My son (32 months old) no longer gets anything but a regular cups. At night before he falls asleep he will ask for a drink of water. He's been off nightly nursings for about a year now (my son rarely got a bottle)... My daughter (4 years old) had sippy cups until she was 3 (mostly so my son wouldn't spill her's) and I would let her take the cup to bed with her. My daughter was also a binky baby so the cup was kind of a trade off. My son never really wanted anything to do with a binky...

Quoting Christy:

really i hate to say but it is not ok.. it can rot their teeth and give them further problems. my pediatrition always told me not to, but if it was absolutely necessay give them water in a bottle, unless you want to brush their teeth everytime they drink anything other than water.   also wanted to say that the other moms were very right...my son needs a snack to fill him up before bed.  anything light and healthy and is easy to digest.  best wishes.  stay strong.  we moms know how hard that can be sometimes.

My daughter is going to be 3 in feb and she still takes a bottle at night. But there doesnt have to be nything in it. It is mainly for sercrite. But thats all she has ever had. No thumb or blanket or anything like that.

I give my kids a small snack (crackers or a slice of cheese) and a sip of milk while I'm reading their bedtime story. That seems to help plus they aren't taking anything to bed. I special toy is a good idea instead of a bottle. Good luck

Wow my daughter was off the bottle at 11 mos and drinking out of a regular cup at 18 mos. she gets water if anything before bed but never goes to bed w/a drink. the bottle at 2 1/2 is sooo bad for them.

If you are talking about an infant, you can supplement the bottle with cereal. That will help the baby feel more full. If you are talking about a toddler, you can give them a water sippy cup to take to bed. You could also give them a snack before bed to help them feel more full during the night. No matter what, I'd say don't do milk during the night.

If you give drink at night it will rot his baby teeth (milk sugars). My brother did that with his son and it rotted the front teeth and they actual cracked. He looked like a vampire (LOL) until the new teeth grew in. But three time a night, he is probably still hunger, does he eat a good dinner to hold him all night?

my 2 1/2 year old still wakes up and wants a bottle to go back to sleep. Goes in cycles, he used to sleep through the night just woke to play a little then fell back, now we are back on the bottle comfort at night....totally normal to me, my oldest two did that as well, by the time they are 3 it ends unless there is a nightmare

We stopped giving bottles when Michael turned one. He gets his last sippy at dinner time (around 6:30), and goes until 7:00 the next morning. What takes almost 3 times in a night? I didn't understand all of your post.
