I had to cut cow milk products out because of the heartburn, it made a huge difference. I switched to soy and did fruit smoothie shakes ect. It was great and really healthy, my daughter is now 11 months and in perfect health.

OH yeah and Sleepy time tea by Celestial seasonings. It calms you and through ginger and peppermint aides in the digestion of food.
Hahaha! Have I mentioned heartburn is all about your digestive track.

I had heartburn BAD! Nothing relieved it 100% but there is a lot you can do to ease it up. Eating habits: ease up on dairy, spicy foods and eating 30 minutes prior to laying down. Exercise, even if just walking in place for 15 minutes, just to help get your digestive system moving. When laying down, lay on left side to help your digestive track and even better with one or both legs bent up.I know this sounds crazy, but gently but firmly massage your belly, try and feel where the baby is and massage him or her out of the way of your right side. Your right side is where your stomach empties into your gall bladder and digestive track, if this flow is interrupted you get heartburn. And last medication you can take Zantac. Outside of all this you are just pregnant and trust me it is worth it. : )

With my 1st pregnancy I was taken Ranitidine it worked great and with this baby it wasnt working so my doctor gave me omeprazole it works great the 1st day I took it NO HEARTBURN at all, you only have to take the pill once a day.

I suggest hot tea. i had wicked bad heartburn with my son he is about 11 months old and it worked great! This pregnancy the heartburn has come sooner then it did with him but the tea still works prefect. tums and malanta did nothing for me and also be careful with those if you get a uti at all because u cant take them if you are on an antibodtic. Ive seen alot of people saying milk is a good idea but i know with me it just made it worse because of the high fat content. Hope this helps!

My dr suggested zantac 150 mg twice a day.. and said I can use tums in between if needed... i had to do that on top of watching my diet. Diet alone did not do anything to help me. I have to drink a lot of water too...

I am also a major heart burn sufferer... and its worse at night when its time to sleep... and I cant! :(
diet really didn't help me.. I get HB with even the plainest of foods, even regular water would spark it.
What helps the most is a light snack before bed, I always go for either low sugar fruit cocktail or a banana (my cravings lol), a small glass of milk and if all else fails... baking soda!

Its super gross.. but I swear it works.. it just makes you burp a lot at first. I measure out 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda and dissolve in a small glass of water and just chug it down. Its almost instant relief.. but I only do it as a last resort, only before bed type deal because of the high sodium. 1) too much you will swell/retain lots of water and 2) high levels of sodium can effect blood pressure

I know a lot of people have talked about diet being important and I agree some things make it worse.. they are all differrent for everyone, but for me I have heartburn daily no matter what I eat! My ob/gyn said I could take Zantac 150 twice a day that has helped a bunch, I just buy the equate/off brand and on the days when the heartburn breaks through still I just take a couple tums... my dr said that was fine. At night when it flares up I keep water by my side and just prop myself up on lots of pillows til I can fall back asleep. I am 32 weeks and its been going on for about 6-8 weeks, but its under control most the time now with what I have been doing. Hope that helps.

If you can, trying drinking a small glass of milk. It helps me every time that I am feeling my heartburn coming on. It might not completely eliminate it but, it definitely does help quite a bit :)

Zantac 150...it is a pill you can take every 12 hours so you can never have to feel the heartburn at all. It saved my life in my first pregnancy...luckily this time around, I have less heartburn. Have your doc write you an Rx for it...over the counter is expensive but you can get the generic form at the pharmacy for $4 for 60 pills.

If it gets worse there are prescription drugs that you can take that are safe for both you and baby! I had heart burn so bad with my first (she sat up really super high pushing my stomach into my mouth practically!!) It was awful and tums did nothing for me. The medicine was amazing and allowed me to sleep and feel so much better. She was perfectly healthy and the heartburn stopped as soon as she was born. Good luck!

The only thing that ever helps my heartburn is GAVISCON!! I really don't care for the taste.. but it seems to do the job. Tums just don't work for me at all.

My doctor wouldnt give me anything! Wish i had some of that Zantac when i was pregnant. It started for me in my second month of pregnancy. Went from just day, to day and night, to all day and night threw till morning again. It was making me burp fire in my throat. Feeling sick. I was crying with by the last 2 months. Couldnt take it anymore, i was drinking water allllllday. and milk. Milk was great but like the tumtums, wore off very quickly.

I took a sports bottle to bed with me every night with water and ice. the colder the better! I would wake up at grab that bottle of ice water like it was my air! Try it.

i just just had a spoon of anti-acid liquid (one that is safe for pregnant people)

the diet didnt help much just taking the anti-acid.

the reason we get it is because a hormone relaxes our mussels and it can sometimes relax a mussel in your stomach opening alowing acid to rise. babies get it alot aswell.

mine didnt get better untill i had my daughter but as soon as i poped her out it was gone :)

I would follow the advice for the diet, cause I have to afford all these foods as well or i have excruciating heart burn.

I would avoid eating so many tums, my sister in law did that when she was pregnant with my niece and it caused her to get a kidney stone while she was pregnant. It was terrible.

Hi samantha,

I am 24 weeks with my second pregnancy and my heartburn is worse this time than the last time. Here are some things that help. Try to sleep on incline if you can, definitely take the tums (they have calcium too). Eat small meals...eat 6 small meals a day. Try not to eat too late. Stay away from caffeine and soda. Drink lots of water! Hang in there!

Oh and propping yourself up on some pillows to sleep at night can help, or raising the head end of your bed - you can put something under the legs of the bed to prop it up a little.

Drink more water and try to eat a really healthy diet. High fat foods are the worst for heartburn. Also, eat small meals but eat more often.

Here are a few tips that I got off of the web for dealing with heartburn:

1) Diet

Avoid heartburn triggers. Keeping a food diary may help you identify problem foods. Foods and drinks that commonly trigger heartburn include:

Citrus fruits

Chocolate

Peppermint

Spearmint

Tomatoes

Raw onions

Garlic

Black pepper

Vinegar

Fatty foods

Spicy foods

Coffee

Citrus juice

Carbonated beverages

Alcoholic beverages

Don’t go to bed after eating.

Eat your last meal at least two to three hours before lying down.

Eat smaller portion sizes.

I totally feel your pain. I had really bad heartburn with my first and it's already started again with my second. It's not just spicy food that can trigger it but other things as well. Try keeping a food diary to keep track of which foods may be causing it. Good luck!
