Anyone else taken thier children/child to Cancun?

I took my son and daughter to Cancun, Mexico. There are many great family resorts there with huge water parks in the resorts. You can go to Xhel Ha and swim with the dolphins, float down the lazy river or jump of a cliff into the ocean. If your kids are older there are the Mayan Ruins, they are fanastic. There is also a park called Xcarate. They have a great dinner show. You have to check out the rainforest cafe as it is our favourite place to go. To eat if you have not gone all inclusive there is VIPS kindof like Smittys or Dennys. they even have a play area for the kids in the resturant and Chilies too. Mexico is the country for children. All the locals love children, tehy want to make sure the children are having fun and usually go out of their way to ensure this. I love it so much I am taking both my children back in June this will be my sons 4th time and my daughter 2nd time. Son 8 years daughter 1.5 years.

I am taking my children now 10 years and 2 years back to Cancun this July. I am so excitied. The beach back. The Mexican govermnemt restored the beach so its huge now. I am so excitied to return to my paradise with my two angels.

i have taken mine too when they were 2 and 4 and it was great! cancun not like really leaving the states to me anyway!

I just returned from Cancun and a small village 3 hrs north east of Cancun. The kids had a blast. In Cancun we stayed at Club Med. Awesome Kids club for the older one. He was gone from 9am till 9pm a break between 530 to 7pm. They eat together, play together, dance together. IT was fanastic. My younger one 22 months loved the pool and the ocean. I took my own car seat as we went on a road trip and I knew in advance we would be going on a road trip. Make sure to take sunscreen if you go as it was hot very hot in June.

just wanted to post a new reply. i am in fact in the Cancun area as we chat, with my husband, 13 yr old son and my in laws. having a great tme. we're off on a pirate cruise tomorrow night. yeah !

I am taking my children back to Cancun in June or July. Right into the heart of the drug war. I know we will be fine as we are not in to the drugs, and no one is out to get us. There are more viloence in places like Toronto than Cancun and people still go there. People are just over reacting to incorrect news or news that is not telling the whole story.

FYI the beaches in Cancun really suck right now. They are working on them but they are really bad at the current moment. But if you stay away from the drugs and use common sense you will be just fine in the state of Q. Roo. That includes, Puerto Moreles, Playa del Carmen and Cancun. Happy travels

I saw the story. .Don't worry. Most of the violence seems to be centred near the northern border with the states. It involves the drug traffic trade. The mayan riviera is very safe. Check out the tripadvisor.com website and go the forum page. There have been lots of questions about safety and absolutely no worries from travellors.

We've booked a trip and leave for Puerto Morellos ( just S of Cancun ) on April 5th. Looking forward to it. The only thing I wouldn't advise at any time, is renting a vehicle. But transportation by bus or taxi is so easy, safe and economical, there is no problem getting around. Of course, I wouldn't go to some residential areas at night or buy drugs. But then, I wouldn't do that here either.

I almost booked a trip to Mayan Riviera .. but after hearing about all the volence and drug wars going on down there now.. we decided to book elsewhere.. we have always loved Mexico - but don't want to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.. big news on CNN & Dateline warning Spring Breakers from going anywhere in Mexico right now.

The mayan riviera is fabulous for family vacations. The main town, Playa del Carmen is great to wander about. There's ofter strolling musicians in the evenings.

We have been several times to the area. We've stayed at the Sandos Playacaar ( used to be Gala). They've added a huge area, separate hotel to the back of the property.

The front pool is filled with kids. We actually liked going to the back pools in the afternoons. Great pool bar and our son could order any number of fancy drinks. I think he liked the strawberry daiquris the best ! Its' only a 5 min. cab ride into town too.

Lots of activities including bird sanctuary right in Playacaar. We 've taken a day trip to Coba and hired a gentlemen with a taxi bike to ride the kids around the grounds.

That trip also included a visit to a modern day Mayan village. Fascinating to see how the family lived. We also toured a spider monkey sanctuary.

The beach near Playa del Carmen has suffered from several direct hits from hurricanes.

They're working on it and trying to protect what's left. But, my son loved playing on the so called sand whales in the water.

Another great day trip is taking the ferry to Cozumel....

To Jenn - what resort did you stay at last year ?

We took our 3 kids (12,8 & 6) to the Mayan Riviera last year. We loved Mexico, but wouldn't stay at that particular resort again. It was just too modern for us, but it does sleep 6 to a room which is great for larger families. Will definetly go back to Mexico....anyone know of other resorts that will take 5 in a room? We've also been to Punta Cana several times (Ocean Sand) which sleeps 5 to a room. We love the Dominican as well.
