I was not going to get the H1N1 shot. I felt that there was not enough testing done on it for me to go out and get it for myself. Then i became pregnant. My feelings didnt change and i was only going to get the regular flu shot like i did with my first daughter but my dr basically told me i HAD to get it. Im sure i could have fought him, but he was my obgyn for my first pregnancy and i have never seen him so adamant about something. so i caved.

I'm not going to get it. I had an appt to get it today and I couldn't decide if I should or shouldn't so I called my hubby and he said if you're undecided don't do it. I just don't want to risk it hurting my baby. Plus I talked to my mom today and she said that she read an article that was saying some of the H1N1 Vaccine is being recalled. I guess my and my hubby's parent instincts are kicking in. ;-) I'm just going to sanitize like crazy! They say the best way to ward it off is by washing your hands/using sanitizer.

I'm 24 week's.My Doctor wanted me to get the h1n1 also..I told him NO! I have done research and there has been deaths of the mother's as you said. But a woman was 8 1/2 month's and lost her baby. She didn't die.But the baby did.So I said NO! The Doctor's don't know what will happen to your baby. What if it causes birth defects or stillborn? I did not want to take the chance! Hope this helps you out! Good luck! :D

I'm not getting it!! They are not going to give me a drug that hasn't been properly tested on anyone, let alone pregnant women!! Just so they can tell me that it causes cancer or birth defects or something crazy like that!!! I would rather wear a mask all day long in public places!!! Remember the yaz pill ladies, (for birth control) everyone I know was talking about it and now they have all these issues surrounding it. I wouldn't recommend anything that a doctor can't even give you a straight answer on. What are we gonna do if our children come out with fingers on their foreheads. A lawsuit isn't gonna suffice!!! DON'T DO IT!!!!

Quoting melissa:

I am just as worried as u are I have a 5 year old with asthma and I am 4 months pregnant with my second child I am more scared for my son then my self but my family dr has told me that he will not be giving it to his children and my friend is also pregnant and her ob advised her not to get it as well just because it is so new. I know people have died from this flu but people also have had reactions from the shot and have died as well. it is a very tough decision but I feel that if u take good care of ur self and wash ur hands alot and eat healthy u should be fine and if u get any flu like symptoms go directly to your dr or the emergency room and they can test u on the spot and if u end up catching it in time they have antibiotics but alot of the deaths no offense to any one is peoples stupidity like not keeping hydrated or not eating or keeping the fever down I am not saying that this is most cases but in alot of them that is the case. I have been told that this is just like the seasonal flu just a little bit stronger it is just that people are making a big deal out of it but people die from the regular flu as well so it is a very hard decision and what ever decision u make it has to be yours because u will have alot of people for it and a lot of people agianst it. just take care of ur self and keep fluids and vitamin d in u and good luck

Yes, most cases of the swine flu have been very mild. My whole house ended up sick. We are not positive that it was swine flu but everyone had the symptoms and I am 6 months pregnant. It is a mater of taking care of yourself keeping hydrated and keeping healthy food down washing hands and keeping everything sanitized. Make sure if you are pregnant you brake your fever as soon as possible and go immediately to the drs if it reaches 101. Anyone who is not pregnant can go until 103-104 before you have to worry about it. You dont hear about most of the cases because people are not going to the drs. What you hear on the news is the worst part of it. Of course some people are going to die from a new disease. And if you let your self be exposed to it slightly you will grow an immunity to it as well as your unborn child will.

I have decided not to get the shot. My younger sister ended up in the hospital overnight after getting the shot. I am kind of worried about my child being unprotected from it after being born, but I feel much better not getting the shot.

I was worried as well. I'm 38 weeks pregnant now. I did immense research on this topic, including consulting many friends that are doctors. I almost never get sick. I think I've had the flu maybe once in my life and only a few colds. However pregnancy weakens your immune system so it may not be as easy to fight off if you come in contact with a new strain, such as H1N1. The potential complications could be fatal for you and the baby. To me, that risk is just too great.

