Waiting till birth to find out the sex?

This will be my second child and yet it's my first time waiting to find out the sex of the baby. Curious to know who else is waiting for the big day. The ultrasound tech put a pic of the gender in a sealed envelope back at 18 weeks and we haven't peeked yet. Now that we are full-term it's not an issue, but I keep having dreams about pink and blue. Also, anyone else wish Baby stores had a decent neutral section. Wondering if it is b/c it's rare for people not to find out the sex?

We are waiting, this baby is also our second child but also our second gender mystery. I'm not sure of the statistics of people not finding out the gender it would be interesting to know...esp to let clothes companies know how many people are waiting so they can make more and better gender neutral clothing.

I waited to find out with my first, and it was both the most exciting, and most frustrating thing ever!
I loved the suspense, but hated having to tell people "I have no idea!" because they would be like "But why...?"
Second time around hubby just HAD to know, he was going nuts! And I dont really feel strongly one way or the other, so I let him have it, its his first blood child (A son btw!) :)
Third time, im going to make it a secret again, so that he can feel that anticipation that I felt with my daughter :)

I am pregnant with baby #2 and decided not to find out with both our children. I cant compare but I think its more exciting, wondering whether or not you are having a boy or girl, and as Lindsay put it, there are so few surprises left in life. When I went into labour with our first, our families all got together and put their 'bets' on a whiteboard- boy/girl, weight, time and date to be born etc. So they had a blast guessing too! Plus not finding out makes it easier with the second baby cos you already have the gender neutral colouor cot sheets, newborn clothes, bouncer etc. Otherwise if you find out you are having a girl and buy everything pink, and then find out your having a boy next, well then you have got all this pink clothes and equipment that you probably wouldnt want to use! Also, when our son finally came out, we were so in awe we actually forgot to look- our midwife had to remind us! lol And you are definetly right- there is a shortage of neutral section out there! There is usually rows and rows of pink stuff, blue stuff and very few neutrals! Even bouncers etc are pink, blue or green. Needless to say we own alot of green items! A set of green sheets, change table, bouncer and walker! Wish they made some more yellow items!

I was always afraid the journey would loose its luster if I knew the ending...so to speak. So we haven't found out with either.

I LOVE the surprise. It is fun to have people talk about the sex of your baby and then say why. I also love to talk about it with my husband and put our guess in. He keeps going back and forth. My boys both tell me that it is a baby sister so here is to hoping they are right.

It also gives me that little extra to push so I can find out who my little one is after all that waiting and guessing.

I didn't wait to find out. I have a boy and a girl and I just wanted to know what box to get out. lol. We also really wanted to know with this one because our 4 year old daughter SWORE it was a girl. We took her with us to see the ultrasound and sure enough, she was right. She was SO happy.

Gender neutral clothes are really hard to find. My sister isn't finding out and I was trying to look for stuff for her...not much out there. :(

We waited to find out the sex with our first child - our son, even now (17 months later) when talking about my birth I refer to him as the baby because I didn't know the sex and so that's how I remember it lol. I loved being the first to know that my baby was a boy (the sonographer couldn't see my hubby asked even though we didn't want to know, and the midwife probably did see before me but I like to think not :-) ). It made it really really special.

This time we decided to wait again because it was so great, I think it's a shame people don't have the patience to wait anymore 9 months is such a short time really.

I have found there is plenty of gender neutral clothes, maybe that's just in the UK though - a lot of newborn things are done in white and cream - which is a colour I love on babies so clean and gorgeous.

I think it is because whether you're having a girl or a boy, it's going to be pink, or blue. =] Even the yellow and green are tricky because everyone will assume it's a boy unless they are in pink or purple.

I'm pregnant with #3 and for the third time we are waiting. It seems to drive everyone else crazy, but, as my husband puts it, there are so few real surprises left in life. I think most people these days do find out the sex. Everyone who I tell that I'm waiting says they just couldn't do it, but I love wondering who this person will be. I agree about the gender neutral selection. Luckily, I have 2 boys, so the second one never had to wear yellow, which I hate. If this one is a girl, she will probably be in blue for awhile. Good for you for waiting!

i think its %50 of people find out the sex and 50% dont. I didnt find out the sex and it was the best thing ever! I mean i was soo curious but it was so much fun guessing and i loved experiencing that moment of "ITS A GIRL" after the baby was born it was so exciting. as for nuetral clothes you dont need alot just like 0-3 size close and you can have fun shopping after baby is born for pink or blue clothes and im sure u will get lots of clothes as gifts
