I am 14 weeks pregnant with my 2nd. Lately I have been having some really bad headaches, a couple times it actually made me sick because it was so bad. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

i started doing water aerobics and my head aches have subsided!!! It may be because my blood is now circulating more in my body, im not sure tho

I talked to my dr. and he said that it was probably change in hormones and low blood pressure together. He suggested I try to drink a lot of water and rest when they get bad and see if they get better, and they actually did. The pain didn't go away, but I have been able to tolerate it without meds, other than tylenol every so often when it gets real bad. Of course that is just my case, I'm sure, as here, there are many women who were in more pain. It's always best to ask the dr. and see what they can suggest. Thanks, ladies, for helping me with this question.

Yes... OMG it was bad. Around the same time too. I talked to my doctor about it and she told me that it was from the change in hormones. Crazy, she perscribed me a pain killer cause my headakes got so bad for days at a time. It totally helped. Now im 28 weeks prego and i dont get them. Dont suffer though take something if it get so bad you cant function.

Im 20 weeks pregnant and i also experience insane headaches, ive never had migraines in my life but thats what i would relate theses too, ive tried everything i figured maye its because i cut back on sugar but that didn't change it, my dr said i wasn't hydrated enough but i drink 3-4 liters of water a day and if i drink more my eyes are gonna be floating in my head. Im not sure of what to do about them. im learning to live with them, but it makes for a very hard day

I have a constant headache. Sometimes it's not that bad, but there are days when it takes everything i have to get an ice pack and then head back to bed. Migraines run in my family, so I'm not really surprised that I'm having them while I'm pregnant.

If they continue and if you're on any meds for it and it doesn't get better, try an ice pack and if you can a quiet dark room. If an ice pack seems to make it worse try a heating pad. I know someone who needs heat when she gets a migraine.

Hope you feel better soon.

Totally!!! I get terrible migraines, and when I'm pregnant, they are 10 times worse. I've ended up in the ER once because of it. It was during my 2nd pregnancy. I was throwing up non stop for 5 days, and couldn't hold anything down. I was so worried about my baby. I had to get a shot of Demerol to stop the headache. It's normal to get really sick when it happens too. Since all I can use is Tylenol, it doesn't really help at all. I would say if they become extremely bothersome, talk to your doc. They might be able to offer up some kind of advice, or maybe give you a prescription that is safe during your pregnancy to help with the headaches.

i get them a lot too and im only 22wks pregnant. the only thing i can suggest that help me is just try to drink like a coffee cup full of water and if u can lay down in a quiet room with a cool or warm washcloth(the temp varies for me on some days) on your forehead. it generally helps me relax the tension away. or just helps you to take a nap cause you may not be getting enough sleep for your body since your still in first trimester. hope it helps.

Yah, I get really bad migraines whilst pregnant.

Its hard to keep your water intake up, especially when you have MS.

Luckily this time around, I dont have vision loss also, which hit me HARD in the last pregnancy.

Hey there. I am also 14 weeks with my second child. I get really bad migranes that last for days at a time and do get sick with them also. I have had to go to the hospital to get rid of one that wouldn't go away it had lasted for four days straight. I just had to stay in bed. Sometimes a cold wet cloth and taking a nap will help. With pregnancy the docs usually say that you can only take tynelol but if they are gettting that bad talk to your doc because there are some meds pregnant women can take safely that will help with the headaches you just have to make them do it. I have to go to the doc on Thursday and I am going to tell them they have to find something for me because being in school I can't miss bunches of classes because I have a headache. Hope this helps a little and you can find something for those headaches. keep me posted on how things go.

I'm 15w5d and I too have been having very bad headaches, and a migraine almost weekly right now. I was already a migraine sufferer before I got pregnant, and from what my doctor has told me..migraine sufferers are really in for in it because all of the hormones just bring them on more often. Have you suffered from migraines in the past? I know there's a big difference between a pounding headache and migraines, but you said you've been sick from the pain, that's why I asked about the migraines. My OB/GYN gave me Butalbitol for mine, and it works great. It's only safe up until about 24 weeks though. Another option you could ask about, also only safe during trimester 2, would be Fioricet. (Which is basically the same thing as Butalbitol) Good luck with everything and congrats!

Yes they can be very much hereditary. My mom, dad, sister, and brother have them. You can't use anything to prevent them really. One really good tool is to keep a journal/chart of what you're doing each day, especially the foods you eat. Food is the most common trigger. My biggest trigger is too much dairy, especially cheese. And being dehydrated is my second most common trigger. If you're a caffeine drinker, and then go a day without it, that can happen. But caffeine can also trigger a migraine so it's best to ween yourself off slowly. Migraines are very tricky, especially while pregnant so I'd do the journal/chart for a week and see what you find. Don't forget to write down when you eat things and then what time you get a headache. You might see a pattern. But I would still talk to your doctor, they'll have even more helpful ideas.

I don't normally have migraines, but my sister does. I explained them to her and she said that they sound similar to what she has experienced and said that hers were also worse with her two pregnancies. Also, I have heard that migraines can be hereditary, so my sister having them might mean I am higher risk. I haven't asked my dr yet, they just recently started, but plan on asking him if they keep up. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid them before they start? I've heard that is the best way to stop them before they get very bad. Any ideas would help. Thanks

Yes. I suffer from migraines while not pregnant so during pregnancy they're worse because I'm unable to treat them with medicine strong enough to get rid of them. And migraines can make you very sick. Do you know if these headaches you're having are migraines? Have you asked your doctor?
