I found this book and it was a God send! I trained my son in three days. It is a very gentle, loving method and I LOVE it! www.3daypottytraining.com

Potty training is different for every child. As a pediatric nurse, I can tell you what I do.
1.) Pull-up's are a safety net. They will go on themselves because they know they can
2.) Put a covered bowl of skittles or m&m's near by. everytime they go on the pot, treat them.
3.) Go with them, but dont make it a punishment. This age group rebels.
4.) Make it easy. If it's a girl, let her walk around in a dress and panties. Something easy to get down. Anticipate their needs. My 2 yr old doesnt like the potty, she does the big girl toliet.
GOOD LUCK!

The Elmo potty time dvd did the trick for us. I bought him underwear and put those on him all day. I put his potty in the room where he played and just kept my eye on him all the time. I DON'T use pull-ups. Those are just like a diaper. I started training him 2 weeks ago and now he goes everywhere in his underwear. He was so easy!

I haven't pushed the issue, if he tells me no, then I wait five minutes or telling him I have to go.

I started potty training my son at 15 mo, sat him on the toilet with his clothes on so he got the idea. At 18 mo sat him on the toilet with his diaper off and everytime I or my dh went we took him with us and sat him down. One day he "accidentally" went to the restroom on his potty and we made a huge deal. After that he would tell us when he needed to go. NOT consistantly. I am using potty training pants that are cloth on the inside and plastic on the outside, and I am going to buy real underwear so he can tell when he poops. The funny part of all this is I have been potty training kids for 20 years and now it come to my own and having difficuly, how ironic.

I have 4 boys and the 2 older ones were trained at 18 mths...Everyone wanted to know what my trick was. Then my February 2007 baby came along and when he reached 18mths i wasnt ready so i waited til he turned 2. I did the same as i did with the others but he didnt really show any interest. I thought maybe he wasnt ready....but i didnt give up. We went to Wal Mart bought him some Elmo undies and i got very consistent. I NEVER us pull ups. I let him run around in his undies and kept a close eye on him. I would catch him in the act of tee-teeing and run him to the potty. I did this consistently for about 3 days and Voila! he was trained. This is the same method i have used with all my boys and for all the daycare kids that i have kept! I think consistentcy is key! And u might wanna stay around the house for about a week....it helps with accidents bc it can be very messy! Hope i was helpful!

I just let my son run around naked but since the birth of my second son he has taken a little break from using it, the last couple of days i have taken his nappy of and told him he needs to show his little brother to be a big boy.

My daughter loved "Elmo's Potty Time" the movie. It got her thinking about it and she got to see other kids doing it. The little songs would get stuck in our heads so we'd end up thinking about it so we didn't forget. She is potty trained now, but still has accidents once in a while, she sometimes starts to feel bad but we sing the "accidents happen" song and then she doesn't feel bad (from Elmo's potty time). Also, I think it really helped that we got a little portable potty and set it in the main area where she played and could explore it on her own, while also giving her the option of the kids potty seat you put on the big potty. If she went on the potty she got a sticker too, as a reward, when that was no longer a novelty and she didn't want to go at all I didn't push her but ended up offering tootsie rolls for "putting her pee pee in the potty". At one point she stopped using the potty at all. Then, when her diaper hurt one night I told her she wouldn't have to wear it if she promised to put her pee pee in the potty, she did and was done with diapers in a week. So don't get discouraged if he takes a break from the potty!

I am going down the same road! I have a four year old daughter as well and when I potty trained her, it was much easier, I just put her in big girl pants and put the potty out in plain sightand she picked it up very quickly. Now with my second daughter I am trying this same method and so far no luck....she likes the big girl pants and the potty. She just doesnt seem to like to use the potty yet!
