Over the last few days I've been getting really bad acid reflux (usually at night) and is very painful, just wondering if its another "lovely" symptom of pregnancy or not..

yup.. lovely it is.. try using pillows behind you to sleep nearly sitting up.. keeps the tummy below the throat.. and some people, including a curently expecting friend, get prescriptions for this while prego.

I feel for you! I have REALLY bad acid reflux... try not to eat too soon before you go to sleep since you say that later on at night is when its happening.. That seems to help quite a bit!

I had terrible heartburn in my first pregnancy but not at all with this one. It's completely normal, so don't worry about it.

It probably is another symptom of pregnancy I find my Acid reflux is worse at night when my little one is moving around the most. Tums and zantax have helped me out in the past with my first pregnancy but then again with my second pregnancy Tums seems to help. The old wives tale about acid reflux and hair was certainly true for my first pregnancy as my daughter had a full head of hair and never lost it. Her hair is now halfway down her back at just 12 months.

I had acid reflux all the time. I noticed some things I ate were the cause of it. Try to watch what you eat when you get it and try not eating whatever it is. I know when I had cheese flavored crackers I got it badly.

Yup!! I take a tiny sip of water and boom there it is. I don't even have to eat anything spicy to get it. It just happens. And Tums rarely helps. The wive's tail isn't always true though, with my first, I had heartburn from 2 months till the day she was born and that kid had no hair. lol

i have had really bad heartburn along with acid reflux since the middle of my second trimester. i would spend hours of my night and morning throwing up and taking hot showers to relax my chest and relieve the pain. my dr recommended for me to take prilosec every day, and also sleeping in a more of a sitting position as high as you can handle really helps, even if you can only stand to be in that position for half of the night, also i've found that eating earlier in the evening and not eating things that trigger heartburn help.

yes this is very common, it happens because one of the pregnancy hormones relaxes all the muscule, and your stomach moves up to make room for baby,

Yes, it is very common. I have had it off and on throughout the 2nd & 3rd tri (i'm currently 32 weeks)...most often at night. Not eating a few hrs before bed, and elevating your head/back with an extra pillow will help. Your doctor may also recommend an over the counter resolution like Prilosec or Zantac.

Heartburn definitely is a symptom. I am on pregnancy #2 and with both, I started getting terrible heartburn by 8 weeks. Zantac helps me most. And there actually is truth to that "wives tale" about heartburn and hair!
If you are really having terrible reflux, ask you dr and they may give you a RX that will help more.
The good thing about pregnancy induced heartburn is that it pretty much goes away after baby! I did still have heartburn occasionally after, where I NEVER had before my pregnancy.