As far as mercury, there is no link between autism and Thimerosol in the flu shots (you can look up the study information on the CDC's website). If that is what concerns you, you can try and find the Thimerosol free versions. They use it as a preservative in the multi dose vials (which is what a lot of places use). The single dose vials are harder to find, but are Thimerosol free. Again though, there is no link to it and autism.

I agree about it being a new vaccine that came out very quickly. That makes me nervous too. However, they've been making flu shots forever and they're perfectly safe. The H1N1 vaccine is said to be made the same way. And it's not a live virus. The live virus is in the nasal spray which is NOT given to pregnant women.the shot is a dead virus, just like the regular flu shot.

Remember too that the H1N1 is a new strain you're probably not already immune to. When your baby is born, he/she will only be immune to what you're immune to. If he/she catches H1N1, it could again be fatal. If you get the shot now, it will provide some immunity to your baby after he/she's born as well.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you can live with your decision.
Good luck to you :)

I'm not concerned too much with the immediate side effects of the H1N1 shot. It's the long term implications on the baby - anyone who has gotten the shot while preganant probably hasn't given birth yet and there haven't been any tests run on babies whose mothers have gotten the swine flu vaccine. The seasonal flu shot has been around long enough so it has been thoroughly tested. I'm just wary of how fast this swine flu shot was put together and distributed. I'm going with my gut and just doing my best to avoid coming in contact with it and keeping my hands as clean as possible.

They can give you the shot with out the mercury. Its the same shot that they give children under 5. You just have to ask for it. It is safer. I havent gotten mine yet and as well am still undecided on getting it.

I also got the regular flu shot and at my last doctors appointment i asked my doctor what he thought about teh H1N1 shot ,because my husband told me that he doesnt want me to get it, and he told me that if I were his wife he wouldn't want me to get it either. I was really concerned about getting swine flu too but since its a respiratory flu just keep an eye out and try to keep yourself and your other children away from anyone who is sick. If you get a cold just go into the doctor and have them run the tests that need to be ran to check for swine flu, if caught early enough they can treat it. A friend of mine is pregnant and due around xmas time and she was having chest pains and trouble breathing, turned out it was swine flu, she was in the hospital for two days and she is out and her and the baby are still fine and shes continuing to carry to term. The regular flu shot also protects from the respiratory flus and thats what swine flu is.

I hope this was helpful. let me know. good luck

I am 10 weeks pregnant and just got the H1N1 shot and have had no adverse reactions from it. I was with everyone else originally with I have never had a flu shot and didn't plan on getting this one but after talking to my doctor and family members they all recommended me getting it, I also got my two kids vacinated. I want to stay healthy for my kids they need me so if this is going to help me to do this then I don't want to take chances. There are always going to be warnings for not getting it and also warnings for getting it but it is up to you to believe in God to watch out for you and make the best decision for you and your family. Best of luck with your decision. Also my kids have had no reactions to the vaccanations either, they have both continued to be healthy.

I've been confused on this as well. I got the seasonal one and I asked the nurse what she thought. She didn't think it was a good idea and advised me against it...many people rushed to get their daughters that HPV virus when it first came out and some of those girls ended up with seizure disorders from it. Her point that it was so new that she was leery of it. My OB recommended that I get it, but she really couldn't give me a good reason why I should except that the CDC recommends it. At least one and maybe a second student in my school have gotten the swine flu and so far I am fine. To protect myself I just wash my hands, have tissues available to the kids, hand sanitizer for all when they enter the room and I clean my desks and door knobs daily with disinfectant wipes. So far so good. Starting my 29th week and feel great.

I got the h1n1 @ my ob/gyn yesterday, I am almost 32 wks, I talked to my dr. about it and also read all the paperwork they had on it, the virus is dead in the shot that they give you, and all the findings they have done shows no link between the vaccine and autism, I have heard on the news and read many articles in the paper about pregnant women dying from this virus and I figured it was worth it, also I had no side effects other than a sore arm.

