We have 3 children under the age of 6 and am wondering what are your favorite places in the state of Wisconsin to travel to. I am an Editor for the www.USFamilyGuide.com and work in the Wisconsin area. Would love to get ideas on where you like to travel with kids and why and if they are reasonably priced.

Thanks,

Cathy

Well I don't know if you are still looking for something but I live in Wisconsin too and have been to a few places. There's always the typical, Wisconsin Dells. When my two oldest children were 4 and 21/2 and I was pregnant with #3 we went to the Polynesian Hotel. It's geared to smaller children, doesn't have the huge indoor waterpark that smaller children would get lost in. The pools were shallow and you could quickly get from one end of the pool area to the other, even while pregnant. Price was reasonable for a winter getaway. If you like fishing, swimming, boating, in the summer there's no end to the lodges available on the multitude of lakes and chains of lakes up north. My favorite little up north towns are Minocqua and Boulder Junction, there's plenty of places to stay up there. Hayward has the Lumberjack competition in July I believe, that offers something different. Last time we were there was a while ago and I think we just stayed at the Best Western, nice and reasonable. Green Bay is also an easy place to find inexpensive lodging and they have the railroad museum and Bay Beach which is a little amusement park, great for small kids. They have eight or ten typical "fair" rides, along with a park right on the bay. It's very reasonably priced and you can easily spend the day there. You can just go northeast from there for about an hours drive depending on where you want to go and spend the day in Door County but not have to pay the prices to stay in Door County if you don't want to, or just pay for one overnight in the Door. My kids are a little older so I'm planning on doing the "House on the Rock" and "Cave of the Mounds" this summer. We live close enough that we can make it a day trip. I know there is a dairy farm that you can stay at and have the dairy farm experience but I can't find my info. on that and don't have time to google it but I'm sure it would be easy to find. I like to do day trips and where we live it's easy to do. There's a strawberry festival in Cedarburg, and tall ship days in Port Washington and Racine. Milwaukee has a festival every weekend in the summer, plus there's other things to do in town not to mention just hanging out on the waterfront. Lots to do in our short summer and plenty of places to stay, it just depend on what you're interested in.
