34 weeks pregnant and her belly is measuring in at 45 weeks and the baby is measuring at over 5 lbs already. My kids were both late and over 9 lbs but this baby is measuring a little over 4 lbs and I am 33 weeks. I'll let you know how my niece does....or I'll tell her to check out your post and talk to you herself.
