I have had ADHD most of my life. I was put on Ritalin when I was in elementary school, but my mom saw that it wasn't really helping. She figured out that limiting the carbonated sodas with sugar and/or caffeine helped a lot with how I behaved. She also had my school give me more mentally challenging work and that was the biggest help of all. I was just bored cause I was advanced. I am an EXTREME multitasker. I can do 7 to 8 things at a time depending on the day. ADHD can be hard to manage, but limiting really sugary foods and trying to find more challenging mental things to do helped me. I hope I've helped.

Some kids are just extremely active. My son is on the go constantly. I understand the desperation of "Oh my God I just need 5 minutes of quiet!" and to top it off I'm an early childhood development educator! :o) But the fact of the matter is that if you're child is able to stop and focus on anything for any length of time (at 2-3 years old a special toy for 20 minutes, coloring for 15, etc) it's unlikely that they have ADHD. Also, a child cannot accurately be tested for attention deficit until they are at least 5 years old. What I found with Keegan was that he needed things that were more stimulating. Not just getting him out of the house for physical exercise, but also getting him to museums that are kid friendly (we're in LA so we go to Kidspace in Pasadena, Pretend City in Irvine, even the Page Museum at the Tar Pits. He LOVES dinosaurs and the Columbian Mastedon skeleton there fascinates him!) Anything that allows him to be hands on really. The days when he has no school and we DON'T do something like that... are rough. Especially since it's just him and I a good majority of the week since his dad works 60 plus hours a week right now. Hang in there! Just remember to stay patient and talk him through things as much as possible and make sure he's making eye contact with you while you're chatting.

My son has ADHD and Autism. Yes, he was on the go all the time and difficult for him to stay still and focused but because of his autism it complicates things. I wouldn't jump to conclusions so early. Depending on his age he might just have a lot of energy which is normal for any little kid. I would bring it up with your family physician or pediatrician and ask questions relating to what he does and have him/her examine the child to rule out anything major. My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5. As my mother told me, "It doesn't hurt to just ask the doctor and voice your concerns."

How did you get an ADHD diagnosis so early? I was told they wouldn't do an EEG (or is it EKG?) until my son was older to help determine if he was ADHD. My son is really active too and I've been thinking he was probably ADHD since his birth. He's been bouncing off the walls since he was inside of me, and literally does not stop moving. It's frustrating to take him in public because he gets overly stimulated in a matter of minutes and just can't cope. I have three family members with ADHD so I know genetically he's prone to it, but his doctor will not even discuss it until later. At this point, he's just considered "spirited." I did find the book, "Raising the Spirited Child" very very helpful though if you are looking for more advice.

My son is very hyper they thought ADD as he doesnt have anger issues. I was advised not to give him any lollies, coke etc check preservatives. Mind you he runs around the house messing it all up and doesnt sleep much and thats on milk. i deal with it by trying to keep him busy take him swimming, park, joined him in clubs. Later i was thinking karate like Natalies mum. Activities that are energetic to help him get it out. Im hoping he will calm down by year 1.

My children do not have ADHD, but my brother has it. When he was lil he was so hyper and even disrespectful at times. When my mom put us in Karate it helped him so much. He did better in school and his attitude was better he did not have to be put on any medications. I just hope this helps. I know what works for one child may not work for another.

Well, my children do not have that. But my brother did and he was so hyper and even disrespectful sometimes. When my mom put us in Karate it helped so much. He did better in school and at home. It seemed to calm him down and he did not have to take any medication. I know all children are different and what works for one may not work for another. I just hope this helps.
