I am 4 months pregnant and I have a 5 year old as well and with my first pregnancy I drank soda just as much as I did before I was pregnant and my son turned out just fine he was a happy healthy baby and is still a good kid a little hyper and mouthy somedays but he is a boy so I feel he is just normal it is mostly how u feel about it. don't listen to everyone else u know what u can handle and ur dr will let u know if ur sugar is high or what not and if that happens then that is when to stop but until then eat the chocolate and drink the soda all u want well to a certain extent

With summer here i find that no matter how much water I have, it just doesn't quench my thirst. I limit myself to one softdrink a day. I thought that the caffine doesn't harm your baby at the moment but it's when they are born and have caffine withdrawals that you get the upset baby and inturn upset mums. This is my first pregnancy and the only thing I have given up is coffee. Only because i used to have up to 5 cups a day which isn't good for me let alone my bub. I do try to eat a lot more fresh fruit and veg now though.

Hehehehe Im eating chocolate right now! Nom nom nom... My doc said dont put anything in my mouth I wouldnt put in my baby's mouth, but my thoughts were, "So what, do I go drink lots of formula now?" Lol. So I ignored her and read up, and I avoid the really bad stuffs like shellfish and such, but I eat pretty much what I want to. Only have a soda about once a week though, but I was never a big soda drinker.

Quoting kassandra :

I am high risk, gave up caffiene with last baby. I had low amniotic fluid and told doc was avoiding caffiene and he looked at me like I was crazy and told me that I could drink all the pop I wanted. As long as I got my fluids in. Baby was born happy and healthy, Drink pop with this one and she is doing wonderful. Caffiene is not that bad for baby and some docs say that it is no prob, and giving it up during preg will only give you worse headaches.

maybe thats true about the headaches! because i was a big coffee drinker and drank soda as well..and during this pregnancy i try not to have that much caffiene. i still do..but definitely not as much..and boy am i getting a bunch of headaches!

I have read a few different studies that said pregnant women who ate more chocolate had happier babies!

I am 5 months pregnant with my first child and I try to limit my soda intake as well, but my doctor told me that I can safely have 2 44 oz sodas a day without any problem. The concern is not health of the baby it is having a fussy baby with caffeine withdraws.

all i can say is i made the mistake of giving in to my choccie weakness in my first pregnancy this time round i will be smarter i gained a lot of weight as a result and trust me gaining it is a lot easier than losing it , it takes A LOT of hard work to lose pregnancy weight .

:) It does make my baby active too. I try to limit myself to just one soda in the same day and I always get caffeine free. I like to save the caffeine for my weakness... CHOCOLATE! :)
