Cats and The Litter Box...

So I'm having some issues getting my fiance to clean the litter box out, even though he knows I'm not supposed to. Personally I want to get rid of the cats, I don't think they are going to be good once Carson gets here. I will tell him I'm gonna get rid of them if he doesn't start cleaning the litter box out. He will clean it right then and then wont clean it again until it starts to smell. I don't know what to do to get him to clean it out on a daily basis. I think it smells regardless of how clean it is, and I hate it. I don't know what to do. He wont let me get rid of them, and he wont clean the damn thing out. I know other people have had issues with this. My sister did, and ended up getting rid of her cats, which isn't an option for me. Someone please help me, I'm going crazy because I don't ask him to do any other cleaning around the house. Just the litter box and take the trash out!

My mother cleans my litter box once a week or more :) There is no way I could ever get rid of my cats.

my other half is gettin better at doin it... when i 1st found out i was preg i told him it was a no no but i dnt think he believed me so i phoned his mam and got her 2 have a word wit him about it. At 1st i had 2 remind him and ask him 2 change it over and over (but 2 be fair i think it was my nose being extra sensitive and the sickness) now he does it as soon as i ask him and hes even done it once witout being asked... gettin rid of my cat is outta the question iv had her for 12 yrs and i dont think she wud cope wit being moved as she is showin her age now

I have a hard time getting my guy to do it too... during the first pregnancy I lived with my sister and she did the litter when my b/f and I finally moved in our new house she would even come over to clean it for me ( I was one month to due and couldn't get down the stairs) this pregnancy I have 2 cats I love and even though my guy doesn't do it I do... with precaution. I wear latex gloves and a mask lol. and I wash like a surgeon after. Even though my dr doesn't love it She also thinks I am clever and that letting the cats piss on the carpet would be worse anyway.

so maybe this is going to come out cruel, but if your s/o, husbands what have you aren't doing the one thing pregnant women aren't suppose to touch, and they don't want to get rid of them...why not just let the cats outside to go? i mean i understand that having an indoor outdoor cat isn't always feasible but come on here, cleaning the cat box takes like 5 minutes if that?? i'm an animal lover but it's not like we are just pushing this chore on our mates because we just don't want to do it...it's a big no no. it's kinda like when your children are going to be here and they start having the responsibility of having a pet and taking care of it...(as much as their ages allow) are you going to just let it slide or are you going to be teaching choices and consequences. i hope this doesn't come off rude but it just seems like an open shut thing with me.

My husband has been really good with the litter boxes, surprisingly. It's feeding the dog that I have trouble getting him to do. It's strange because the cats belong to me and he knows I will clean it if he doesn't so he takes care of them. But then he wont feed the dog until real late at night and I feel bad because I don't think she gets enough to eat. So I have to lift that big freaking bag and then he yells at me. It happens about twice a week. But we are working with it. I just feel bad because I'm like, "did you do this and this and this" and I'm just standing there.

In regard to the cat boxes with lids, the only downfall with those is if the cat is large / fat or doesn't like enclosed spaces. You then run the risk of the cat going OUTSIDE the litter box and forming bad habits. If you have only the one cat, try having two litterboxes, one with a cover and one without. See which one is used more frequently and if the one with the lid is used just as often, you could switch over. The tricky things with cats (my aunt is a professional breeder of Cornish Rex) is that they are very finicky and do not like sudden changes. Sometimes a big change that makes sense to us will have an opposite affect on the cat. Overall, if you / your spouse is set on keeping the cat, just think of ways to transition it and everyone will be happy.

Hi I was in a similar situation. I brought our cat for my bf birthday and he loved it to bits I'm not really a cat person but I to fell in love with it to. We had a 3month old daughter at the time I told him if it ever touched her I'd get rid of it which it never did it was really good with her. I then found out I was pregnant with our second child and he had started becoming lazy cleaning out it's tray I did it a couple of times cause I couldn't stand the smell. After naging and naging him to do it I told him if he didn;t do it I would get rid of the cat while he was at work. For a while he was good but then got lazy again so I took the cat to a friends house and when he got home from work told him I found a new home for it and it was gone cause he hadn't been cleaning the tray of course there was a big fight over it. The next day I told him it was just at a friends house and brought it back but told him this was his last chance if he didn't keep it clean next time the cat wouldn't be coming back. It was hursh but it worked. A couple of months later tho we had to get rid of the cat due to moving but she's with a great family who are taking care of her.

you can get a cat box with a lid on it with a cat flap to get in and out....i got one of these to hide the smells a bit... i got rid of my cat before i had my baby though. but when we had the cat getting the other half to clean it was more trouble then it was worth lol

Again, similar issue here although the cat is mine and I wouldn't get rid of her for the world. But, I can't scoop the poo...we are lucky enough to actually have a roommate for the time being and he helps with the cleaning as well. Anyway, an option is to purchase a self cleaning box. They are a little expensive, but can be very worth it. We had one a while back which was damaged after it had water get into the mechanic parts when cleaning it. The sensor processes when the cat exits the box and an arm sweeps the clumps / poo into a container with a lid. Then you just dump the plastic container. Tell him to either start cleaning or spend the money! :-)

I'm in the same situation. The only 2 things I ask my hubby to do are clean the litter box and take out the trash. He usually does the litter box once a week (trash day) which I don't know about anyone else but my cat will stink up the HOUSE with his litter! He thinks I am crazy when I say that I can smell the litter when I am sitting in the living room. I nag and nag and nag and nag and complain about the smell constantly until he cleans it out. Still doesn't help. I don't know what to tell you. I would like to get rid of my cat... but he is a purebred Bluepoint Siamese and cost us $350 (in Hawaii) too pretty to get rid of and he is cute. I feel your pain I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.
