According to every old wives tale we could find, both of my daughters were supposed to be sons. When you've got a 50/50 chance, everything is going to work often enough to make some people think it's accurate. For what it's worth, every family I know that had 3 boys and checked the gender before birth had another boy, every mom who said "I only have boys, what's the point." had a girl, but it was only 3 families each way so we're still at 50/50 chance.

An old wives tale I know is the ring trick. You get a wedding ring and put it on a string. Have your husband or BF hold it above your stomach and have a steady hand. Watch it move around. if it goes in circles then it means you will have a girl. If it goes side to side then its a boy. I have done this with every pregnancy of mine and all have came true. Wont hurt to try it :)

you can't always believe in the those tales.. BUT there is something that I've done.. and I truly believe in it.. take a ring or a needle.. something metal and string it on string.. Hold it over your inner wrist and it should start moving in a circle.... after the circle is done it moves up and down or side to side... if its side to side its a girl.. if its up and down its a boy! I did it with my first and it said Girl then boy... and guess what I had a girl! and now hopefully I'll have a boy!!!!!



Either way I hope its a healthy happy baby!!! I do have my fingers crossed and hopefully an ultrasound next week to tell me what I'm having I'll letcha know!!!!!!!



OH and one more thing.. it'll tell you the sex of every child you either have or will have!

Hei there. I don't think following old wives' tales is advisable. However, calculating backwards based on your day of conception should be more accurate (but of course not 100%). Basically, based on the exact number of days you have been pregnant, you should know exactly when you conceived. If you were ovulating on that day and had sex on that day, chances are it is a boy. This is because the sperm reached the egg immediately and male sperms move faster. However, if you were NOT ovulating on that day or if you had sex a few days before, chances are it is a girl. The female sperms live longer than the male and may have hung around waiting for your egg. So it all depends on whether the ovulation period is the same as the day you had sex and conceived. Of course it is difficult to say if you guys were having intercourse nearly everyday! Oops :)

According to the tales, im having a girl.
I was only mildly sick, and I have been getting high heart rates at each visit. I definately saw a little boy on my ultrasound though!

I based my guess on a couple of things. When i was pregnant with my son (who is 1) i had no morning sickness and didnt even look pregnant until i was like 6 months along also had a dream that he was a boy. I am now pregnant with my second who is a girl (so excited!) and i havent been able to eat anything unless its sugary without feeling sick, started showing at 11 weeks ( i know thats nuts!), wasnt able to think of another boy name, and also had a dream that it was a girl! Also i tried the chinese birth calender with this pregnancy and it was right but b4 i based it completly on that i checked with my son seeing if it was right on that. I dont think old wives tales actually work too much only if u believe them really lol. Both pregnancies the baby's heartrate has been in the 150-160's.

I dunno....my first pregnancy, all the old wives tales (except heartbeat) pointed to a girl...WRONG. This time my pregnancy is the total opposite to my first, so we'll see what we end up with I guess :-)

I don't know if wives tales are true or not but they wreckon if it sits low it's boy and high it's a girl. I was low with the first one and he's a boy i'm pregnant now and when i went for the ultra sound the baby was right up under my ribs and been told they're pretty sure it's a girl. There's the ring trick where you tie your wedding/engagement ring to a string and let it hang above your stomach if it swings from side to side it's meant to be a boy if it swing in a circle it's meant to be a girl but there's no garentees you can only hope for the best goodluck

I have this theory but its my own and not from doctor's advice at all. I think that if you crave more sex during your pregnancy then you are having a boy. My reasoning is this. When carrying a boy testosterone is released into your body whereas when carrying a girl it is not. I don't know how much truth is in my theory I only just came up with it. However I remember when carrying my son, my libido was extremely high. When I was carrying my girls I could not be bothered with that side of things. Again its just my own theory, not doctor's advice or anything like that. Atm carrying another child and my libido is very low. I will find out the sex in a few months time so I will discover if what I have been thinking is true. Then again every single pregnancy is different. Oops I may have just started my own little old wives tale lol :p Good luck in whatever you are having as long as its healthy then the sex should not really matter surely :)

they dont like the same sex. so if ur neice was wanting to be around u and if u were to go by that tale then u would be having a boy. but its false it dont mean anything. just fun stuff to do.

