Navel piercings and pregnancy.

I was wondering if there were any other expecting mama's with navel piercings, and if so, when did you, or do you, plan on taking your belly rings out? I am almost 7 months now and still have my belly ring in but I am not sure how much longer I should keep it in. I am afraid of taking it out too early because I don't want it to close up. For whatever reason, my body heals piercings very quickly when I don't have anything in them (I can't go more than a week without wearing earrings or the holes start closing up, etc.), and I really don't want to have to get it redone if I can help it. So what is the longest I could manage to keep my belly ring in before it will need to be taken out??? How long have any of you gone with it in?

Go to bodycandy.com they have great pregnancy belly rings, and they are priced great to. I plan on getting one soon so I don't have to have my piercing redone later on.

I had vertical piercings top and bottom years ago. My body rejected them so I was left with small scars where they used to be. Since my belly has gotten bigger and the skin has stretched, the scars have too and they look like slightly darker patches of skin. Looks a little strange but I don't mind them. I just wonder how it will look after baby now...

I kept mine in during my entire pregnancy and I said I would only take it out if it hurt or it was uncomfortable. I kept it right up until labour. Took it out and put it right back in. The only thing that happened was a little bit of stretching of the hole where the dumbbell slides in and out more however it is still the same. I'm 30. I had my belly button pieced at 15. Had a baby at 18. I haven't been without my belly ring. Hope this helps.

I have had mine done since I was 14 so about 7 years and just took mine out (I'm 30 weeks in 2 days). I took it out because even though I had a long flexible barbel in (the one I got my tongue pierced with) the band on my maternity pants kept pressing the top ball down into my skin and it was leaving a red dent and making my bellybutton sore and itchy :( I plan on just putting a barbell through it every night and maybe leaving it in while I sleep because I don't wear anything tight to bed. I really hope it doesn't close up!

Check out this website: http://www.maternitypiercings.com/

I ordered one from there and am going to swap it out as soon as it gets here!! I am 29 weeks and my belly button looks like it is going to pop out soon so I want to get it switched as soon as I can! These are flexible and longer so you can leave them in the entire pregnancy if you want. They are priced good too so its worth it! Plus they are supposed to be more comfortable for after you have the baby as well. Good luck!

I just walked into a tattoo/piercing shop and the guy made me up a plastic one that was heaps longer than my steel one. The balls are also plastic. It's also easier to take out when I go for scans. I don't intend on taking it out this whole pregnancy except like I said for scans and then my c-section. It's long enough that I still have room to grow.

hi i am pregnant with my 2nd child and with my daughter i don't think i ever took it out. my doctor said if it did not bother me then it was ok. i do have a tiny stretch mark from it but she is 4 1/2 yrs old now and i can hardly tell that there is a mark there. my belly button never popped so i was fine. i was worried i would have to take it out cuz i did not want it to close up. with this baby its still in. i know now that i will have another c-section so i will take it out before i go to the hospital, but if it does not bother me then i have nothing to worry about.

I am 29 weeks and still have mine in. I don't think you have to take it out at all unless it no longer fits; however, I have found that there are special belly rings for pregnant women that have longer bars that are more flexible, so you may want to look into one of those if your ring starts to get to small. I am also not sure of how it will work if your belly button pops out as mine has not.

I took mine out already. But I put it in for a few hours once a week. I have had it out over a month now and it hasn't closed yet.

i took mine out i think it was at 8 months just because my belly was pushing onto it and you could see the shape of the bar through the skin, i used to put it in for a half an hour daily to make sure it never grew over and brought it to the hospital with me and put it in within hours of giving birth. i am now 19 weeks and ill be doing the same, i love my navel ring and wants to keep it as long as i possibly can :)

Hey well with my first one I had to remove mine my 8 month but this one I had to do it my sixth month, and I called the peircing place I got it from and they told me they would repierce mine for free ( they will do this if you have to take it out for preg.) So I would call around and see because then you wouldn't have to worry bout having to pay to repierce it just incase. though I would suggest not leaving it in too long, it can give you strech marks because your belly skin will try and stretch normal around it but it will stop the normal process. I hope this helps you :))

This is my 3rd pregnacy, i'm only 14 weeks now but with my other 2 i took mine out around 25 weeks, maybe 30, i can't remember. But it was when i felt that my belly was getting too big and stretched.

How long have you had he piercing for? I've had mine for 5 years before i even got pregnant so i just put the piercing in a couple of times a week so the whole won't close and after birth i put it back in without any problems.

my friend had hers peirced and didnt take it out, but she got stretch marks above it and no where else, so i think the belly ring may have caused it, but i have no idea for sure. i took mine out right when i found out i was pregnant, im overly paranoid ha

I would think go as long as you can handle it. No reason to take it out if it never bothers you. I took mine out when I was 18wks with my 1st. It was driving me nuts. That was May 08, but it looks like to me that I could put a ring through it if I liked. But I'm not bothered with it. If your keen to keep it & it's not bothering you then keep it in as long as you like I say..... I am also an Aussie & have seen/heard of the plastic ones, a great solution!

Wow never heard of those before. I live in the US. I did do research online and found a website that sells plastic flexible belly rings for pregnancy. I will probably be ordering one, thanks!!

Hi Danielle,

You should be able to get a special plastic bellyring to wear while your pregnant, my sister got one, I just took mine out and it closed up as, I have the same problem as you. I don't know where you live but I live in Australia, but I am sure you should be able to get a special plastic bellyring for pregnancy, good luck :)

I had mine in until I could see it was about to start stretching the hole. I did keep putting it back in for a few minutes every couple of days/weeks throughout the entire pregnancy. I put mine back in a few hours after I gave birth.
