Iam 29 weeks pregnant and my babies father has been around for maybe 3 months out of the whole thing. The rest he has ran around with a new girl and has just caused so much stress and drama for me to deal with. And I have been told to just give my son my last name. Was wondering if I could get some of y'alls points of view or how you felt with it if you had a situation like mine. I'd love to hear your thoughts and stories!

Give your baby your last name. I made the mistake of giving my now 2 1/2 yr old son his father's last name and have regretted it since my son was 10 months old and his father left our lives. I plan on changing his last name to mine before he starts school. Good Luck! :)

Thank you ladies! I think I am going to give him mine just seems easier n in my eyes if his dad had stepped up n showin support n not ran when the going got tough then I'd prolly give dads name. But he has no interest nor has made life easy during this huge life change so why give him the pride of passing on his name. I really appericate all of your opinions lets me know I'm not alone in this!!

My son is 8 yrs old, his father has never been there, I put my last name on his birth certificate. I wanted him to have the same last name as me. I am now pregnant with #2 from a different guy. While this guy is much better and will be there to help me, I am not married to him and do not want the baby to have his last name, I want all of my kids name's to match. Child support does not care what name the baby has, paternity can be established and the child will be taken care of regardless of which last name you pick. I would advise you to give your child your last name, just my personal opinion.

If the dad is not going to be apart of the childs life, and the family of the dad is much like the same or you have no contact with them, then you can give that child your last name..
If child support is going to be an issue, or paternity if dad is claiming child is not his, then you have to decide if the child needs to carry the fathers last name for legal purposes..at the least..or the child may have to be tested for paternity..(if this is or could be an issue for you).

If the babies dad is not a part of your lives then I would give it your last name. It is easier when it comes time for school registration and other activities if you and your little one have the same name.