I was searching for Old Wives Tales (just cause I am bored right now lol) and I came across a site that says something about the hairline of your first born, this only works if you already have a child.

1st born child hairline:

If the hairline of your 1st child goes straight across then your 2nd child will be the same gender as the 1st born.

If the hairline of your 1st child goes to a point then your 2nd child will be opposite gender as the 1st born.

It also says it works on the next child. So if you are pregnant with number 3 then you go off the hairline of your 2nd born, number 4 hairline off of 3rd born, etc.

Most people i know believe that if you carry big it's a boy and if it's a girl you carry small. I know this isn't true because i'm the opposite. Carried small with my first child, a son.Carried HUGE with my 2 girls. Carrying small again and the ultrasound confirmed it's a boy.



Had to go to the ER about a month ago due to a bad fall in the shower. Nurse there says there is a doc who SWEARS that the heartbeat thing works during the last month of pregnancy, but not before then. He apparently believes that it's due to the fact the baby is done growing and is only gaining fat by that point.



Decided to check that chinese calender that was posted. Says i should be having a girl, but i know it's a boy. Guess i fall into that 7%eh? Story of my life. I wanted a boy tho, so it's all good.

i've heard if you have morning sickness its a boy, if you carry low its a boy and if its high its a girl. im carrying low and had terrible morning sickness, im having a boy! so who knows these days lol. hope it goes well for you tho x x

Old wives tales are very misleading, but the one thing that i have seen to work is the chinese birth calender. it's 93% accurate and it has worked for everyone i have used it for and myself. here is a link to a calendar. all websites have to same calendar just different layout.

I've had 2 boys and now I am pregnant with a girl. I am carrying her very low as with the boys they were very high, with my boys I didn't look very pregnant but with this pregnancy I am carrying all out the front and look like i'm having twins. Hope that helps

i had a boy first and my pregnancy with him was perfect, hardly showed didnt get morning sickness, no hearburn, no major cravings, and didnt gain big amount of weight.



this time i had morning sickness, heartburn and suffering for the crazest cravings, and showing a lot more..



and we just found out where expecting a little girl..... i knew it. this pregnancy was way way to diffrent tto the 1st.

Yea I would have to say that the old wives tales are just that...tales. With both my boys, their heartrate said girl, my first son I was huge all over, I was carrying the same way my friend Natalie did (who had a girl) and it stinks that I have no instincts what so ever, haha. My first I had a dream that it was a boy and it was, my second I had no dreams and I thought it was a girl because that was what I wanted (we always wanted 3 kids and I wanted either boy girl boy,or girl boy girl - I thought it would be like a kiddie gender oreo, haha) but we had another boy, and with this one I have no dreams, but my sister had a dream where it was a girl (and every dream she has had about her own kids has been right). Though I think the heartburn thing might have some truth, because I had HORRIBLE heartburn with my first son, and like others, he had a huge head of hair when he was born. No heartburn with boy #2 and he was a baldy. So I'm just giving up trying to predict and just hoping for a healthy baby at this point, because I don't want to get "girl crazy" and then get bummed when I find out its another boy, :)

shooooot...i don't think any of us can rely on the tales! hahaha i had no cravings or morning sickness, but i had extreme heartburn toward the end of my pregnancy. i birthed a little girl with a head chock full of hair!

not that this helps you now, but my daughter looks just like me, & i was told that if a woman is in love while she's pregnant, the baby will look like her, but if she hates her partner during the pregnancy, then the baby will look like him. so far everyone i've talked to said they hated or felt ill-will toward the person their child ended up looking like (which was not always the dad, sometimes it was a grandparent). i'm the only person out of all my friends with a baby that looks like me (the mother, obviously, not me per se), & i'm the only one out of all those people who actually felt like a newlywed again during the pregnancy. lol so anyway, sorry, totally irrelevant, but it kind of ties in with the whole old wives' tale thing, doesn't it? :-D

Both my pregnancies were totally opposite. I have had morning sickness this time around, hot flushes, cravings and all signs point to a girl. However we are expecting another boy.

