Dilated to a 5 but no contractions help please

I have to agree with Katrice "WOW 5 cm and no pain" at 5 I was in so much pain! Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who deliver quickly. Goodluck and congrats!

Wow 5cm & no pain. Good for you, though frustrating. 37wks-42wks is deemed term, so from then onwards anytime is a great time to have your baby. I am hoping for you that by now you have had your baby or well on your way. Your doing all the right things. It took a LOT of pain & hours to get from 3cm to 10cm.

I bet it will be soon :) They did (at least) check baby's heart rate, your blood pressure and temperature though, right? Just to be sure everything is going smoothly for your baby :) If it is, naturally progressing labors are typically smoother and less painful than induced ones, so hang in there! I know at the end it feels like you'll be pregnant forever (at 42 weeks I REALLY felt that way), but it's truly not possible :)

still no baby, been 72 hours now, im still at home and still at a 5 im finally having some contractionsbut there very mild, apparently its the hospitals policy not to induce prior to 39 weeks unless the baby and i r at risk, they said were not so until im in active labor they cant help me out until nxt friday. ive been feeling like shes comming tho i really have my fingers crossed and im hoping these cramps stay consistant :)

Maybe you had him/her by now! I am a little more relaxed about it, because I think as long as baby and you are in good health (they should definitely check that - blood pressure, heart rates, your temp, etc) I think it's best for baby to come when ready.



I was over 2 weeks overdue with mine, so DEFINITELY sick of being pregnant, but committed to letting it progress naturally. It was VERY slow. I walked like crazy, had sex, and finally when I ate really spicy food my water broke. Still had to wait 26 hours for "active" labor to start, then it was another 14 hours before he was born. It was a very smooth, peaceful, and "bearable" labor. I should add that I did have him at home, with a midwife, so she didn't check my dilation until just before he was born. She was just ready for him to come whenever he was.



I think it's best to labor at home as long as possible (if baby and you are doing well) since once you are checked in at the hospital you are on their "clock," and if you don't progress regularly and quickly they will ask to induce you or (eventually) ask to perform a c-section. Of course you should do what you feel comfortable with :) Good luck!!! Update us when he/she is born, please!!!

With my first, i was getting contractions and no pain. I dilated from 2cm to 9cm in 2 contractions. It can happen that fast. And if you have lost your plug, omg you could end up delivering your baby yourself. Tell them to help you have your baby. Good luck and be firm

yeah i agree with the other ladies. You need to go right back to the hospital. Some women experience NO labor pains at all!!! If you are one of the lucky few, then you dont want to take any chances. Ive have 3 kids, and only had light light contractions with one. I went to the hospital with light period like cramps, and found out I was in full blown labor and dilated to a 6. I wouldnt have bothered going to the hospital, but something told me to go ahead and go. I was 42 weeks pregnant then. My other pregnancy i delivered at 38 weeks with my first, 42 with my second, and 40 weeks with my 3rd. So!! Good luck to you!!!!

At 4cm my dr sent me to the hospital to check and see if they could either stall labor or start it. (I'm high risk and they didn't really want me to labor that early, 37wks) They broke my water and he was born 22 hours later.

I probably wouldn't wait too much longer because you could be contracting and dilating without painful contractions. Good luck! And I'm hoping for a good labor for you!

It shouldn't because a baby can be born anytime between 37 and 42 weeks. dont let the hospital push you around becuase they'll just keep sending you home, be firm with them that your ready to have your baby. your 38 weeks their is no reason why you can't.

At 5 cm dilated with even a few contractions they should break your waters. Anything past 4 cm is active labor, I'd be going back to the hospital and telling them i wasn't going anywhere until this baby was born. I had trouble dilating so they kept sending me home and then when i got to 4cm they broke my waters but because my son should have been born hours before it caused alot of problems, he was distressed and i had a vaccume birth, and that was just the start of it. So if i was you, i wouldn't be at home waiting..
