I think this cooperative game http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D7F... is the perfect choice for lots of fun on a family game night.
Also, we have recently been having so many laughs playing Just Dance on the Wii http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MWS...
Honestly...it is easy to play, gets everyone some exercise and its addictive fun. Pretty much any age can play too!

we used to do that when we were kids. every friday night was family game night weather we wanted to or not. usually we always did tho. we all sat and played games for awhile. we fully plan on that with our daughter now well when she gets old enough. but we dont even have gaming systems anymore really. my husband has his he plays when hes bored but other than that we sold the rest. kids today play too many games and dont know the difference between reality and video games

For the game-playing family with older kids: we LOVE Settlers of Catan. Don't let the apparent complexity throw you off - it's simple once you start playing it, and even our non-game-playing chilid and adult plays with the two of us that are avid board game players! Another favorite: Dominion, which is a card/deck building game.

my kids are a bit young for most of them, but they do have a memory face game that they both love playing, and since my daughter is now reading, i am thinking of introducing her to scrabble.

Phase 10 is a fun card game. Apples to Apples is really fun. Some other fun ones are Yahtzee, Chicken Foot (a dominoes game), and Scrabble.

My 2 1/2 year old loves Cranium Cariboo. You can play 2 ways- for younger and older kids. I can't wait to introduce him to all the games I grew up playing: hi ho cherrie-o, clue, don't break the ice, life, monopoly, chutes and ladders, candyland, checkers, the list goes on! Our favorites are Apples to Apples, always gets us laughing. The card game Bug your Neighbor, fun to play with a large group and Yahtzee which was a favorite of my mom and siblings when we were young.

Puppy-opoly is my eight year old daughter's favorite! It really is fun. You have to do "tricks" to earn treats. (Beg, balance a treat on your nose, roll over and let everyone pet your tummy...) Otherwise it's similar to monopoly. :)

Arianne J. I think that is brilliant! I remember always buying my daughter word games, puzzles and anything educational along with the typical kids games and have basically been doing the same for grandchildren. We love board games, but we created a game that is fun for everyone. We pick u newspapers, or look on the internet for interesting articles from "news sources." My oldest loves the crazy stories from the tabloids. Then we all share what we found, it is amazing what people consider news worthy, and whoever has the craziest story wins... It's also a great way to learn about what is going on in the world, and get them involved and active in our community.
Not appropriate for the younger ones, but even my eight year old loves this game and I love the closeness that the sharing time gives us.

I used to play chess with my daughter when she was three, and now my mother plays chess with my 5yr old granddaughter. We usually play cards and various board games like yahtzee, monopoly, pictionary jr, uno, 200 (it's like wist). Of course, we also play online games such as webkinz, pet pet park/neopets, disney online, little einsteins, super why, fisherprice and other online childrens game sites.

We played a new game at Thanksgiving and everyone loved it including the kids (ages 11,12 & 13). It's called Telestrations and it was hilarious. We also enjoy all kinds of Trivia games and Apples to Apples as well as a couple of educational games we play together; Rat-a-Tat-Cat, Quiddler, and Phase 10.

We like Uno, Pictureka, Chinese Checkers, various card games, and Mastermind. The kids (almost 13 and 9), also like to play games together and have me just watch too and add silly comments. They say it makes it more fun. =)

Friday night is dinner and game night with the grandparents. Sorry Sliders and Uno Flash are the current favorites. Scrabble, Rummy-O/Rummikub, Gin Rummy, Clue, Bingo and Monopoly are fun, too. (BTW, my son is 9)

Great post!!! We love Wii bowling and tennis, and have made them a weekly event. My 10 year old daughterand my husband's friend have an ongoing rivalry. :-)

We also love Phase 10 (a card game), Candy Land, Chutes and Ladders, and Disney Bingo. My three oldest kids (10, 3, and 3) love to play games. We too have the Family Game Night for Wii and love Yahtzee and Connect Four. I'm hoping to introduce Operation soon. Another new family fav is Pictionary...even the twins play and love it!

We like board games. We love to play Sequence and we also play alot of card games...hand and foot, skipbo and we also like to play Farkle with dice. And of course we love bowling and monopoly on the Wii.

My boys LOVE games. We have even started a game night with a group of friends (we bring the only children). But the boys LOVE games (4 and 2)...we play many round of Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Uno Attack (my 4 year old loves the MEAN cards). They also play all of the games at game night (some adapted, but still fun). They also have the Cat in the Hat games, which are great. Operation is a new hit in my family. Games are great fun! We, too, have a Wii...the boys love Diego game and we got them a racing game with a wheel. We also got my 4 year old the Toy Story Mania game. They don't play the Wii that often, but will play board games/card games every night if we let them!

l agree Sherry, bring board games back. My kids (ages 3, 6 & 9) all have Nintendo DS's and are addicted to them (not to mention our Wii and PS3). We have many board games too...trying to introduce them to the kids more. We did get a new game called Blokus that is a lot of fun (even for our 3 yo). We also love Sorry, Connect 4, Jenga and many more. Spending time as a family is most important. Thank you for the post.

We used to have A Family/Game night at least 3-4x a week-- I just recently put cable and internet service back in my house after doin with-out for over two and a half years and don't know if I regret it yet or not!. We love board games and Puzzles-- My kids do puzzles like they are going out of style!!!! I aprreciate the time we spend together as well as the conversation that we have as a family-- What are my favorite games---UNO, Monopoly, Dominos, Jenga and Sorry! They are all great!

We have a ton of board games and we play them very often. My girls love chess and my oldest has taken lessons and competes. They will both be on the summer chess team among other things. We play kids clue, monopoly and many others. We also have a wii and enjoy bowling as a whole family. My little one loves the tennis on there. We love the Disney Scene it games and Disney trivia!! There are many more great ones to pick from. My husband and I play board games without the girls too. A glass of wine and a platter plus a board game can be wonderful fun!