I have never believed in old wives tales when it comes to pregnancy . I have heard so many and so many people have sworn on this or that and were wrong .

They say it is common to have more morning sickness with a girl ..... I have had hyper-emesis with several of my kids both genders .

They do sell gender tests OTC , I do not know how well they work . I looked at one earlier in my pregnancy, but after reading about them, I found that I couldn't take it due to inaccuracy if taken with a pregnancy that was conceived with in 3 months of a miscarriage .

I really hope when the time comes for your all telling ultrasound that you can find out . I know it stinks waiting, but can be a really great way to cure the curiosity .

Our little boy has made his boyhood overly known ! LOL

If you are wanting a girl, I hope you have a beautiful, healthy , happy girl !

I had worst heartburn with my girls then with my boy. I carried all three the same up high probably because I am short and there is no room. I had lower back pain with my boy but not with my girls. The heart rate was higher with my girls then with my boy. My girls ran in the 170s and my boy it ran in the 150s.

They say the faster the heart beat its a girl, my babys heart beat was 176 bpm at my 10 week ultrsound, im thinking im having a girl. But who knows.....

none of the old wives tales are true every single one of them was wrong with my pregnancy the only one that is right is having heartburn your baby will have hair. I had bad heartburn and my baby boy was born with a full head of hair.

it's so hard to say. i was begging our 18 month old to tell me what we were gonna have before the ultrasound when i was pregnant w/our 2nd. lol! i had morning sickness w/our first - girl and didn't w/our second - girl. they both had huge heads of hair and i didn't have any heartburn. it's always a 50/50 shot, it's very annoying.

Brianna that is how I feel on this one. My first 10 years ago I had a feeling I was having a girl and I did. This time I can't listen to my body. Don't know if its because my husband keeps saying boy and my daughter keeps saying girl, it has me all messed up. But next week at my 19th week check we are having a ultrasound to find out the sex, so we will see who is right, my husband or my daughter.

Honestly when I take the tests sometimes I am kind of indifferent on certain old wives tales like what I am craving or other symptoms that I just don't have at all. I have the all front low belly can't tell I am pregnant from behind and no morning sickness, which indicates boy (which I am having), but also genetically that is how my mom also carried me and my siblings, so I partially just think it is genetics. It is kind of fun though to take those tests! Before I found out I was on tons of websites trying to figure out what I was having! Everyone was convinced it was a girl, but when I saw the 14 week u/s I just instinctively knew it was a boy and at 21 weeks they confirmed what I thought haha

Old wives tales can be true...they can be false....I think it's just luck of the draw really. According to the old wives tales...I am pregnant with a girl.......however.......they did the sonogram to make sure everything was ok & to see what we are having...turns out...I'm having a boy!! According to the old wives tale about the heart rate tho...I should have been having a girl! So I really think it's an up in the air thing. :)

I don't think I can believe in the old wives tales. 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was carrying her like I was pregnant with a boy, but she was a girl. I didn't have as harsh of morning sickness. All the signs was pointing towards a boy, even my husbands aunt that was pregnant the same time I was had all signs pointing towards boy, and we both had girls. This time around pregnant with my 2nd, all the signs point to boy again, carrying like its a boy but carrying the same way I did my daughter. We will find out May 5th if we are going to have another girl (which what my daughter wants) or a boy (what my husband wants).
