Who agrees that subsequent pregnancies go into labour earlier than the first.

That hasn't been true in my experience or my SIL's. I had my first child at 36 weeks 4 days and my second at 38 weeks 4 days. My SIL had her first at 36 weeks 4 days, her second at 38 weeks, and her third at 42 weeks 1 day. So the length of our pregnancies has increased each time. However, the length of our labors has shortened each time.

I was 11 days over with my first, 4 days over with my second and my doctor said to me that i probably won't go over this time and if so probably only by a day or two.

In a way yes it could be true. Im pregnant now with my 4th and the first 2 which was boys i ended up being induced. but my little girl was born nov 2011 was a week early and my water broke on its own at like 3:30 in the morning. my doc says i went early with her because my body had done been through it 2 times already n i carried her very low. and the whole thing about carrying high or low is a boy or girl that is not true the more babies you have the lower you will carry them. Im 5 months pregnant now and im already carrying this baby low and its a boy. hope that i helped some of you.

my first was overdue by 1 week six days he came out the morning i was supposed to go in to be induced this is my second pregnancy im due today and have an appointment for monday week to be induced but i had heard that sometimes second babies didnt make it to their due date and also are generally bigger than first babies because there is more room although i was my mothers second child and i was overdue too

I was 5 days late for my second child, but on time for my first. Every baby and pregnancy is different. You never know what you're going to get!

I don't necessarily think it's true. My first was 8 days late, second 16 days late, third 10 days late (broke waters to induce labour because we didn't want to keep waiting), fourth a day early (again broke waters to induce labour) and with this one I am due in a week and still not really expecting to go into labour at any moment. I have found that the labours and pushing gets faster each time though. My last one only took 2 big pushes and quite literally just popped out after 1 hour and 20 minutes of labour.

I think there are many varying factors . My first was 3 weeks early , second 4 1/2 weeks early , 3rd was overdue, 4th induced 4 weeks early , 5th was born on my first due date [ few days off from due date via ultrasound] ,

I was 3 wks late with my first and third chid\ld but 2 weeks early with my second also my longest labor was my first 3 hours, It depends on your body. Good luck

i was 5 days early w/both of my girls. the pains were the only thing that was different. i had back labor (UGH!) w/our 1st and more just constant pain at the groin area w/our 2nd. i was in labor for about the same amount of time.

I don't know what's common, but I know in my case I had my first child April 30th 2009 and then my son was born April 27th 2010. Both had to be induced because they were overdue. Maybe it's a possibility, but definitely not a guarantee.

It's definitely a coin toss. I was 8 and 10 days late (induced both times) with my prior 2 pregnancies. This time, I refuse to be induced, so I'll take all the steps needed to go into labor naturally.

all women and pregnanceys are different, my first was 5 days over due, Baby number 2 I have been told for over 6wks had dropped and would come early. But we were given 2 edd one was the 14th of July and the other from scan sizes the 17th of July well bubs is still there atm and doesn't seem to be leaving any time soon. : )

I think it could go either way, but my experience is that I went at 39wks with #1, and 38wks with #2. It will be interesting to see what happens with #3!

In actuality, during my second pregnancy, I've had issues from the beginning. I had a miscarriage in the beginning, in which consisted of more than three embryos. At first I thought I was not pregnant anymore, until 6 moths later. I got a surprise, one of the embryos survived, and was happily kicking. Well thanks to the miscarriage, it caused me to be high risk, I ended up having preterm labor when I was about 7 1/2 months, they ended up giving me some steroids to stabilize the labor and stop it, then the following month Jonathan was born, he was actually 3 wks early. So in reality it actually depends more on the child. You can not control when the child wants to pop out. (when it is tired of being inside)

its commom for you to go faster with the second baby.. however that's not always the case. once your cervix dilates and effaces once.. it never goes back the way it used to be.. so typically after the first baby you will progress faster.. but some people dont.. it just depends on your body..

I agree with the others. My mom was 2 weeks late with both my sister and I, however the labor with my older sister was longer then it was with me.

My sister has gone past her due date with all her pregnancies. The only thing i know to happen sooner/faster with each pregnancy is the labor goes faster and the baby comes out quicker... typically, anyway.

The truth is that your body knew what to do with the first one too ... it's designed for this! lol ... as for going early ... I was in pre-term labor with my first at 24 wks but they shut it down and I delivered him three days past my due date. With my second I went into pre-term labor at 33 wks (almost 34) but my water broke so I delivered her at that time as well. With this one, I have a cerclage to help protect against pre-term labor as my cervix was the culprit in the prior pregnancies so we'll see when it all starts.

On another note, my friend was due on the 9th with her third and is still pregnant ... lol ... but she's gone at least a week past her due date with all of her pregnancies.

When my mother was pregnant with me... she went a month early... when she was pregnant with my younger brother she went past her due date!
