I had my litttle girl at 38 weeks & 5 days. She was 8 lbs & 15 oz. She sleeps for about 4-8 hours at a time (usually closer to 8). She only weighed 9 lbs & 12 oz at 1 month. She's doing better now for weight gain :) She loves to sit and stand and bounce (with help from mommy of course). She's quite the social butterfly too lol. Not looking forward to getting her shots :(

My daughter was 10 weeks early. 2lbs, 14oz. I had severe pre-eclampsia and placenta detachment. She is 3.5 now and in perfect health with a 5.9 y/o's intelligence, according to aptitude tests. Her heart valve was open for a few weeks and she had jaundice, stayed in the NICU for 2 months, but is in perfect health now and extremely active, although petite. My current baby will be born 3-4 weeks early, sometime in the next 10 days and weights 5lbs, 8oz now. Have had diabetes for 24 years and they deliver diabetics early anyway.

ALL of my children so far have been early. The first was 5 wks early, weighed almost 7 lbs, is perfectly fine now at almost 9 y/o. Our twins were 4 wks early, weighed in at 6lb13oz and 7lbs4oz, also perfectly fine and almost 7 y/o now. This time around, we are expected to delivery early again, because of past history and gestational diabetes. So far, baby is doing great.

Have you had yours or are you getting close to your date?

my sister had twins at 33 wks, they stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks and are on oxygen but they are ok....it all depends on the baby though. I spoke to a nurse and she said some babies are born at 26 wks and survive, then a baby that was only 2 weeks premature and it doesn't. But with technology these days chances are alot better than they used to be

I had my first son at 36 weeks because I had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia. He was 3lbs 14oz and 16 inches long at birth. He was in the NICU for 9 days then we took him home. Today he is 6 years old and ready for 1st grade. He is healthy and happy and right on track where he is supposed to be :)

My son was born at 37 and 3. The only problem he had was that he didn't want to wake up to nurse! It was hard in the hospital b/c they want them to nurse every 4 hours, but once my milk came in he was fine. He is 10 days old now and gaining weight like a champ! He was 7.2 and 19 3/4 and he came out CLEAN!!! He was totally ready. If i would have gone until my due date (8-5) he would have been about 9lbs!

My son came at 37 1/2 weeks, 8lbs 10oz! He was ready...they said if he would have gone to term (40 weeks) he would have been a 12lb kid! Since birth he has been in the 100+% for his age. But everything is/has developed fine. He's a very smart child. He's 18 months now and loving life and he has never been sick.

Just keep the communication open with your doc and everything should be fine!

I had our Son at 38 weeks and he was 5lb 4oz & 18" long. He has always been in the lower 10% on the growth chart, but has always had a continuous upward growth. He is now 6 1/2 years old and just started 2nd grade. He is perfectly healthly and extremely athletic.Being born 2 weeks early had not affected him in anyway.

My daughter was born at 37 weeks which is the cut off for what they consider full term. Laurie weighed 6lb 3.5 oz. She had a little trouble nursing because the sucking reflex is better developed at 38 weeks. She is 10 months now and very very active. She's still small for her age but I think she's just a petite build.

Marcus was born at 37 weeks, weighing in at 6lbs even. He is 13 months now and a little on the small side, he is only in the 25th% for weight, and about the 40th% for height. Otherwise he is doing fine. Just learned to walk and is consistently saying some words.

Yes I had my 3 year old at 36 weeks. He did great. Just pray and everything will be great. I have been in preterm labor since 22 weeks with this one and still holding strong. Good luck with the baby.

And my 26 weeker is now 8, and you would never know she was born that early unless we told you. She is right on track with everything!

They will be 4 in 2 weeks and are amazing. Neither one of them have any real health problems, although when they are pre mature dr.'s say they will be slightly behind until age 3. Good Luck im sure everything will be fine!

all 3 of ine were born before 39 weeks. my first was an induction at 38 weeks because she had growth restriction ( placenta was too small) she did fine from birth on other than slight jaundice( lots of babies get this). Second baby came on her own at 37 weeks and had no issues( other than slight jaundice).
Third baby came on her own at 38 weeks, but ended as an emergency csection because she breached herself. she had some issues, but it was from inhaling fluid when she was born because of the csection, and she also had jaundice, more severe than the others, but not from being early.

none of mine had any ill effects from being early.

37 weeks, as long as lungs are good to go, is technically considered Full Term if they come on their own. Drs wont induce unless you have issues though until at least 39 weeks. ( at least most wont without doing an amnio first.) i had kidney issues with my third and begged to be induced and had an amnio at 36 weeks but her lungs were not ok, so i had to eaither wait till 39 weeks, or till she came on her own, or repeat the amnio at 38 weeks. but she came on her own.

My daughter was born at 37 weeks. Weighed in at 5# 7 oz. and she was 18 inches long (or short, whichever term your prefer). =P She was slightly jaundice, but not enough to require medical attention and we had latching difficulties but other than that she's rediculously perfect.

Oh, and she had an extremely sensitive digestive track, which may or may not have had anything to do with being a little early.

She's going to be four months on the 13th and has already doubled her weight. =]

I know 2 people who just gave birth in early/mid may and they were both early. One had her boy at 33 weeks, he was 5 lbs and was on machines for a few weeks but was pretty healthy considering being 7 weeks early. And then my cousin just had her boy at 34 weeks, he was a little less than 4 lbs, and had bad jaundice, is still in the hospital (his gestational age is still only 37 weeks right now) but is doing good.

My daughter was born at 39 weeks at nearly 9 pounds and was perfect from the start, I'm so lucky, I hope I'm as lucky with this one to be able to make it to gestation.

My son Andrew who is 16 months today was born at 36 weeks and 2 days. We were lucky, he didn't need the NICU or any help with oxygen at all. He's a little small for his age, only weighing 16 lbs at 12 months, and his development is about a month behind but otherwise he's doing great. Our new baby will be born tomorrow and I'm 38 weeks this week.

My son came four weeks early (water broke at work :P). He weighed 6lbs, 14oz. Aside from some fluid in his lungs (c-section) and jaundice, he was healthy.
He is now 14 months old and is right on track. He is starting to walk and babbles to everyone.
So, while technically a premie (37 weeks is full-term), he came out just fine. There really wasn't a reason he was born early, we figure he was just done cooking! :D

Well I had my baby 2 weeks early she came out 5lbs 2.8 oz and now she is 3 months and since then her weight doubled she is now 12 pounds off of breast milk lol. I ask the doctor about babies that come out that early they still consider them full term so its good as long as they made it close to the 40 weeks
