Due Date Confusion

Every time I go for an ultrasound they tell me that my daughter is about a week early from the original estimated due date. They never really knew when I conceived because I didn't have periods. They based everything off of her original size. I have always felt I was farther along then when the doctor told me. How should I approach the doctor about moving my due date up?

well my Doctors told me the same thing. my last period was June 5th and Lasted til the 8th not normal for me. OK so I get a pregnancy test done July 31st they said 7 weeks. OK i understood that. then October 31st my first ultrasound they said I was 18 weeks. OK im like but shouldn't I be 20 weeks. then November 28th they said I was 19 weeks. IM LIKE WHAT i was 18 weeks a month ago what is going on. OK December 11th im told im 22 weeks im lost and confused. I really need to know when my baby is due.. I really hate this and shouldn't I be around 27 weeks and 2 days? my due dates are march 13th, march 19,th April 4th, and April 7th 2013

I had the same thing at the start of this pregnancy. When I first went into the doctor he told me I was 5 weeks along, and when I went in for my first ultrasound I was actually 8 weeks along. Then when I went in for my last doc apt I was measuring two weeks ahead of where I really was. And last night I went in for my 18 week ultrasound the little one is only measuring 2 days ahead of the due date they pinned down for him.

Thank you all very much for your input. I still think I am farther along then what they originally thought, but I am not going to stress out about it anymore. I am just telling everyone who needs to know to be prepared between April 13 and April 20th. I do know that I was born exactly on my due date and so was my mother, so we shall see.

Due dates are fairly meaningless unless you and your health care provider are interested in induction or planned C-section. I have been told, by childbirth educators and my doctor with my first baby, that you want the latest due date you can get because at 40 weeks most doctors will start talking induction. Many pregnancies will continue on naturally past 41 weeks and some even after 42 weeks (my sister was one of those:)). If your due date is set way early because your baby is bigger than average, then your health care professional may start talking induction even though in terms of time in the womb he is not yet ready. The advice I was given if dealing with a doctor was take the latest date you can get to give your baby the most amount of time in the womb.

With my first son i jumped from September 15th to August 20th. I asked the ultrasound technician at my last ultrasound with him what my actual due date was because of all the confusion and she told me August 25th. Then i went to see my obgyn at 7 months and she argued with me that the ultrasound technician was wrong and i was due September 15th. i switched obgyn's shortly after (lucklily she went on vacation and i got transferred to another) and i had no problems with that one, he agreed fully on the ultrasound technician and my son was actually born August 25th, 2006 :) I'm having baby number 2 now due June 26th, 2010 another boy and refused to see the first obgyn, i went with the one who delivered my first son because she seemed nice and funny :) I haven't had a period since April last year and found out at 5 weeks i was pregnant via bloodwork. i got sent in for a ultrasound 3 weeks later due to the missed periods and not knowing when i was going to be due and i found out i was 8 weeks then. i had another ultrasound yesterday that said it was a boy and that one is right on target with the first.

I have a similar situation. According to my periods I am due May 5th, but ultrasound says May 16th. I know that it isn't the 16th because I would have had to conceive the last weekend in Aug and I had a positive pregnancy test Sept 1st. I also know that we didn't have sex when they say I conceived either. I brought it up to my doc and they don't seem to care so I just let them go with what they want and will wait to see when she comes (hopefully closer to the 5th:)

If you didn't have a period to help date when you got pregnant it is very common to change due dates. The size of the baby is then what they would use to date the pregnancy, but if your baby is small/big that could confuse as well. Dont be too concerned the closer you get to the actual event they will be able to pin point a more acurate date. But the chance of giving birth on that date is slim, it's all up to your body and the baby.

The same with mine. My due date is March 28 but ultrasounds show March 21. I think they only move it if its ten days out, like someone else mentioned. Its not really a big deal, because everyone is different. You may want to ask your doc to let you know about around what day to expect. He can't really give you an exact answer--for every pregnancy is different. It varies...some women go only 36 weeks, some go a full 42. So changing a due date that only has a week difference isn't necessary, for it's only a small percentage of change that the baby will come on that exact day. Good luck..(:

My sonographer thought I could be due a week earlier than my official due date, but my dr. said they will only change it if the growth looks like more than 10 days out.

My Dr. says I am due March 13th, but I had an ultrasound at 6 wks and they said it looked like the first week of March but before that when I went to the health department they said that based on my last period the date was Feb 28th....I haven't really asked the Dr. about it, I just go with what he says. He didn't tell me why it changed, i guess it was based on my baby's size. (Maybe I am just having a small baby)... Everyone asks me if they are sure I'm not further along based on my size...I guess I could be! He could probably come any day now!
