How to beat the summer heat
Ashley - posted on 06/11/2010
drink a tonne of water, but not super cold water as your body actually has to work harder to warm the water to body temp. Just above room temp is perfect. Also during my first pregnancy I used to make frozen fruit smoothies and lived on them! oooh and a small wading pool in the yard with an umbrella and fan feels amazing!
Good Luck! hopefully you don't turn into a shrew in the heat like I did :P

I'm a total advocate for being outside ... so, lots of water, popsicles are good too, watermelon, handtowels that can be wet and draped around your neck or across your lower back to help cool you down, the water spray bottles are great as well and easy to be refilled and wear as little clothes as you feel comfortable in. This is my second time through the summer (in fact, he's due on my oldest's 10th birthday so the same EXACT time line as the first) but at least this time I am living in a cooler climate overall than before. My first was in Texas and now I'm outside Cincinnati. Good luck! Most of us will be enduring along with you!

I feel your pain. I am due August 24 and work in an office with no AC, and my car doesn't have AC either. I can get quite crabby around 3, but I just have a fan on me at all times, drink ALOT of water and take in as much central air I can when at home!! Just STAY HYDRATED and maybe think about bringing some ice packs.

I'm due in a couple of weeks now, and am soooo glad I won't have to deal with the hottest months! The past couple of months have been almost unbearable as the weather started to get warm. I try to stay in the air conditioning as much as possible, and, when that still won't cut it - lots and lots of popcicles!! I've also, on the hottest days, dipped a washcloth in a bowl of ice water and used the cold cloth on my face, neck, arms, etc... to cool off.

I know the feeling, when I was due in May all winter I kept opening the windows I was so warm! I'm due in Oct so I'm a little worried a bout the heat too. What has worked for me in the past on really hot days is to stay indors and dress cool (LOTS of sunscrean, you will bburn quickly from what I've heard). And if you have ice put it on the insides of your wrist, it will help cool you down.

If there is enough shade, I take my toddle outside and fill up his baby pool. He plays and I sit in my covered swing with my feet in the water. Lots of cold water, green tea, and watered down juice are good to. I'm also obsessed with freeze pops, too lol. I'm due at the end of August and the humidity has been unbearable for me!

Buy a table fan! It is horrible in the heat even more so when you far into the pregnancy .. I had same problem last year with my little girl being born in august & this year i'm pregnant with another little girl & she's due in july. It seems almost impossible to stay cool when the heats bad. The table fan helped me loads, hated nights though as didn't have fan on during night as was scared dog would knock it over or something & had alot of sleepless nights.

I would have to agree with all the ladies, I'm 20 weeks and have a 3 1/2 yo daughter and a 2 yo son. They love to spend time outside and I sit in the shade and let them play. We set up a kiddie pool in the back yard and most times my feet find their way in of their own accord, LOL. Drink lots of water, stay indoors as much as possible, wear as little clothes as u are comfortable in and EAT LOTS OF POPCICLES. I have been prego through summer with all 3 now and popcicles are a life saver. Good Luck and stay cool!

I live in Phoenix Az and its been 115 here the past few days! I am 32 weeks, and I have a 2 year old! We have been going to the pool, and staying inside. listen there is nothing more unbearable than being hot and sweaty! Remeber to drink enough fluids, and stay cool. Walk the mall, or target, whatever, but dont over do it. If you have to be outside make sure you are drinking drinking drinking!!! You dont want to go into labor!

I'm a little over 27 weeks. I'm always hot, even in winter snow! So right now, I hate the heat. I've been restricting myself to staying inside a lot more, drink tons of water, and don't care what others think I should wear... If I want to wear a tank top and shorts, I am! But, hopefully the time just goes by quickly and the heat doesn't get too much worse. Best of wishes!