I got the shot they just ind of gave it to me but i'm fine you may feel icky for a day or two just like any other shot but me and my baby are fine and best of all I'm one of the few people I know who haven't gotten sick yet this year. It won't hurt you or the baby or the doctors wouldn't give it to you in my opinion.

My dr said that there is no link between mercury and autism. More prago women are getting mercury free shots and the percentage of babies born with autism has gone up. My dr. also said that if it was ready in time, it would have been part of the regular flu shot.

I just got the H1N1 shot yesterday, (Also got my 1.5 year old the shot as well), I feel so much more safe now that I was able to get it. If I wasn't prago I would not have gotten the shot as I am healthy, and if my son was a few years older and I knew how he would handle getting sick then I probably wouldn't give him the shot either. It's good to get sick, it helps your body heal, however when it's something that could endanger your unborn child, it's hard to say no to it.

If your not object to shots, I say go for it if you can find it! I just read an article about it, and it has been tested, but some people don't think it was tested enough, that's why your hearing so much about people "testing" it.

I also have a 2.5 year old and she will never get the H1N1 or a reg Flu shot. My doc did ask me if I wanted to get it but I told him that plan to just be healthy, and thats all you can do!

I am in the same boat as you. I am 31 1/2 weeks leaving in Canad and may expecting my first child. My husband and I are in the same situation as you as what harm it might cause the baby. I have decied to wait for the unadvanted want I am not sure if they are offering that what where you live but in NB this was the one that was suppose to be for pergant woman and it will be avaiable where I live in the middle of Nov. I hope this hleps you. I just look at it as I want to do the best for my baby and I would never be able to live with myself if I or my husband brought the flu home to him or her. As far as mercury the doctors in NB are saying that there is more mercury in a can of tuna then the shot I wouldn't be worried about that causing autsim. I hope this has offered you some help.

I just got the shot the other day because I know that around the area i live in there has been alot of people with the H1N1 flu and I don't want to take the risk of catching it. I read plenty on the pros and cons and decided that it was ok for me to take. This is my 4th pregnancy and I couldnt take the risk that i get sick and something happens to me leaving my other children without me. The H1N1 shot for pregnant woman is mercury free. At least that is what I was told by my family Dr. They have a separate one for pregnant woman verses everyone else. I will probably get it because my pregnancy is just starting. Good luck!

I am going tomorrow morning to get both of the shots and I will re-post on here after a few days to update you on how I am feeling. With the swine flu spreading like it is I don't want to chance losing or harming my baby, but believe me I am really scared about it too!

I got flu shots when I was pregnant both times before. (Kinda had to in the military and I had no choice) but I had no adverse reactions to it. As for the H1N1 I am going to get it as well. I watched the show The Doctors yesterday and they recommended it strongly for every one especially pregnant women. One thing they said on there that scared the crap out of me was that 6% of deaths from H1N1 were pregnant women and that pregnant women only make up 1% of the population!

There is mercury in the H1N1 shot, but it's less than the amount consumed when we eat fish, so that shouldn't be a worry. I talked to my ob/gyn about this because he told me I should get it too. Basically there aren't too many differences between the regular fly and H1N1. The main difference that is causing so many problems is the aggressiveness of the H1N1. It comes on quicker without warning and hits its hardest right away. As far as the vaccines go, the H1N1 vaccine is just a slightly tweaked versin of the regular flu shot so its able to deal with the added aggressiveness of the H1N1. I hope this helped! After finding this out I've decided to get it for myself and my son. Good luck :0)

I am really undecided at this point. I feel the same about it as you do. I went ahead and did the flu shot but am just not sure on the H1N1 at this point. Seems like with it only being out for three months, I would like more information on it. What do other mom's think?
