what are the chances of a 38 week old fetus to survive if the placenta stopped developing at 35 weeks and what causes this

If the baby is still alive chances are quite good he/she will survive. As a placenta develops during a pregnancy it also ages, there are serveral things that could cause a placenta to age quickly including smoking, drug use, or simply lack of nutrition, sometimes this can happen without real cause.



If the DR's have determined the placenta is not working properly - the baby should be delievered as they stand a better chance outside the womb.
