We put the crib mattress on the floor at the foot of our bed surrounded by pillows. Our 9 mo old daughter goes to sleep there pretty well (since it's still in the same room) and then we move her to the big bed when we go to sleep. She sometimes wakes herself up when she sits up or rolls off, but we don't have to worry that she's going to fall far enough to hurt herself.

We moved from bed to mattress. Our son is 1,2 years old and crawls a lot in his sleep, even stands up and walks. Sometimes its just easiest to be on the ground level! When he was 6 mths old, he was napping alone in our bed, protected by lots of pillows, and...when I came to the room, he was on the floor. Fortunately not hurt, but could have been...that was such a scare! Since then, no beds for us :)

well i used to put two or three pillows around them with my oldest child. With my youngest we have a cot, so i put him in the cot when he sleeps, and then when i go to sleep then i transfer him to my bed..

When my son was a newborn, I went to bed with him every night. He just wouldn't sleep without me there. Now that he's a little older and going to sleep before me, he gets put down in his crib. When he wakes up, whether it's 12:30, 5:00, or 8:00, he comes into our bed either for the rest of the night or for some wake-up snuggles. In this way, he gets to be close to us when he wants, but everyone gets a good night of sleep now and then as well. I find that he tends to wake up more often when I'm next to him because his favorite pacifier is so readily available.

Well...we have had to start using a small pack n' play for naps and early bedtime because even though we have bed rails he still found a way off. He crawled off of the end of the bed. He was okay, just scared and I freaked out of course. He just woke up and went exploring without making any noise and went right off the end. :( So now I lay down with him to get him to sleep, then move himt he pack n' play.
